Work Text:
"Avery, what's in your inventory?" Derek says right before he pushes Avery off the platform but fate had other plans. Avery succeeded to make his way up the platform to Derek just in time as he starts chanting the spell.
Avery wrestles the book out of Derek's hands and with a bittersweet smile he says, "I can't let you do this Derek, you'll die, I'd rather you than me."
With a quick distracting kiss, Avery pushed Derek away, opens the book, and invokes the spell, becoming one with the king.
Avery feels like he is being squeezed into a tube of never ending pain, he wants to scream— he needs to scream, he can't, he tries everything in his power but all of it is futile.
The slime is stuck in an endless loop—over and over and over and over—but then, it stops. Instead of an endless loop, he is now trapped in a void, darkness is all that he can see except for a speck of light.
Avery runs for what felt like hours until he finally reached the source of light. A voice resonates in the void, "I must kill him, he will interfere with my plans."
With a sense of dread, Avery realizes that the voice belongs to non-other than the king in yellow. His breath quickens, "No, no, no, I don't want Derek to die, he has to live! Damn it."
Avery, in desperation, grabs the ball of light, shaking it and shouting, "Don't kill him you piece of shit! Don't!"
He hears the voice of the king, "How is your consciousness still intact? This is impossible!"
