Chapter Text
Kris shivered; it was sooo cold out. It was Halloween, yeah, but why did it have to be so cold? It was one in the morning. Kris had just been wandering for a few hours.
Trick or treating had stopped at ten, but Kris had seen Sans at their house, so they had stayed out. They don't like Sans at ALL. Kris was dressed as a vampire; they had a black shirt with silver and gold accents and blue buttons on it, and black pants that had gold and silver accents on them as well. Their outfit has red paint on it to look like blood.
They are wearing their boots, which are dark brown with silver laces. Kris had put on some fake fangs, which hadn't messed with their braces, which was good cause the braces were annoying enough.
Kris was at the basketball court that connected to the playground and climbed the rock wall, holding their candy bag (canvas with an orange and purple owl on it, saying Happy Halloween) in their teeth. They sat at the top of the rock wall and set their bag next to them.
They hummed happily as they dug through the bag looking for something they could eat with the braces. They soon found a root beer lollipop and unwrapped it, and stuck it in their mouth ‘Yum.’ They thought Kris’s elf ears twitched.
Kris sighed; they don't like Sans dating their mother, and their siblings don't like it as well. Kris pushed their maroon hair out of their face, showing their crimson eyes with gold pupils. They got a hair tie from their inventory and put their bangs up in a ponytail.
Their SOUL beat quicker, trying to warm them up. If there was one thing Kris liked about their SOUL was that it wanted Kris to stay alive. If the SOUL hadn't wanted Kris alive, it'd be bad cause this was the only SOUL Kris had.
Their SOUL had been gone for 9 years cause Dess had it. Kris' SOUL and Dess' SOUL had fused. Kris still didn't know how. No one had noticed Dess' eyes had turned PURPLE for ANGEL's sake! Kris sighed.
Chara and Frisk appeared wanting candy. Chara had brown hair lighter than Frisk's, a gold crown of buttercups, and a heart necklace made of gold. Chara was wearing a green and yellow striped sweater, like Kris normally does, and brown pants. Chara had crimson eyes, and Chara wanted the KitKats.
Frisk has light brown hair and gold eyes, wearing a blue and pink sweater and brown pants. They are holding a stick and want the RingPops. Kris gave them the candy they wanted, and they vanished.
Kris used their teeth to rip the wrapper off a package of gummy bears, then started eating the gummy bears, trying to guess the flavors of the gummy bears without looking at the package.
Their elf ears twitched as they heard stomping footsteaps. ‘Susie.’ They thought. They knew the footsteps. Susie was a bully and a lot taller than Kris. She has purple-black hair and light purple scales. She's a dragon and snorts smoke and fire from her nose. She has a long tail, which swishes a lot, and has long claws that are gold.
She always wears a massive purple jacket. Kris would be invisible in it if they wore it, but they never would cause Susie hates them. A white t-shirt, blue ripped jeans, and massive black boots with gold laces. Susie has gold freckles that look awesome! Her hair is a mess. Kris wants to brush it cause it looks soft, but they know Susie would most likely kill them if they tried, so they don't and just wish they could.
Kris stayed quiet, hoping that Susie wouldn't know they were there. They pulled a Twix out of their bag and unwrapped it, popping it in their mouth and putting the wrapper back in their bag. Kris' nails looked like short claws and were painted orange instead of their normal black, but they had black ghosts on their nails, which looked neat. Kris watched as Susie stomped over to the basketball court, chewing on more gummy bears. ‘Blah pineapple.’ Kris doesn't like that flavor, but they had some orange gummy bears, so that was good.
They had a KitKat. ‘Yummy.’ They thought and then wondered what Susie was doing. Susie had a bag of candy, though it wasn't as full as Kris'. Not that Kris had that much candy. None of the monsters wanted to give Kris that much candy. Or any cause, they were human, and they thought that Kris was a curse or would get sick from the candy.
So Kris had a bag a quarter of the way filled, and that's it. Kris tilted their head as they watched Susie storm her way to the basketball hoop, pick up one of the basketballs, and then throw it at the hoop hard. It swished through the net, the screen on the fence showed 1-0, and made a beep sound. Kris hummed thoughtfully and threw one of their stress balls through the hoop closer to them.
The scoreboard showed 1-1 and made a beep sound. The stress ball returned to Kris' hands as Susie turned, wondering who had scored on the other hoop. Kris had an Almound Joy and tossed the stress ball through the hoop once Susie looked away.
The board said 1-2. Susie turned around again, looking to find who was there, but she couldn't see Kris, who smiled softly, keeping their teeth hidden because they don't like their braces. Susie growled, smoke coming from her nose. Kris wondered when Susie would give up and leave.
Kris would breathe a bit better if Susie weren't here. Susie turned back to the other hoop and threw the ball twice. The board showed 3-2. Kris smiled and threw a Twix bar at the hoop. It counted, and the board said 3-3.
Susie turned again and paused, seeing the Twix bar, she stomped over and grabbed the candy. She looked at it for a second before taking the wrapper off and shoving the candy in her mouth. Kris smiled again. They were probably confusing Susie, but whatever, at least Kris could share their candy with someone, even if the someone had no clue it was Kris.
