Work Text:
Arada woke up to a scream next to her. She blinked once, registering Overse’s scream, and felt for her wife. “Babe, can you hear me? You’re having a nightmare. Babe, wake up.”
Overse gasped and shuddered and that might have been one eye open but either way she blinked and suddenly threw the blankets off of her.
“Can you hear me?” Arada tried. “Overse, do you recognize my voice? It’s me, babe. I’m right here. You’re having a nightmare.”
“rada?” Overse’s hoarse voice cracked on the last syllable.
“I’m right here, babe.” Arada put one hand on Overse’s arm, taking a deep breath. They were both safe here. Home on Preservation. No giant monster ships kidnapping them or inhuman alien remnant colonists potentially infecting them or corporations watching them die for shits and giggles.
Overse turned over and flailed with one hand until Arada took pity on her, tucking Overse’s arm around herself and scooting herself so close that she could feel the heat of Overse’s breath on her face.
“Ni–nightmare,” Overse whispered, still shaking into Arada. “You– you died– Leonide killed you–”
“I’m right here, babe. Can you feel me touching you? I’m here.”
Overse hiccuped. “I– I feel you. I can breathe.”
“Good, babe. I love you and I’m right here for as long as you need to hold me.”
“Th-thanks.”
