Work Text:

Item #: SCP-8045

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-8045 should be contained in an indoor aviary measuring 30m x 40m x 50m (98.4 feet x 131.2 feet x 164 feet). The aviary should contain flora native to the Bahamian Pineyards, especially Pinus caribaea (Caribbean Pine) as SCP-8045 prefers to roost on that particular species. Likewise, temperature, lighting and humidity should also match what is found on Andros Island, Bahamas, and a day-night cycle should be maintained artificially via controllable lights. A small pond should be provided in the aviary, as well as any enrichment items required by SCP-8045 that may pose no potential threat to Staff.

SCP-8045 should be fed a similar diet as Tyto sp. (Barn owls), mostly comprising of dead mice and chicks twice a day. Likewise, fresh water should be provided daily. The aviary should be cleaned twice a week, in which SCP-8045 may be allowed to roam the Site with supervision.

SCP-8045 is highly unlikely to breach containment (As it is seemingly at home in the Site), and is quite affectionate to Staff. However, Staff should treat SCP-8045 politely at all times, and avoid any potentially threatening actions to it. Likewise, if a personnel has been caught mistreating or provoking SCP-8045, they should be detained and immediately evacuated from SCP-8045's view.

Description: SCP-8045 is an avian creature resembling Tyto Furcata (American Barn Owl), approxiamately 1 meter (3.3 Feet) in height, a wingspan of 6 meters and weighing 2.5 kilograms. The body feathers superficially resemble fur, being predominately white with a few dark speckling on the nape and wings. Likewise, the facial disk and wing feathers resemble a typical Tyto specimen, and the eyes differ only in the iris being blood red instead of black. It also have a pair of humanoid arms that are usually tucked under the wings, ending in three digits, one of which is thumb-like. Likewise, the hindlimbs also end in a similar manner, and has a long prehensile tail that ends in a tuft.

SCP-8045 possess sapience, being equivalent to a human in terms of intelligence and tool use. However, it can't communicate in a humanoid manner, instead communicating via shrieks and hisses similar to a typical T. Furcata. It can, however, communicate via drawing and writing, being able to write in both Standard English and Bahamian Creole. During one of these sessions, it stated that its name was "Cherry."

SCP-8045 also possess the ability to alter the casual probability of a single person, depending on how it is treated by an individual. If it is treated well, the individual would be extremely lucky for a year, or until they get something they desire. However, if it is treated poorly or even attacked, the individual will be extremely unlucky for a year, potentially even ending in death or injury. It is unknown how SCP-8045 can change the "luck" of a person, although this effect seems to be limited to only one individual if it interacts with a group, and seems to require interacting with it for a minimum of a minute.

History: SCP-8045 was found in [REDACTED], Andros Isand, Bahamas, after [REDACTED] Wildlife Hospital received it from an elderly couple, who believed it was an injured barn owl. Upon SCP-8045's anomalous nature being observed, the Foundation received it and A-Class Amnestics were given to the employees and couple who interacted with it.

As of [REDACTED], there are no other instances of SCP-8045, presumably becoming critically endangered due to habitat loss and colonisation.
