Work Text:
Shizuo had been sleeping — rather peacefully, he might add — when he got the eerie sensation he was being watched, and his brain slowly pushed him to wakefulness to assess the potential threat.
When he opened his eyes, he found himself staring at a certain flea-shaped silhouette, whose face was a mere few inches from Shizuo's own.
Shizuo called out in surprise and scrambled backwards, his adrenaline spiking, and old instincts told him to expect a knife to be thrown in his general direction.
"You seem awfully comfortable falling asleep in my presence," Izaya noted, and Shizuo could practically hear the smirk in his voice despite it being too dark to see. "Do you feel safe around me, perhaps?"
"Fuck you," Shizuo snapped.
"Maybe later. I'm a little too tired for that right now, so I'll take a rain check."
It took several moments for Shizuo to calm down, his heart still beating fast from the downright unnecessary jumpscare Izaya had just given him. Why was Izaya even up? Shizuo held a hand to his face. "Jesus Christ."
"Not my name, but I suppose if we're talking about name origins, then I guess you're in the right ballpark in terms of religion. Sort of. I'll give you half points for that. I'm feeling generous today."
Shizuo tiredly looked at the clock. 11:57 PM. "It's almost midnight, Izaya."
"Yep. You have exactly two minutes and 36 seconds to bask in my unyielding generosity. Enjoy it while you can."
Shizuo decided this conversation was going nowhere and got back under the covers on the opposite side of the bed, turning around and trying to ignore him. "Just shut up and come back to bed, idiot."
Izaya hesitated, then complied. "Okay, but only because I'm feeling generous." He obediently slipped under the covers and then snuggled up against him. "Just don't complain when I kick you later," he warned.
"Yeah, yeah, whatever."
Shizuo instantly fell back asleep while Izaya continued to stare at him from behind. He slowly reached out a hand to lightly brush Shizuo's hair, breathing in his scent, and Izaya then fell asleep himself, now content.
