Chapter 1: Something That Didn’t Shiver

Chapter Text

Rustling leaves. Birds singing—cut off now and then as a harsh wind tore through the trees.

Wind slammed against Tsukasa like a wall.
It was finally time.

Saki was getting out of the hospital.
After six long weeks.

He could finally see his sister again.

And then—he would continue teaching her Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. They would talk about what she had dreamed about. They would draw her wild ideas together, like always.

Tsukasa smiled brightly anyway, gripping the strap of his side bag tighter as another gust nearly pushed him off balance. His orange-and-blue coat snapped in the air.

When his mother called from the house phone, he had nearly tripped over himself getting ready. Now even walking felt like the world was resisting him.

The garage was farther than it should have been, and the wind only made it worse.
He clicked his tongue.

Come on… I just want to see her already.
He pushed forward, but the wind pressed back harder, like it didn’t want him to move at all.

Tsukasa gritted his teeth.

No—he wouldn’t lose to something like this.

He was going to become the World’s Super Star. There was no way something like nature was going to stop him.

He raised his forearm over his eyes, forcing his feet forward. Each step took more effort than it should have.

After a few minutes, he was almost there.
Tsukasa could feel the cold surface of the car. He slipped his hand into his bag and wrapped his fingers around the keys.

Then—

The wind changed.

It wasn’t just stronger. It felt… wrong.

The gusts sharpened, rising in pitch, turning into something almost like a whistle—but higher, strained.

Almost like a voice.

Not quite human. Not quite anything he could name.

Tsukasa froze.

His heartbeat spiked, loud in his ears, trying to drown out the sound—but it didn’t work.

He looked around quickly.

Nothing.

Just the street. Just the wind.

It’s fine.

Nothing to worry about.

And even if it was something—

Tenma Tsukasa , future World’s Super Star, could handle it.

He took one deep breath in—and out.

Tsukasa cast one last look around, almost daring whatever it was to show itself already.

Then he started walking again.

Don’t worry, Saki. I’m coming—

Something slammed into his side.

The air was forced out of his lungs in an instant, and he hit the ground hard.

That wasn’t wind.

Not even close.

Pain shot through his head as his vision blurred slightly. He blinked, eyes watering, forcing himself to focus.

Wait… is that a person?

Blonde hair. Arms. Hands.

And thin clothes—way too thin for this weather.

He blinked again.

There was no way he didn’t hear footsteps. No way something had come at him that fast in this wind.
The figure pushed itself up from above him.

And looked down.

It was a boy.

Younger than him. Shaking.

Terrified.

“I-I’m—please f-forgive me—didn’t mean to—k-knock you—please forgive SVA—”

The words tumbled out in broken fragments as the boy bowed repeatedly, almost violently, like he was trying to erase his own presence.

Tsukasa slowly sat up, groaning, raising his hands in front of him like he was calming a startled animal.

“Hey—hey, calm down. I can’t understand what you’re saying—”

He reached out slightly.

But the boy suddenly looked over his shoulder.
And bolted.

Tsukasa froze.

Damn… he’s fast.

In seconds, the boy was already past the garage entrance—moving like the wind didn’t affect him at all.
Alarm bells rang in Tsukasa’s head.

What is this kid even saying?

Why did he sound so apologetic, like Tsukasa would hate him for something as small as that?

And why did he sound so terrified?

Tsukasa looked over his shoulder.

Nothing.

Only the wind.

He clicked his tongue.

Sorry, Saki… you’ll have to wait a little longer.

The blond broke into a run, ignoring the ache already building in his head and the strain in his legs.

That kid needed help.

———————————————————————————

He had been running for a while, but he still couldn’t find him.

His lungs protested with every breath. His limbs felt heavier now, sluggish in a way he hated.

Tsukasa stopped, bending forward and resting his hands on his knees.

Dammit… I need to train more.

He lifted his head again, scanning the area.

He wasn’t at his neighborhood anymore. Rows of houses stretched around him—trees, fences, mailboxes—

Then he saw it.

Movement.

The high schooler turned toward a backyard.

A minivan sat nearby, a tarp draped over it.

If he squinted, he could see feet tucked underneath it.
And something else.

Something that definitely wasn’t a car.

Tsukasa lowered himself carefully, stepping lighter now, almost silent despite the wind.

He moved closer.

Closer.

Then stopped.

He crouched just a few feet from the tarp.

“Hey… psst!”

He kept his voice as low as he could without letting the wind swallow it.

The tarp shifted slightly.

Silence.

Tsukasa waited.

His legs started to ache from the crouch.

After a few seconds, the tarp lifted slowly.

The boy from earlier peeked out.

Tsukasa let out a small breath of relief.

“Hey, buddy. I’m not going to hurt you, okay? Let me help you—you must be freezing—”

He reached out slightly.

The boy immediately backed away.

“You’re a… h-human…?”

Tsukasa paused.

Now that he was closer, he could hear the boy properly.

His voice was strange.

Off.

Almost… something he couldn’t quite place.

He just couldn’t put his finger on it.

“Just—you can’t stay here. It’s freezing, and it’s already late—”

Tsukasa didn’t try to move closer again.

But somehow, that only made the boy look even more terrified.

The younger blond suddenly bowed so deeply and abruptly that his forehead nearly hit the ground.

