Chapter Text
June 9th, 200X... 1 year after Mega Man (Rock Light) and Mega Woman (Roll Light) saved the world and their brothers from Dr. Albert Wily.
Their siblings were all at their jobs: Cut Man was with Raccoon Lumber, Guts Man was with Skyraisers Construction, Ice Man was with Ayasato Antarctic Exploration, Bomb Man was with Masters Demolition, Fire Man was with G-Red Waste Disposal, Elec Man was with Maximoff Electric, Oil Man was with Feni Oil Drilling Co. and Time Man was with the Chronos Institute. Dr. Light had gone back to making robots, and was currently in the middle of building a dog robot - one that would be a pet to Rock and Roll, but could also assist them in combat if needed. He had already installed three functions that would help with combat, but the dog was far from finished.
Rock and Roll were currently playing video games. Rock was playing Castlevania, while Roll played Mortal Kombat. She wasn’t alone, she played online, and was rather good, to a point it scared Rock a little. Just a little though. Dr. Light entered the room, and smiled. Roll was deep in concentration while Rock looked like he just got shot. He missed his jump at the very end on his last life. The controller fell from his hand. After sulking a little he went to see Roll’s gameplay, but then stopped seeing all the gore. Roll had really taken to fighting. She trained practically every day, despite the lack of a need for it. It seemed to be something she… actually enjoyed, now that her brothers weren’t the people she was fighting unless it was a spar. Rock looked away. He’d trained a few times but he just hated it. He hated fighting in general! Sure, in a video game he could understand, but why would someone like to actually fight? He sighed and picked up his controller again.
Dr. Light looked rather pleased. He was happy to see his kids being kids. Well maybe Roll was too young for Mortal Kombat but plenty of her online opponents were also kids. He thought about Cut Man, Ice Man, and Time Man. They were also kids, and Bomb Man and Oil Man were teenagers. He wished they were here too, so they could enjoy being kids and teens. Then, the power was cut out.
“Hey! I was just about to win!” Roll complained. Static appeared on the screens, then a logo. Wily’s logo.
“Muhahahahahaha! Hello again, Mega Man and Mega Woman!” Wily appeared on screen. Rock gasped, jumping back.
“Wily!” Roll got into a combat stance on instinct.
“Yes, it’s me. I bet you’re wondering how I got out of jail. Well, I actually got out mere WEEKS after incarceration thanks to some contingency plans I had. I’m sure those buffoons haven’t even noticed I’ve traded places with a robotic duplicate!” Wily laughed. Dr. Light was shocked! How could he not have known!? He should have at least tried to visit him in prison, maybe then they would have realized what had happened. But, Rock and Roll insisted he stay away from his old friend after what he had done.
“What do you want?!” Roll demanded, holding her controller like a throwing weapon. Rock had picked up a plate from the floor to use as a shield. After all, what if Wily hacked their defense systems? They needed to be on guard, even if their “weapons” wouldn’t do much.
“What I want is to issue you two little brats a challenge! You may have defeated me last time, but this time I’m not using Light’s weak pieces of scrap, but my own! I’ve created a robot that cuts better than Cut Man, a robot with flames hotter than Fire Man, one quicker than Elec Man, and one that can actually stop time, unlike Time Man! And four other robots, uniquely MINE! All made with one goal in mind - to turn you two into piles of scrap metal!” Silhouettes appeared on screen, with eyes and mouth white and everything else black. The eight robots looked menacing, with four glaring, lacking a mouth, four eyes sharp and mouths snarling, and one with a cocky grin, like he’d already won. That’s when Dr. Light got coordinates. They each had a label:
- Metal Man - the superior Cut Man
- Air Man - the unbeatable
- Bubble Man - the master of water
- Quick Man - the faster Elec Man
- Crash Man - the explosive mind
- Flash Man - the perfected Time Man
- Heat Man - the better Fire Man
- Wood Man - the guardian of the forest
“Go and face my robots!” Wily challenged.
“And if we don’t?” Rock asked.
“Then I will send them after the nearby cities. You two can’t be in eight cities at once, so if you don’t want any innocents to get hurt…” Wily smirked. Roll growled, but Rock placed a hand on her shoulder, calming her down. They looked at each other and nodded.
“We accept your challenge!” Rock said.
“Good. Choose a robot to fight. But you’ll have to make it through their traps first mwuahahahahahahaha!”
The feed cut out, and suddenly Castlevania was back on Rock’s screen, just now paused, and Roll was on the title screen of Mortal Kombat.
“Are you two sure about this?” Dr. Light asked.
“We can’t let innocent people be hurt!” Rock said. Roll was looking at the list.
“Hmm. Which one to face first…” she pondered.
“Wood Man seems like the easiest. Let’s go with him.” Rock suggested.
“Alright! Dr. Light, ready our armor!” Roll said. “Er, please?”
Dr. Light chuckled. As he walked to get it, he passed by his incomplete dog robot. Some of the functions he had planned could help the twins. Maybe he’d turn those into separate items…
Rock and Roll stood atop a skyscraper, armor on but helmets off. The night sky and city lights were beautiful.
“You ready?” Rock asked.
“Ready!” Roll replied.
The helmets appeared on their heads, and they teleported away, to the coordinates listed for Wood Man.
