Work Text:
It just happened. Yuji had not been thinking clearly. He had been over taken by his emotions, waning off adrenaline and the smells that clouded his nostrils at that time. He wants to blame Megumi and maybe he does. But he more so hates himself for what happened.
And he did not want to talk about it.
No matter how much Nobara try to pry it out of him. As expected, she is resilient. Testing Yuji with pokes to his cheeks and forehead, slapping his shoulders or even going as far as to pump out her scent to agitate him to get his attention.
No, Yuji's willpower and shock over the earlier... situation had won over. He practically mimicked a stone, wrapped in one of his thicker blankets and occupying a spot on one of the couches within the lounge room. He had escaped from Megumi, took a shower, changed into some comfortable clothes and came here. He didn't want Megumi to trap him in his room in case he wanted to enact some revenge for what Yuji had done. He would rather be caught in an open space with somebody else as a witness.
Well, Megumi wasn't petty like that! Yuji is just overthinking. And he wasn't scared of Megumi either!
Just... stunned.
Did he really do that? To Megumi?!
"Seriously, what is going on with you? Did something happen on that mission between you and Fushiguro? Are you okay? Talk to me, Itadori!" Nobara slumps onto him, wrapping her arms around him and letting out a whine. "Please, I won't judge you. Are you okay? Talk to me."
Yuji huffs through his nose and whines back at her. Closing his eyes and nuzzling into her embrace. He knew she had at first let out her scent to irritate him, but her scent was more comforting. Apples and cinnamon.
He could go for a pie right now. Maybe he'll just go bake one to relief his stress.
"... I... I did something... bad..."
She pats his head and nuzzles him. "How bad?"
"... Well... I just... I am sure Fushiguro may be mad."
"Did you mean to do it?"
He whines again and shakes his head just slightly. "No. I wasn't thinking, I really wasn't."
"I think Fushiguro may understand. I'll be at your side though, if you need me." She pumps out her scent some more and it does eases his nerves. "Omega solidarity! Do you need anything?"
"Just stay with me here?" Yuji opens his blanket and without question, Nobara joins him. They press to each other's sides, Yuji resting his head on Nobara's shoulder. Together with the blanket wrapped around them, only their faces stuck out.
For a time, it was only them in the room. Neither had a problem with it, finding some times as best friends and fellow omegas they needed that alone time together. Especially, after all that had happened in the past year.
Nearly losing Nobara had took a toll on Yuji for some weeks. She had become the closest omega he knew as well as his best friend. Even their teacher, Suguru Geto, an older Omega could not have been there for Yuji or even for his own daughters after Shibuya.
As just like his partner, Satoru Gojo, had been incapacitated. Subjected to something much worse.
Some time during last late September, the teacher had gone missing and the next time he had been seen? His body had been stolen and puppeteered by a curse user of the name Kenjaku. Seeing the state of what became of his partner had sent Satoru into distress that led to his temporary lock up in the Prison Realm that last Halloween night in Shibuya.
After that, it seemed to have gone downhill from there.
Kento Nanami and Yu Haibara had been killed by Mahito, the former having had suffer major injuries after his encounters with Dagon and Jogo, two associates of Mahito's, beforehand. They almost lost Kiyotaka Ijichi, that night, too. He and Nobara would have been added to the list of casualties.
Yuji recalls finally returning to the school and asking to see her, but was denied by Shoko who knew seeing Nobara in her lifeless state would have sent him into more stress.
Had it not been for Megumi, Yuji was sure he would have acted out.
Megumi...
He wonders if the alpha is really mad at him right now.
"There you are! I had been looking for you!"
Both Yuji and Nobara had snapped out of their trance to see someone else joining them in the lounge area. Hana Kurusu, an alpha, had been the one to call out as she entered the room. She had been one of the many awakened sorcerers by Kenjaku's doing. The vessel of a sorcerer from the past named Angel.
Yuji shuffles next to Nobara, pushing his nose closer to her exposed neck.