Susie stormed back to the other hoop, throwing the ball a few times. The scoreboard changed, saying 4-3, then 5-3, then 6-3, then 7-3, then 8-3, then Susie waited. Kris threw the stress ball, changing the board even more: 8-4, 8-5, 8-6, 8-7, 8-8, 8-9.
Susie then tossed the ball and made the score 9-9. Now they were both waiting. Kris didn't want to win and make Susie annoyed, and Susie was just standing there menitcenly! Kris tossed a bag of gummy bears into the hoop, making the score 9-10. “Guest Wins!” Said the scoreboard.
Susie grabbed the gummy bear packages and shoved them in her mouth as soon as she got the wrapper off them. Then, Susie went to her bag, which was just a store bag, and dug through it looking for something. She set something at the hoop and then left after a minute.
Kris tossed their bag of candy down and climbed back off the rock wall, picking up the bag. They walked to the thing Susie had left. It was a bunch of Ring Pops! Cherry, Watermelon, Strawberry! Kris was happy they LOVE Ring Pops! They put the Ring Pops in their bag and headed home.
By the time they got back to the street, their home was on it was 3 in the morning. ‘The ghost hour.’ Kris thought. Dess' ghost appeared, and Kris gave her a pack of Lollipops. Dess smiled and vanished.
Kris headed home and climbed the water pipe and into their window, which they had left unlocked when they had left to go trick or treating hours ago. They could hear music from downstairs.
‘Great Sans is still here.’ Kris thought, annoyed. Kris changed into a green and yellow striped sweater made by TheComfy(TM) and brown pants with tons of pockets. They pulled the hair tie out of their bangs and set it in their inventory, then brushed their hair, put it in a low ponytail, and went to bed.
A few days later. Kris is bored in class, which is annoying, and the only things they are learning are about monster history. Kris is human; they don't need to learn this! Susie was late as always, and Kris didn't care. They could rest easy when Susie wasn't there cause when she was, she always kicked Kris' chair, and even if Kris tattled and told Miss Alphys, nothing would happen.
Every monster was too scared of Susie to do anything. Kris is the only one who isn't scared of Susie, though their SOUL said that was cause Kris didn't have their own SOUL, so their feelings were muted. The SOUL Kris had now wasn't supposed to be here. But it had lost its VESSEL and got stuck with Kris. Though at least Kris could tear the SOUL out of them.
They have a scar from doing it. At least the SOUL cared enough about Kris to keep them alive. If it had wanted to, it could have killed Kris easily. Susie then slammed her way into the classroom, chewing on a lollipop.
"O-oh S-Susie your l-late." Miss Alphys stuttered. "Yeah, and?" Susie said, "Y-you're getting partered w-with Kris cause y-you were l-late." Miss Alphys said. ‘Damm it.’ Kris thought. ‘Now I get to do all the work while Susie sits and looks pretty yay/s.’ Kris set their head on the desk, cursing their luck.
Susie stomped to her seat and sat down. A while later, Alphys said there was no chalk and asked if someone could go get chalk from the closet. Susie got told to do it because, of course, she sighed, but got up and left Alphys, then seemed to realize that having the one monster that never listens do something on her own might not be a good idea, and told Kris to go with Susie.
Kris got up and left the classroom. Susie was still nearby, seeming to guess someone would be sent with her. "Oh great, it's the quiet freak," Susie said. Kris ignored her and kept walking. Susie got ahead of them, and Kris kept following but was slower to look at the posters on the walls.
Susie paused, waiting for them to catch up. "Oh my gosh, do you have to be so slow?! Can't walk without Mummy holding your hand?" She teased 'Is she wanting to hold my hand?' Kris wondered. 'No.' Their SOUL said. 'She is just annoyed at you for being slow.' Kris thought 'Oh. I can't help that.' SOUL answered. 'True, also it does she want to hold my hand, or does she want to hold my hand.' 'Oh.' Kris thought.
They weren't good at finding the right words or saying the words right. SOUL said it was cause Kris had lost their SOUL when they were 5, and their SOUL would have made it easier to talk and find the right words and say them right.
Soon they got to the closet. Susie opened the door it was dark. Kris backed up. They didn't like how dark the closet was. They weren't scared of the dark; they just had a bad feeling about the closet. Susie mocked them for being scared and went inside. Kris was half tempted to close the door on her and see how she liked the dark closet then, but decided against it and went inside.
‘The moss on the ceiling looked like a goat in a hat.’ They thought. The door closed, and Susie shoved past Kris to the door, banging on it and calling to see if anyone would hear her. No one came. Kris took their phone out of their pocket.
It had bite marks on it from when Asriel had first given it to Kris, and the case was battered and had stains from Butterscotch pie mix on it. The case was a dark purple. Kris turned it on and called Mom. She didn't answer.
