Roses are well known for romance, admiration, and so much more to even put into words. Roses come in various colors, mostly commonly red and pink. Roses are the most overrated type of flower known to man because they are included in everything pink.
So why did I wake up to see rose petals?
Five pink rose petals lay there on my pillow, suspiciously near my face when I open my eyes. I silently scooped it up and dumped it next to my dorm’s trash can. No one has entered my room since the door wasn’t open, and I know for a fact the other clowns won’t remember my warnings. However, there’s one who might’ve..
Pink.
“Why am I thinking about him now?” I asked myself as the door opened slowly. “Hey, you went to bed early last night; how did you sleep?”
‘Dammit.’ “I slept fine. Did anyone go into my room last night?” I asked him sharply. “Nope! I know how you hate being disturbed if you are really tired, so I told Sensei and the others to keep away from your room unless it was an emergency!” ‘How. .kind of you.’ I thought as I stared directly at him.
‘A cheesy smile. A pair of eyes wide as a happy puppy. A-’
All of a sudden, my stomach felt uncomfortable and tightened as I almost fell backwards from my standing position. He yelled. “Oh my God, hold on!” I quickly rushed to hold onto the desk. The feeling of sickness quickly made itself known. ‘I don’t feel well. What is happening?!’ I screamed in my mind as I pushed him away. “Let me help, you’re probably sick.” He gave me a grocery bag from shopping day to my face as I quickly coughed out whatever made my stomach upset. “I won’t bother you anymore, but class starts in fourteen minutes. I will wait for you until you feel better.” He said. As he rushed out the door, I looked inside the bag, conflicted.
Pink petals, about twenty-four, covered in copper red liquid, filled the bag.
“When did I swallow roses?” I asked myself, but decided to dump the bag in the trash to not waste time. ‘I haven’t even showered yet, and I’m going to be late to that idiot's class. I’m sure this will stop on its own.’ I thought as I made my way to my bathroom.
Fourteen days passed, and the pink roses kept increasing.
It became clear that I thought of the annoying, cheerful boy all the time. I wasn’t dense, but I wished it wasn’t true. ‘Why him out of all people?’ I hate myself for letting my feelings get out of control. I had no time for this. How did the flower sickness even start? Roses aren’t even my favorite flowers, and looking at blood and rose petals from my insides wasn’t helping. ‘Am I dying?’ “No.”
I wasn’t about to think that way. I need to stop the flowers from growing and this unnecessary feeling.
‘Why did I have to like him?’
‘Why does his voice calm me down?’
‘Why is his stupid pink hair so cute?’
‘Why are the pink petals reminding me of-’
The flowers appear every time I think about him. The feeling of my face on fire when he notices me, and my thoughts are filled with the color pink. Soft. Bright. Joyful. Roses.
‘Yuji Itadori.’
“Hey Megumi, do you want to eat with me? Why are you eating alone?”
I turned my head to face his stupid, sunny, annoying smile that still manages to calm my nerves. I felt my throat drying with the petals rising.
‘That's it.’ “I’ll be right back. I’m going to talk to Sensei.” I put my sandwich down and ruffled his hair as a quick test. ‘It was so soft.’ I thought and made my way to the classroom.
“Hanahaki, is a sickness caused by unrequited love. The victim grows flowers in the lungs as a result. The flowers are either the person’s favorite color or type.”
…
“I’m not confessing.”
“Why?”
“I can’t.”
“You won’t feel love again if you get the surgery. He’s also good for you.”
“I’m not going to risk either, Gojo.”
“Do you see the way he looks at you?”
“What are you talking about?”
“He worries about you, he considers you first before anything!”
“He only sees me as a friend.”
“I can’t let you die like this!”
“. . ”
“It will get worse if you don’t take action to confess.”
“I will rather die.”
“I will rather not have you end up like him.”
“Who is ‘him’?”
“Someone very important to me, who’s not alive anymore because I was stupid.”
I stared at my teacher, who looked defeated with the dullest shade in his eyes. “He had the same disease, and I killed him because I said the wrong thing.”
‘Oh..’
“I’m sorry.”
“I raised you for years, but the kid changed you so much. Just tell him.” I went to my desk quietly as Yuji entered the class. “Why didn’t you come back? I miss you, you know.” The sunny boy asked as he made his way next to me. I swallow the flowers down to not draw attention. “None of your business, idiot.” He still smiled.
Petals turned into thorns and flowers.
I began struggling to eat, to sleep, to do anything. Blood stained my blankets, clothes, and food. Everyone but Yuji noticed and didn’t say anything. I began to accept my death early.
Hours later
I had the worst coughing fit with the floors since the days went day but today was when my fate was sealed. In public, the roses and thorns made an appearance out of my mouth, rapidly growing on my face. The surface of my cheeks and ears were in thorns and stems.
Many panicked screams were heard once my vision faded out in the cafeteria. I felt to the floor as soft hands hold my back. My small vision saw blood, the pink petals on my cheeks, and…”
‘Yuji’
“I love you.. . . .Yuji, never forget that.”
“Megumi, hold on!!”
……
….
..
.
Gojo failed to protect someone important...for the second time
Yuji watched pink roses, his favorite, take his first and last love life that day.
…
He never loved looked at flowers the same again.
"He should've known I felt the same way."