When he first met Hana, he had gotten along well with her and still does. But he couldn't help but feel a bit wary of her, too. It took time to realize why and it was an ugly truth. He didn't like the thought of anyone else being in the spot that Nobara should have been in at the time. He wanted to distance himself from Hana, but he knew they needed her to free Satoru. Megumi had talked to him about it and Yuji sucked it up, keeping himself in check whenever he felt some kind of resentment towards Hana. It got better between them, the best acquaintances could have, but not enough for their relationship to be labeled as friends. Angel squandered a chance at that.
After everything had been done to defeat Kenjaku and Sukuna, one day, Angel had took out her frustration on Yuji. Blaming him for what happened to Hana. Yuji had believed it to be true. If he had only seen Sukuna's trickery coming he could have prevented Megumi from being possessed by him and Hana losing an arm. He believed Angel when she called him weak.
Yuji had since then tiptoed around Hana and Angel, barely having a conversation with either of them for weeks. Before he knew it, Hana had cornered him one day to apologize on Angel's behalf.
It was the start of something mending, but not completely fixed. Especially since, other than Angel's disdain for Yuji, Hana had obvious feelings for Megumi. Yuji knew she felt something for Megumi, just isn't sure what it was. While others would mark them as just "harmless romantic feelings" and think nothing else, Yuji felt intrigued. He feels bad about it, but he did want to talk more to her, to see why she admires Megumi just as much as he did. Yet, there was the looming threat of turmoil bound to be born and how ridiculous he felt. It would be invasive, wouldn't it? Silly? Ask a potential "love rival" about how she felt about someone he loves, too, and form some companionship?
Maybe it was just Yuji's deep need to form bonds to soothe his omega. To sedate that loneliness. He isn't so sure. Never really been so sure about much.
For now, he supposed fixing his fairly new acquaintance with the female alpha standing close by will just have to wait.
"Looking for who?" Nobara questions.
"Itadori! Just wanted to ask about earlier." Hana answers, taking to standing in front of the pair. She crosses her arms and narrows her eyes, yet there was still that usual softness in her gaze. "What happened between you and Megumi? Was that a fight? I saw that---"
Yuji shakes his head and throws up his hands at her. "No! I don't want to talk about that!"
Hana drops her arms. "Oh. I'm sorry, I was just concerned for the both of you."
He relaxes back. "Sorry about yelling. I just... It's embarrassing. I was just frustrated with him and all. I didn't mean to... do that."
"Fushiguro can be a little hard to deal with, sometimes." Nobara mumbles, holding Yuji's hand. "But you saw what happened between them?"
Hana nods. "I did. I didn't know Itadori could be—"
A burst of mint hit their noses, going in deep and making the trio a little light-headed. A hint of ginger followed and then smoke.
Yuji swallows, knowing who the mixture of scents were coming from. And he knew that the alpha is distressed.
"Yuji..."
From the corner, emerges Megumi from the shadows. He's dressed in a black tee shirt and his sweatpants were a rather distasteful shade of orange. Comfortable clothing, but his expression told a different story. An expression Yuji hadn't seen before.
Megumi's eyes were red and watery, his face flushed. He says Yuji's name once more before spotting the omega. In large strides, he passes Hana and makes his way over. When he does, Nobara scoots to the side, but stays alert. Her eyes stay on Megumi who stands in front of Yuji, his own gaze only on him.
It's intense, that green color practically glowing.
Yuji swallows again, an apology ready on his tongue. But then, Megumi does the unthinkable.
"Oh my... fuck..." Nobara gasps, Hana sputtering.
Before Yuji could have said anything, Megumi had dropped hard into his knees, surely bruising them, and wrapped his arms around Yuji's torso, burying his face on his lap.
"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry, Yuji. Please don't hate me. Please." Yuji could feel his thoughts get wet with tears. Tears from Megumi. And the hint of ginger was becoming overwhelming. Quickly he turns to Nobara and Hana, placing his hand on top of Megumi's head.
"Could you excuse us? Please?"
Nobara jumps up and grabs Hana's hand to pull her away. "Don't have to tell us twice!"