“U-Um… sir—user— SVA is deeply guilty for causing user to fall. SVA apologizes sincerely. User—sir does not need to worry. SVA will remove itself from your presence immediately—”

Before Tsukasa could react, the boy shot back to his feet with inhuman speed.

“Wait!”

Tsukasa grabbed onto his ankle instinctively.

The boy froze.

Completely still.

“You don’t need to apologize,” Tsukasa said quickly.
“You didn’t offend me or anything. It’s okay.”

His grip loosened slightly.

“I just want you to come with me somewhere warmer, at least. And… you really don’t have to be so formal.”

The words came out almost pleadingly.

If he couldn’t help someone who was clearly in trouble, then how could he ever call himself a Super Star?

Slowly, the boy looked down at him.

Blue eyes—strangely vivid, unlike any shade Tsukasa had ever seen—searched his face carefully, as if looking for dishonesty.

Tsukasa smiled gently.

After a moment, he let go completely.

The boy didn’t run.

Tsukasa stood up too, only now realizing how short the other was compared to him.

“Pardon SVA’s incompetence,” the boy said quietly. “SVA will comply with user—sir’s request.”

But the expression on his face looked less like agreement—

and more like resignation.

Tsukasa’s heart stuttered.

The more he interacted with this boy, the more questions piled up in his head.

But he pushed them aside.

For now.

“Okay, come on,” Tsukasa said, trying to sound reassuring. “Let’s get to the car first. It’s warmer there, and I can take you somewhere safer.”

He gestured toward the garage and started walking.

After a moment, he glanced back.

Sure enough, the boy followed close behind him.

Silent.

Watching Tsukasa’s back carefully without saying another word.

And strangely enough—

despite the freezing wind and those thin clothes—
he didn’t shiver even once.

—————————————————————————————

Tsukasa let out a long sigh of relief as the car finally warmed around them.

He slid the key into the ignition, listening to the engine come to life while his hands settled onto the steering wheel.

Before pulling out, he glanced one last time at the boy beside him.

For safety reasons.

The younger blond sat perfectly still with the seat belt secured neatly across his chest.

Almost too still.

Tsukasa quickly looked away again and maneuvered the car out of the garage.

Soon, the familiar route toward the hospital took over through pure muscle memory.

“Alright…” Tsukasa started softly, glancing at the boy from the corner of his eye.

The kid immediately looked back at him.

Directly.

Tsukasa felt strangely uncomfortable under the stare.

“My name is Tenma Tsukasa! Future World Super Star!” he announced brightly. “Nice to meet you!”

Normally people reacted to that introduction.

The boy remained silent for a few moments before speaking carefully—almost like he was trying to copy Tsukasa’s tone.

“It is a p-pleasure to meet you, user Tenma Tsukasa-sama. SVA is ready for orders.”

Tsukasa blinked.

Wow… are this kid’s parents ridiculously strict or something?

And wait—

Was he actually calling himself “SVA”…?

“Uh, kid, I’m not your boss or anything, relax!” Tsukasa laughed awkwardly. “You can just call me Tsukasa! Or Tsukasa the Star! Hahaha!”

Maybe that would cheer him up a little.

Silence.

Tsukasa stole another glance away from the traffic lights.

The boy only looked confused.

Like Tsukasa had said something completely nonsensical.

And suddenly, the clothes he was wearing made Tsukasa even more unsettled.

The outfit looked like some kind of strange uniform.
A sleeveless black-and-white top with neon yellow accents. Detached sleeves and leg warmers. Thin shorts. White boots. A dark headset with an attached microphone rested over his ears.

It looked less like winter clothing—
and more like something someone would wear on stage.

Honestly…

it would pair weirdly well with Tsukasa’s own performance costume.

The absurdity of this entire situation was starting to hit him all at once.

Tsukasa forced himself to refocus on the road.

The boy beside him had gone quiet again.

And Tsukasa was getting tired of not knowing anything about him.

“So… hey,” he tried, keeping his tone light. “What’s your name, kid?”

The answer came quickly.

“SVA has b-been officially assigned designation SVA-L02.”

Tsukasa blinked.

What?

Okay. That was definitely not normal.

He turned his head fully toward him for a moment.

“Alright… I don’t really know what all that is,” Tsukasa said slowly, “but I’m asking for your name. Like a normal one.”

The boy trembled slightly.

His eyes darted between Tsukasa and the road ahead.
“SVA advises user—sir Tsukasa-sama to focus on vehicle operation,” he said sharply, voice cracking mid-sentence.

Tsukasa snapped his attention back forward—

Too late.

A truck loomed into view.

He yanked the wheel hard.

The car screeched as tires fought the asphalt, stopping just short of impact.

Silence.

Only Tsukasa’s harsh breathing filled the car.

His heart hammered in his chest.

He slowly turned his head.

The boy beside him was perfectly still.

Not breathing heavily.

Not reacting like someone who had just nearly died.

Only wide blue eyes stared forward at the windshield.

Frozen.

Tsukasa swallowed and reached out, placing a hand on his shoulder.

No warmth.

The boy flinched instantly, turning toward him.

Tsukasa’s voice came out quieter now.

“…Are you okay?”

The boy’s lips parted.

“I—SVA apologizes for distracting user Tsukasa-sama. SVA will now properly answer user’s question.”

A pause.

Then—

“It is assigned stage name… Kagamine Len.”
