Chapter Text
Grumbling to himself Goro walks over to the classroom white board looking at the picture of the ridiculous logo drawn there in chalk. “Phantom Thieves, what a stupid name.” Huffing as he erases the stupid drawing from the board, slapping the eraser harshly against the board as he finishes leaving a large white blot there instead.
“Sounds like someone isn’t a fan of everyone’s new favorite heroes.” An annoyingly familiar voice chimes behind him and glancing back he sees their equally as annoying as she is perceptive student council president. Looking to the board then back to him she offers him an amused but knowing smirk. “Perhaps you’re more frustrated with your own fall from popularity rather than their rise to it?”
Rolling his eyes as he continued to stare at the board and the slowly disappearing picture Goro huffs a response since he knew she wouldn’t leave without one. “I’ve made my stance on the thieves rather clear I’d say Nijima.” Blunt and to the point, a side he rarely let show at this blasted school other than to the other members of the student council and one particularly annoying black haired student who was always covered in cat fur.
Shaking her head clearly still amused she just shrugs. “Well either way if you wouldn’t mind heading out soon, a few students have this room reserved for an event in the next few hours. I’m sure you saw it on the calendar in the student council room. I’m pretty sure you could leave the drawing, I’m sure they’d rather enjoy it.”
Oh yes the Phantom Thieves Phan Club as they called themselves had reserved the room for their weekly meeting hadn’t they? Goro rubs the eraser harder against the board, intent on erasing any evidence the crudely made version of the PHantom thieves logo had ever existed. Sighing behind him Makoto simply turns to get everything else ready for the meeting.
Within 15 minutes the room was filled with students of all ages from 1st years to 3rd all collectively chattering about how much they adored the thieves' work and their most recent changes of heart. Among them Goro could easily spot a few familiar faces that he wanted to laugh at for having the audacity to attend their own fan club.
Tossing his classwork into his bag and offering anyone who stopped him a slightly too big friendly smile, small dismissive goodbyes, and little waves Goro heads for the door to get himself as far away from the room as possible. As he reaches for the door though it slides open and there before him is the one other person who’s presence he could stomach standing before him with his poorly hidden feline companion right alongside him in his bag.
“Oh. Akechi-kun I didn’t know you were a fan of the thieves' work.” Teasing words come near instantly from the mop of black hair and while Goro wants to bristle at the words, he instead offers a small smile and a chuckle.
“Ah Kurusu, I unfortunately must inform you that my stance on the thieves has not changed unfortunately and I was simply on clean up duty for my classroom today and my partner ended up taking off so it simply took me a while longer to do it alone.”
Frowning at that Akira reaches up and twirls a piece of his hair before speaking again. “If that ever happens again, just shoot me a text. I’ll come up and help you. You shouldn’t have to do all that work alone.”
Fighting the way his stomach did flips at the words Goro clears his throat slightly. “That is a mighty kind offer Kurusu but I simply couldn’t ask you to-”
“You didn’t ask, I offered.” Akira corrected him nearly instantly, which would usually infuriate him to no end but with Akira…for some reason it never did.
“That I suppose you did…” A clearing of the throat behind Akira brought the boy’s attention back to just where they were- blocking the door. “Ah I suppose that is my cue. Have a…nice meeting Kurusu I’ll be on my way.” Akechi then slips past the other boy before he could say anything else.
Adjusting his bag on his shoulder as he walked down the hall Goro silently swore he would bring down the thieves sooner rather than later. Then there would be no line in the sand between them anymore. He’d bring them down so that there would be nothing else that would distract Akira.
Goro swore he’d bring down the thieves so that perhaps…one day…he could be the thing Akira bothered to pay attention to instead.