Once the duo of girls were gone, Yuji pumps out his own scent and runs fingers through Megumi's hair. The alpha is shaking and muttering apologies, keeping his arms tight around Yuji as if to make sure he doesn't run away.
"Hey, hey. Fushi... Megumi, listen to me." Yuji coaxes, playing with the name of Megumi's hair. "I don't hate you. I could never hate you."
"But you're mad at me!" Megumi lifts his head and leans up closer to Yuji. "Aren't you? I just wanted to protect you."
"I know. I know you do. I was mad at you, but I know you mean well." He sighs, shaking his head. "I should be apologizing to you. I... did that."
Megumi huffs. "You were in the right to put me in my place though. I was being stupid. I... I needed that."
"But..."
Megumi replaced Nobara's spot by Yuji, nuzzling to his side. "No. I needed to reel it back. Tsumiki always told me off about my impulsive nature and it came back to bite me in the ass. I just... After everything that had happened last year, I just wanted to protect you. But I shouldn't have treated you as if you're fragile. I should have just let you breathe. I was scared to lose you and my alpha brain got too much." He grabs Yuji's hand and gives it a gentle squeeze. "You are worth protecting. You mean a lot to me. You did so much to bring me back and didn't give up on me. Deep down, I wanted to return the favor. Prove to you that I could be your alpha. But I should have your back, not overcrowd you. I shouldn't have ignored you either when you tried talking to me. That was wrong."
Yuji turns red, his creamy strawberry and peach scent mixing in with Megumi's smoky mint and ginger. It's suffocating and surely, anyone could smell them from just down the hall. Yet, it's comforting to them. The intertwining of their scents, bringing them closer. Neither wanted to be any further from each other.
Megumi brings Yuji's hand up to kiss his knuckles. "You were right. We should be more open to each other from now on. I don't want you to hate me."
"I told you I don't. I really don't." Yuji wraps his arms around Megumi's torso to bring him into his lap. "But I should have gave you some time to breathe before coming at you like that. I should not have grabbed you like that. I could have hurt you."
"You didn't though. It's fine. I liked it and it brought me back to my senses." Megumi admits, leaning so that Yuji could bury his face into his neck. "You should keep doing it. Whenever I decide to be a dumb alpha. It's your right as my omega."
Yuji laughs, feeling less heavy in the chest. "Your omega?"
"More openness with each other, remember? I want you. I need you. I am your alpha and you're my omega."
"... So you have feelings for me? Like that?"
Megumi slides off Yuji's lap and gets back onto his knees, taking his hands in his and kissing his knuckles again all while looking up at the omega. Still intense and still making Yuji shake. "Have for a long time. Do you..."
"I do. I just... I wasn't sure if I'm the one you would want. You could do better, you—"
"Sure, I could do better than the omega that risked so much to save me from a maniac from the Heian era who used my body to kill and terrorize and didn't give up on me even when I did." Megumi scoffs. "If you think lowly of yourself like that again, it won't be pretty." He switches to kissing all over Yuji's face. His forehead, his nose, cheeks, jawline and finally a soft one onto his lips. "Yuji, how could I not want you? I feel safe with you. And I hope to be your safe space, too."
Yuji smiles. He returns a kiss to Megumi's cheek. "You are. You made me feel less alone and lost when I thought I had no one else. Even if I did have everyone, I would have still felt lonely without you. I'll be your omega and I accept you as my alpha." He leans forward to press his forehead to Megumi's. The bangs of their hair gently scratching their skin and they basked in each other's presence. They don't say anything for a while. They didn't need to.
Their steady breathing and heartbeats were enough for them to know the other is there. The aroma of their lightening, yet still present scents satisfied their hunger of wanting the other there. Yuji caressed Megumi's scarred face, pressing sweet kisses to every inch of his skin he could touch while the alpha kept himself grounded with his hands squeezing Yuji's bare thighs ever so gently.
Any fear either of them had in their hearts were gone, depleted by the security of each other's affection.
They last like that for some time. Neither of them had been sure if it had been for minutes or hours, but it felt like forever. Yuji had welcomed Megumi back on the couch and wrapped the blanket around them, mimicking his and Nobara's position earlier.
