Chapter Text
I was just trying to make it through his twelve hour shift in the E.R. when his young intern joined him in the nurses station. “What would you do if you were being stalked?” Well I guess Kimi was going straight to the point tonight. “Excuse me”
“What would you do –” I interrupted, “ No, I know what you said. What makes you think you’re being stalked?” He replied, “When I walk to the bus station to get home I have been seeing someone following me, for like five nights in a row now.”
“Ok ummmm maybe let me drive you home tonight” “ No it's fine I will be extra careful tonight, besides it will almost be light out when I leave.”
Kimi had been like my “work child” as my colleague *cough Lando cough* calls him, since the moment he was placed under my supervision in the Emergency Wing. Hearing him say something like this was worrying especially after seeing the warning for increased mob activity on the news this morning. “Are you sure I just want to make sure you get home safe?”
“Yeah, it's so far out of your way I wouldn’t want to inconvenience you like that. It would waste so much of your time, my dorm is halfway across the city from your apartment.” “Ok just keep me on standby if you need anything tonight.” Just as we finished this conversation the doors of the E.R. burst open and about nine paramedics rushed in wheeling three gunshot victims from what I assumed was another local gang fight, we had had three already this week. All victims usually have multiple gunshot wounds, bruises, and broken bones.
I turned to Kimi “Let’s do this again” “How many times has this happened?” Kimi asked, a little green around the gills. It was then I realized that this was the first time Kimi had been here when the victims from the fights had made it to the hospital having just missed out last time with the end of his shift. “Just about three times a week after the activity ramped up about a year ago.” “ok. What do you want me to tell the trauma unit?” “ Hopefully it’s Pierre and not Flavio. Just tell them that we have three victims with multiple GSWs.”
“Why would I want Pierre over Flavio?” “Because I think Flavio would rather just let all of the mob people die than help them and I don’t want you to have to deal with that circus.” “I’m glad I got someone who actually cares to shadow rather than someone like him. I've heard stories from Franco.” “Who’s Franco?” “My roommate and fellow intern here at the hospital somehow fancies being a trauma surgeon. He was doing so great under JV’s supervision but Flavio directly requested that he be moved to his unit instead.” Oh great we have multiple new interns on this shooting. This is going to be the longest twelve hour shift he had ever worked, hopefully none of these new kids pass out.
Just his luck, as they were coming into the rooms one of the paramedics started to sway. Kimi leaned over to catch him just in time before he hit the floor. “ Sorry George, it's his first night on the job he just got assigned to us this week. I’m impressed he made it this far, this one's pretty brutal.” My long time college friend Charles explained. “Kimi take him to the next room over and make sure he’s alright, the trauma boys should be down here soon enough.”
Just as Franco and DAMN Flavio entered the room, why did he have to grace my presence tonight? I know Pierre is here. “George I thought I told you I don't want you to call us for stupid fucking mob fights anymore.” Great he was going to be like this in front of the paramedics. Honestly he's making a joke of this hospital not that the head doctor Horner was much better. We will probably end up sued AGAIN within the year. “ They are making the paramedics real squeamish aren’t they? Back in my day, nobody batted an eye at this kind of thing.” “Uhhhh guys can we not discuss this right now we literally have people dying in front of us and you're debating whether my NEW, like first day new colleagues is fit for this job.” Damn Charles rarely got this angry he must have already decided this new paramedic was his child. God lando really has gotten into my mind recently.
“If you don’t want to work in these kinds of cases, have Pierre do it. I know he’s here.” Damn Charles was really getting fired up about this tonight. Then Flavio decided that he needed to open his useless flytrap again, “ You're a paramedic. I don’t believe that it is in your job description to criticise the main trauma surgeon at a hospital.” “No it’s not but it is in my job description to save people’s lives and you are preventing the life saving care from happening. Call Pierre and tell him to do this. I will report this to the state and hopefully you get your medical license revoked. You don’t deserve it.” “Fine” Flavio was really touchy about the state finding out about his ways. I should ask one of the kids to do their internet stalking thing and find out what they can about him.
“ Why did it have to be tonight? They were gonna let me and Jack go home early tonight because it was quiet but now we are going to have to go over our damn shift again because of that Files de Pute (son of a bitch). I don’t know what happened before we got here but he has something against helping these mob victims. LIke I know they are probably bad people but they don’t deserve to die. Come on Franco, you can help too.” Well I probably should send some wine over to Pierres after this, maybe even some vodka after making him deal with this. Pierre didn’t even start to be a trauma surgeon but the director of the pediatric wing decided he wasn’t good enough two weeks into his internship.
