Chapter Text
“Jump, my little bird. I’ll always catch you”
the voice flickered through his pounding head, sudden and unfamiliar.
for a moment, he didn’t understand what was happening.
then the pain set in, sharp, sudden.
it spread from the back of his head, pulsing with the same rhythm as his heart.
Something was wrong.
he tried to move.
nothing.
he couldn’t move his arm, his legs, not even his head.
he started to panic, but every breath he tried to inhale was way too painful.
he swallowed, throat dry.
it hurt.
everything hurt.
something warm spread beneath him, thick, sticky.
Blood.
he didn’t know how he knew that, he just did.
his fingers twitched slightly against the cold ground, but even that small movement sent a wave of dizziness crashing over him.
his breath stuttered.
he needed to hide, wherever he was-–he felt too exposed.
why did he think like that?
why did it feel like he was supposed to know what to do?
the question lingered, but not for long.
they slipped, every time he tried to grasp, and make sense of them.
Something was very wrong.
every time he tried to think of something-–someone, his mind went blank.
he tried again, pushing harder this time, like effort alone might force all of his memories back.
a name. He needed a name.
his.
he felt his mind brush over it-–and then it was gone in instant.
his chest tightened, panic flickering briefly before fading. He couldn’t even fully form it.
it slipped, like everything else.
he blinked slowly. Everything felt…distant.
he tried to think yet again, tried to hold onto something, anything.
a face.
a place.
a reason.
nothing came.
his breathing grew uneven again, shallow inhales.
there was nothing but the loud noise of the city.
And then, came a sound.
not the cities constant overlapping noise.
but a humans, somewhere near.
so faint he almost missed it.
“…there-–!”
his eyes fluttered, trying to focus.
to listen, maybe if his throat allowed, to answer.
he waited.