Safe. This is safe for them. The closeness, their mixed scents. Megumi buries his nose into Yuji's neck, his soft exhale ghosting on Yuji's exposed skin. His inner alpha is calm, indulging Yuji's attention on him. Those nimble fingers of his were back to combing through Megumi's spiky locks and massaging his scalp. Megumi wonders if it would be too much to ask him to... Nevermind. Save that for another time.
"Kugisaki might tease you about what you did earlier. You falling on your knees." Yuji says. "You looked so..."
"Pathetic. I know. But I don't care." Megumi kisses his neck. "She can laugh."
"You better not get mad at her."
"Is everything okay now?"
The couple look over to see Hana peeking into the room with Nobara and the added company of the others. Yuji noticed that their scents had dwindled down.
"We're okay. We just had to talk."
Nobara scurries over to them and sits by Megumi. "So, can someone please tell what happened between you two or...?" She crosses her arms and pouts.
Megumi sighs. "I'll tell her."
"Don't leave out any details either, Fushiguro!"
EARLIER
Ijichi barely had a minute to really put the car in park before Megumi had opened the door and hurried out. He ignores Yuji calling after him, placing his hands in his pockets and refusing to listen to the omega. His nose twitches catching soured strawberries, peaches and curdled milk in the air and it almost made him want to turn around and voice his regrets, but he's stubborn.
"Fushiguro! Talk to me!"
"Just leave it!" He growls back. "Don't be so damn hardheaded!"
He hears Yuji scoff behind him. He knew he had to be close.
"Me?! I'm the hardheaded one?! You're being an ass right now, you know that? Why won't you listen to me?!"
His heart broke hearing the desperation in Yuji's plea, but he couldn't turn around to comfort him. The shame was too much.
"I don't want to! Just go—"
Megumi felt himself be pulled back and he stumbles off his feet, falling to his knees. Nails had scratched his scalp and his hair was nearly tugged from his roots. A shock runs down his spine and he lets out a hiss. Megumi barely had time to really register whatever was happening probably before his nostrils were inflamed from peaches and spices, his head was tilted back and he was looking straight into golden brown eyes.
A low growl, almost cat-like, rumbles from Yuji's throat.
"You're being stupid right now, Fushiguro. After everything we have gone through, you think you could just act the way you did without talking to me? You think you shouldn't tell me anything? That hurts, you know! It hurts! I don't want to fight with you. I want you to tell me what's wrong and me to you. I just want to understand..."
Yuji trails off there, his eyes dulling and widening while the grip he had in Megumi's hair loosened in seconds. When he lets go, Megumi catches himself on his hands. He glanced up at Yuji to see the omega close to crying, hands shaking at his sides.
"No... Oh, shit... I screwed up! Fushiguro, I... I'm sorry! I didn't mean...!" He turns on his heels and takes off, that infamous inhumane speed of his kicking in before Megumi could even call him back.
PRESENT
Nobara isn't too sure if she wants to laugh, cry or both. The imagery of Megumi Fushiguro on his knees with his hair being gripped was... Well... She isn't too sure how to feel about that. Just the thought is ridiculously unusual and the longer she ponders about it, the more she had wished she could have seen it herself.
Hana did though, she seen it.
She needs confirmation. So she turned to the vessel of Angel and juts her thumb to Megumi and Yuji. "For real, was Megumi really...?"
"Yes." Hana answers, nodding. "He was really on his knees with his hair being pulled." Her face is nearly as red as Yuji's signature hoodie.
Nobara looks back at the couple. "Oh, that is just... Wow."
"Huh. Never would have imagined that." Maki remarks from where she was seated on the other couch. "Seems like something that would have happened to Yuta." Beside her, Toge stifles a giggle with the collar of his jacket.
At the mention of his name, the alpha whines. "Maki, why that has to be something that happens to me?"
She shrugs. "I don't know. Just seems fitting."
"You're mean."
"Thank you."