Susie snatched the phone from Kris and called again, but it didn't work. "Who's Asriel?" She asked, "Brother. Not answer, School, Far away." Kris said slowly. They guessed that was another thing their SOUL would have helped them with. "Damm it," Susie said. She gave Kris back the phone they looked at it. The home and lock screen was of them when they were younger, making a Butterscotch pie with Noelle.
They thought about calling Noelle, but doubted she would answer the phone, and then the phone died. "You couldn't have charged it before leaving?" Susie demanded, "You couldn't have brought your own?" Kris replied and was amazed that they had said the whole thing right.
SOUL was proud of them, which made Kris happy. "Mom will come at class done," Kris said. SOUL said that wasn't the right words, but it made sense, which was good. Kris found the wall and sat down. Susie muttered some choice words about Kris and then sat down as well, kicking Kris' leg by mistake. At least Kris thinks it was a mistake, but Susie didn't say sorry, and Kris didn't trust their words to say that Susie had kicked them.
SOUL said that if Kris gave them control, they would get Susie to realise that she had kicked Kris’s leg. Kris didn’t see the point. They knew that Susie wouldn’t care. And she might get madder if SOUL tries to say anything.
SOUL doesn’t seem to see the point in not saying anything. Saying that Susie will just keep being mean if Kris doesn’t say anything. Kris doesn’t care. Knowing that Susie will get madder regardless of what Kris does.
Susie then threw something at Kris. “Stop muttering, freak. You're annoying enough when you don’t talk.” Kris is confused; they hadn’t realized that they had been muttering, and they thought Susie didn’t like that they didn’t talk, so why is she mad that Kris is talking?
‘What did she throw at me?’ Kris wondered, looking at the thing. ‘It looks like the rags of a towel.’ SOUL mumbled. ‘Weird towel.’ Kris thought. ‘Agreed.’ SOUL said. Kris pulled their notebook out of their pocket and started drawing.
Half an hour later, Kris had a pretty good drawing of the closet and themselves and Susie stuck in the closet. It was just in pencil because that’s how they draw on paper, and there isn’t any color, which sucks cause Susie deserves color on her pictures. She looks pretty, the pictures should reflect that!
SOUL muttered something about dumb teens with no idea about feelings. Kris wanted to know what that means. SOUL said it didn’t matter. Kris accepted that and went back to their drawing. They were still doing the shading on Susie, making her look cooler.
Kris decided that once they are home and have their colored pencils, they want to make a picture where Susie has a massive axe and is a warrior! And gets called the best fighter in the kingdom of… What should it be called? The kingdom of Amygdala’s! ((Got that from a Ghost and Pal song that I’m listening to as I make this 🙃🤣.))
“Oi! The hell are you doing?” Susie said. Kris glanced at her through their bangs, confused by what she meant. “Drawing?” They said, puzzled. “You keep staring at me,” Susie said. “Quit it.” ‘Oh.’ Kris thought. ‘Wait, how does she know when I’m looking at her? My bangs hide my eyes.’ Kris is confused, but they stopped looking at Susie at all, just focusing on their notebook and drawing.
“What are you drawing?” Kris is surprised by that question; they hadn’t been expecting it. Didn’t realize Susie even cared. “Nothing,” Kris said. They didn’t want Susie to know they were drawing her. “Uh huh. It’s definitely nothing if you're reacting like that.” Susie said.
“It’s nothing, just drawing a flower I saw yesterday.” Kris lied. not looking at Susie because they knew their face was turning pink. They hate it when people know they are drawing them, and they only ever let people see drawings Kris made of them after the drawings are done.
Susie growled. “It isn’t nothing if you're reacting like that freak. Just tell me what it is.” She said. Kris shook their head. ‘Can’t let her see it! She’ll get mad at me.’ Kris thought nervously. Susie got up, stomping over to Kris. And snatching the notebook from them.
Kris froze and then got up, hitting the spot on the wall that opened the bookcase on the other side of the wall and letting Kris out. Kris then bolted, scared of Susie’s reaction to the drawing of her.
Meanwhile, with Susie.
Susie was looking at the hole in the wall that led to the abandoned classroom. It wasn’t a hole as in broken, it was a hole as in someone made a secret doorway to get from the closet to the classroom. She then glanced at the notebook still in her hand.
‘Oh…’ It was a drawing of the closet and Kris and Susie in the closet. Susie looked cool in the picture. There were written notes on the right page with info on how to draw Susie and make her look cool. Susie was kinda surprised that Kris had drawn her and made her look so cool.
Now she kinda felt bad about bullying such a good drawer. Damm it. Susie is gonna have to say sorry, but she isn’t good at saying sorry. Or being nice at all. She’s just a mean brute, as everyone says.
Kris was hiding in their room. They had put their phone on the charger and left a message for their Mom saying that they were home and not to worry about them. And asking if next time she goes to the store, can she get marshmallows?
Kris lay face down on their bed, staring at their phone as they waited for their Mother to reply. It took a few minutes, but then she responded, saying she can get marshmallows, but Kris can’t eat all of them at once. Kris gave a thumbs-up and shut off their phone.
