Work Text:

Me and my Husband

Queenie was starting to get very, very worried.

There were these..."Abstractions" as Caine called it, hostile creatures with hundreds of bright, colorful eyes. And when you go crazy, when you...lose your mind, you turn into one. A haunting thing to witness.

There were 7 people in this..."circus". Or, at least there were 7. There was a tall Labrador, or- Golden retriever, she really couldn't tell, named Scratch. he was a genius. But he was, unfortunately, the first abstraction.

A worm on a string, a dinosaur, a short creature with a jester hat, and a small blue dog. One by one, they all began to lose their minds, turning into dangerous monsters. And soon, it was just her and Kinger. And Caine of course...

She lets out a deep, tired sigh. Soon, she would be next... Losing her memories, all of the things she has seen, her body... All gone. Forever.

Soon, she starts to see an assortment of colors, it was nauseating, yet...somehow, calming. A loud noise fills her ears, almost like static, it was too loud, Everything was...

"Queenie?" Kinger said. Making her snap out of it. She hated that name...Queenie. She wanted her real name, with her real body, she wanted a real life..

"...Yes..?"

"How are you?" He asked.

"Just...great." a small hint of sarcasm heard at the end.

He let out a small chuckle at that. Even in the darkest times, she was still a bit funny. That's what he always loved about her... "We both know that isn't true..."

Her expression turned from blank, to a slightly sad one. Kinger noticed this and quickly says, "Hey." He puts his hand on her shoulder, rubbing soothing circles on her back, "Remember, no matter what...whether we have a disagreement, an argument... when one of us has a bad day... I'll always be there for you."

He continues, "There are people who care about you...Even Caine! And of course, me. We'll be sticking together.... Forever. "

"Whatever you say darling."

"Come on, i bet Caine has a nice adventure for us today..." He dragged her along by her hand, leading her to the stage.

"Hello! my little scarlet robed queen, and tall white chess piece!" Caine announced, Queenie chuckled at that. "Today's adventure is..." He starts, "STARGAZING!!"

"Stargazing?" Queenie muttered, slightly confused by the change in adventures.

"THATS RIGHT, You will be sent to a place full of constellations, Fireflies, And sandwiches!!!" Fireflies peaked her interest, this actually seems like a nice adventure...

He spawns a colorful, swirling portal, and lightly pushes the two chess pieces inside.

----☆☆☆----

Inside, The grass swayed ever so gently as the manufactured breeze hit them, giving it quite a strange sense of realism. The fireflies danced in the moonlight, the sandwiches almost looked real...Almost.

It reminded her of how much she had missed the real world, where she had lots of time to rest, lie in bed and just zone out at her blank ceiling.

Now, adventures would keep her busy, there was no time for rest. Well, in this digital world, there was no need to rest, to eat... Instead of staring at her plain, white ceiling, Caine would get her for the next adventure. Even if she had time, the ceiling wasn't exactly pleasant to look at, with highly saturated colors, difficult patterns, it was quite nauseating.

Still, she would take what she could get, even though it wasn't what she was exactly used to.

She sat down on the picnic blanket, admiring the stars, and making up constellations. The fireflies circled her head, and Kinger's as well, He attempted to lightly swat them away before Queenie managed to get them off him.

"Don't swat them away!" She says playfully as one lands on her finger. "See? They're harmless."

"I suppose you're right." He nervously lets one land on his gloved finger. Its wings flutter suddenly, making him yelp. Queenie chuckles at this. "Nice try." She nudges him softly, and playfully.

"Sorry." He says quietly. "What?" Queenie asks.

"Sorry for getting you stuck here with me." He finishes.

"Darling, we both know that isn't your fault," She begins, "You were testing it, and i got curious. We didn't know we would get trapped here like...this."

"I know," "But i still feel pretty bad about it." Seeing her husband so distraught, she lands a kiss to his cheek. Or, without a mouth, it would just be pressing her face to his cheek.

The stars appeared to get brighter, Caine and The Moon were watching them, that's for sure. "I miss the times when we would dance, just you and me." Queenie said softly.

"Why not now then?" He says.

She chuckles, And holds his hands, lifting him up.

They intertwine each-other's hands, Kinger giving her a small twirl that made her laugh. They danced in the moonlight for what felt like hours, but he really didn't mind, she was really pretty in the moonlight, with such graceful movements, colorful personality, she was really a pretty woman too, he could stare into those brown eyes forever.

They spun, holding onto their hands tightly. They spun faster and faster in the air, never letting go of eachothers hands while doing so. He started to glow, signifying that he was holding his breath. She smiled warmly at him, with the faintest giggle.

God....She really did take his breath away.