Nobara gets up from next to Megumi and takes a seat on Maki's lap and crosses her arms, pouting. She hums, moving her head side to side slowly. Then she says, "You know what? Fushiguro had it coming from all those times he would grab onto Itadori's hoodie. Well, he's very touchy with Itadori."
Megumi didn't look even an ounce of ashamed. "In my defense, whenever we're separated, something happens."
"Or something forces you to separate." Maki claims, arms hugged around Nobara's waist. Toge leaned over to rest on her shoulder while Yuta sat between his legs with his back pressed against the couch, placing his head on Toge's left knee.
With Megumi and Yuji cuddling under the blanket, Hana was left by her lonesome. She stood there awkwardly for some time, debating on leaving or just sitting down. But then, she catches strawberries and peaches in the air. The alpha's wings flap once and her eyes meet Yuji's. He had made an open spot on his right side, Megumi still happily nuzzled to him on the left. Hana knew he was offering and accepted, sitting down. Being close, she could sense Angel stir within her for some moments, but ignored the sorcerer.
"You must not like being separated, then?" Yuta questions. "You seemed so... upset that time."
Arms tighten around Yuji. Megumi lets out a low growl from his throat.
Yuta chuckles. "That answers my question."
"So you're together now?" Maki teases. "Took you long enough. And you just had to do some hair pulling."
Yuji groans. "I can't believe I did that..." He chooses to hide in the blanket while only Megumi's face peeks out. "Let's not talk about it anymore." His embarrassment had not been shared.
"Don't beat yourself up. I already told you that it's fine." He kisses the top of Yuji's head and rubs his back. Within seconds, the two had forgotten about the others, doting on each other underneath the blanket with kisses and soft whispers.
The others didn't pay them any mind, engaged in their own conversation about whatever else came up as a topic. The rest of that day had been nothing but peaceful for them. It felt as if an old friend have finally came around.
Peace. Happiness.
Even if it were just that day, they all appreciated it.
Much later that night, Hana had found herself in the eating area neighboring the kitchen. She had craved a late snack and much to her delight, had seen her leftover edamame was still in the fridge and choose that to satisfy her.
For a while, she's alone. She sits under the only light on in the room at a table with a small blanket wrapped around her, her wings folded against her back. It's the sounds of her munching that could be heard.
Before her ears picked up on light footsteps heading in her direction. She's alert, pushing her chair back to jump to her feet until she catches the scent of the visitor and relaxes.
"Oh, didn't think anyone else would be up this late."
Coming out from the shadows is Yuji. His clothes were disheveled, his hair stuck out in different directions and there's a faint imprint on his cheek, possibly from sleeping on his arm or something. When he sees Hana, he stops and waves to her.
"Yeah, I woke up a little hungry."
"Oh!" Hana picks up her bowl and holds it out to him. "Would you like some?"
Yuji pauses, making a face and eyeing her. "... Are you sure?"
She nods. "I have plenty for the both of us. It's okay."
Still, he hesitates. He reaches out before pulling back his hand and shaking his head. "On second thought, I'm not all that hungry."
Hana huffs hard enough to blow her bangs up. She knew she would know defeat before claiming any victory. After earlier, she believed that her and Yuji could venture on another path to be friends. The alpha didn't like the gap between them. She knew they could be closer. Even if now the omega held the heart of the boy she loved.
Or was it love? For a while now, Hana had begun to question if she loved Megumi or tricked herself into believing it to be love. Or if it was love, could it be love for the partner she dreamt of? Maybe it's love, just not the type she thought it to be. She knew she greatly admired the other alpha and wanted to be by his side. Yet, for as long as she waited and tried to catch his attention, Megumi didn't show a sign of returning anything she felt. The feeling of wanting to be by her side, too. Share that immense affection she had for him.
He smiles at her, but it was smiles he gave to anybody who wasn't Yuji. He talks to her, but his tone is different. Gentle, yet distant. He'll stand close to her to aid her, but not out of some special treatment reserved for a partner. It's out of the goodness of his heart and the guilt.
She is jealous, she is. Yet, she couldn't find it in herself to resent Yuji or even Megumi. Life could be unfair sometimes, and it's not always at the fault of others, after all. They had time to know each other and form something Hana was just a little too late to for. She shouldn't dwell on it. Instead, moving forward and figuring out what all she has yet to figure out.
Such as her relationship with Yuji. Who was still just standing there. She is sure that one wrong move, he would run.
"Itadori, it's okay. How come sit with me." Hana offers, gesturing to the vacant chair across from her.
Yuji looks from her to the spot and then back to her. For just that moment, Hana had been ready to give up until Yuji moved to the table and pulled out the chair to sit in. Once he's sat, Hana offers her snack to share again and he accepts.
"Thank you."
She smiles. "You're welcome."
Together, they ate the edamame in silence, just enjoying in the company of the other. Yuji's nose caught the faint scent of Hana's vanilla and lemon and his nerves settle. He feels bad for acting so awkward around the alpha now.
"I'm sorry."
Hana looks at him with a tilt of her head, her halo glowing more brightly than the light above them.
"For what? You didn't do anything wrong."
Yuji sighs. "Yeah, but... I feel that I have." He leans back in his chair and crosses his arms. He looks away from her. "I'm sorry. I just... I really don't know what to do."
Hana leans over. "Do you hate me?"
He turns back to her. "Hm?"
"Do you hate me, Itadori?"
He shakes his head. "I don't."
"Good. I don't hate you." She holds out her hand. When Yuji doesn't move, she reaches out more and he places his hand in hers. She rubs her thumb against his faintly scarred skin. "It's tough, isn't it? It's like we take a step forward before being pushed two steps back." She leans more to the table to rest against her upper arm. He does the same, scooting his chair closer to be more comfortable at the table.
"You didn't do anything wrong. It's really just my own issues." Yuji flips their hands so that his hand was under hers. Hana lightly taps his palm with her fingertips. It tickles, but it doesn't bother him. Just reminds him he's here. Reminds him that Hana is here, too. "You could have had more fingers than me had I been stronger."
Hana switches to poking. "No, I wasn't thinking clearly. I... Everything got so crazy and all I saw was Megumi being hurt and I wanted to save him." Her eyes sting a little. "It's not your fault."
"... I should have asked you and Angel to execute me sooner. That was my plan, you know. Get rid of me and Sukuna."
She hums. "Would Megumi have approved of that?"
"... Probably not. But it would have saved him so much trouble. Would have saved so much trouble for everyone."
"But they would be sad without you." Hana sits up and squeezes his hand. "I think they all would have rather you be here. Including me. I would be sad without you."
Yuji blinks and his sight becomes blurry, his throat feeling dry suddenly. "We barely know each other. There wouldn't have been much of me to miss."
"And that's why I would be sad. I would be sad that we didn't get the chance to be true friends. I would have mourned what could have been for us, you know."
"... I would have felt the same had you died."
"And holding onto that guilt. Itadori, it's okay." Hana says, nose twitching at the suddenness of soured strawberries in the room. A couple of tears escape her round green eyes. "Please, please. Understand that I have no ill will against you."
He chokes. "I know. But..."
"No! Itadori... Yuji, we all are at fault for something, okay? Life can be unfair like that. But we can move on. Let's move on. I want to be your friend. Besides," Hana gives his hand another squeeze, "we can understand each other, can we? Can try to?"
"... I would like to."
They smile at each other, tears swelled in their eyes and still holding hands. The rest of the edamame had been long forgotten. The sweet tang of strawberries and lemons fill the room, settling their nerves. Their scents overpowered the faint one hidden within the shadows. Neither of them had noticed the glowing pair of eyes watching them or heard the very low growl coming from the alpha's throat.
"You must have talked."
Yuji lets Megumi nuzzle into his neck as he hugged him from behind. Hana had just left the couple after having a brief conversation with them. Megumi had took notice that for the past couple of days, she had been more friendlier with Yuji as Yuji had been with her.
Megumi didn't exactly have an issue with it. He likes Hana, but given how new his status with Yuji is, he became just a little on edge smelling her lemon and vanilla scent on Yuji. It's not all that potent, but it still bothered the alpha. He feels a little childish seeing Hana as a threat when he knows neither she or Yuji meant to harm. She is a friend, but she is also still an alpha.
He hates when things seem complicated.
"We did. We're getting to a better place." Yuji tells him, grabbing the alpha by the hand and leading him into the direction of their dormitory. "We decided to be friends. It just... It just didn't feel right now being friends."
Megumi hums, nodding. "I get it." He gets into his space again, eyeing Yuji and deciding where he wanted to bite him. "It's nice to see you being closer."
Yuji sighs and then chuckles. "There's a 'but' there. I know it. What's the problem, Megumi?"
"Can't help but feel a little jealous. You're not trying to replace me with another alpha, are you?" Megumi chooses to bite him on his right ear, nibbling on his earlobe and earning a yelp out the omega. "It would sadden me."
Yuji hits his shoulder. "Never! You really think I would replace you?"
"No."
"I wouldn't. I want you."
"And I want you."
"And you wouldn't replace me with anyone else, would you?"
Megumi shakes his head. "Wouldn't dream of it. I don't think there's anyone who could pull my hair the way you do." He laughs at the redness born on Yuji's face and how his nose scrunched up. He gets hit in the shoulder again.
"You're insufferable!"
"Yet, you're still here." When they made it to the hallway of their rooms, Yuji is lifted into Megumi's arms and carried to his room.
Neither go into it yet, finding the door slightly ajar and the threshold not smelling like anything they ever came across before, yet somehow had a tad bit of familiarity to it. It's stale, lifeless. Yet, smelling it enough could make one dizzy. It's not one anyone could really identify. It reminds them of...
Alert, Megumi steps away from Yuji's room and takes the omega into his. He places Yuji on the bed and wraps him in his blanket. Yuji watches as Megumi's sword pops out from his shadows and into his hand before the alpha makes way to the door.
"Stay here." Megumi demands, emitting ginger from his glands.
Yuji struggles out the blanket and gets to his feet. "Hey, my room, you know."
"That someone intruded. They could still be there and dangerous." He tries to maneuver Yuji back onto the bed, but Yuji grabs his arm and pushes him to the door. "Yuji—"
"I'm going with you. If you think I'm going to let you go alone, you're wrong, alpha."
Megumi stills at the usage of that word and grips onto his sword even tighter. "Yuji, please."
"You just said the intruder could be dangerous. Wouldn't it be better if the both of us went?"
Felt as if history is repeating itself, but in reverse. Once upon a time, Yuji wanted to ensure Megumi's safety by separating them. Now, he needed to be as close as possible. And Megumi knew Yuji would dispute more. He knew the omega needed the security of being next to his alpha just as much as Megumi needed that security of Yuji being out of harm's way. He's strong and will continue to grow. That much Megumi is confident in and felt a sense of pride from it. Yet, that didn't mean Yuji shouldn't and wasn't worth being protected.
So he settles for negotiating.
"Fine. You can come with me." He turns so that he's facing Yuji and grabs on his chin, forcing the other to be closer. So close that their noses nearly touched. "But stay close and if I say to run, you do it." He lets go and leads the way without giving Yuji a chance to object.
Together, the two push open Yuji's room door and slowly step inside, bracing themselves. Much to their bewilderment, nothing seems to be out of place. Not even the bed that was neatly made up exactly how Yuji made it that morning. They checked all over the room, finding nothing that have a clue that someone came in. Just that scent lingered.
Megumi sighs, lowering his sword and pinching the bridge of his nose. "I don't like this at all."
Yuji nods and steps back to his side. "Me neither."
"You'll stay in my room for a while, okay? Until this scent goes away." Although, Megumi wonders if he could convince the omega to become his permanent roommate. Surely, Yuji's room could become an extra room of sorts for them when they needed space from each other. Maybe a nesting room.

"Should we report this?"
"We are going to have to. You might not be the only person who had their room touched. The more everyone is aware, the safer we are." Megumi kisses Yuji's forehead and takes hold of his hand. "Let's go see if the others ran into the same problem."
