The Dark Cacao Kingdom was colder than usual this evening.
For Dark Cacao himself it was nothing that he couldn’t deal with. After all he had dealt with even worse cold when he took on the two dragons during his adolescence. The blizzard that he was certain was coming was nothing to him.
He just hoped that the residents of his kingdom were all somewhere safe when it finally hit.
Sighing the king turned away from the window he’d been looking out of and continued making his way through the citadel.
There were still some things that he needed to do before he could turn in later.
The walk to his room was long and quiet. No guards, aids, or any other resident of the citadel crossed his path as he moved. It was strange, though he could only assume that it was because they were busy elsewhere.
That was until he began walking past his son's room.
A foreign smell invaded the king’s nose, making him stop and sniff at the air in confusion.
It was sweet, sickeningly so. The smell honestly reminded Dark Cacao of the Pure Vanilla Kingdom after a fresh rain. And that didn’t make any sense. Why was he smelling that all the way out here? All that he should be smelling was the snow that covered the land year-round, and the bitter bricks that made up their home.
He needed to find the source.
Dark Cacao didn’t bother waiting after he knocked on his son’s door, instead opting to open the door without any hesitation.
The unknown smell hit him in the face with full force.
It was both nauseating and familiar, enough so that he grimaced as he looked around the room only to be horrified by the sight that greeted him.
There in the furthest corner his son, the prince, could be seen curled up with his head buried in his knees. A quickly and poorly made nest sat beneath him, partially destroyed by what the king could only assume was frustration.
It was a horrible sight, and yet it was something that Dark Cacao should have seen coming. The teen was an omega like his father after all. It was only a matter of time before he experienced his first heat.
Lucky for him he was in a far better situation than his father had been when he’d first had his own.
“Dark Choco?”
His son didn’t say anything, instead opting to bury his face even further into his knees as he let out a whine that could barely be heard.
Dark Cacao didn’t bother closing the door as he made his way into the room, instead opting to leave it open while he headed over to his son. And once he was close enough he dropped to his knees, and pulled his son into a hug. There the teen jolted and whimpered before letting out a long whine as he grabbed onto his father.
That was all that the king needed.
Without saying anything he stood up, lifting his son up in a bridal carry as he did so. And from there he made his way out of the room.
Dark Choco for his part whimpered some more as he shifted within his father’s arms.
“Easy now,” The king said as he made his way towards his own room. He would run his hand through his son’s hair, but that wasn’t possible right now. Both of them were needed to hold the boy.
Fortunately the walk to the king’s room didn’t take long.
Opening his door was difficult with his hands full, but Dark Cacao managed. Closing it meanwhile was easy as all he had to do was push against it with his back. And once it was closed all the way he headed further into his room.
He didn’t go to his bed. Instead the king made his way towards a nest that was hidden away in a nook.
The nest wasn’t anything amazing. It was just some ratty blankets and pillows that had gone flat from constant use. He was sure that in the eyes of many it wasn’t anything like a proper nest, but he hardly used it enough to care about the condition of the items in it.
It was just something he never picked up due to the nomadic lifestyle he’d had growing up.
Perhaps he should start putting effort into having an actual nest though. Especially if he wanted to make his son feel more comfortable.
For now though it would have to do. He just hoped that some of his own scent still lingered in it.
Dark Choco let out another whimper as he was lowered into the nest though he didn’t let go of his fathers clothes. That made what the king wanted to do difficult. He had planned to lay his son down before changing into some sleepwear, but now that wasn’t possible.
So he shifted so that he was sitting in the nest with his son resting his head against his father’s chest. There he rested a hand against the teen’s back while the other ran its fingers through the prince’s hair once more.
Dark Cacao wasn’t sure how to comfort his son beyond this point. He’d never had anyone help him with his own heats growing up.
Was there even a way to make it easier for his son?
Sighing the king rested his back against the wall behind him and turned his head to look at a nearby window only to have his view filled by the fluff lining the top of his cape.
And that had a thought popping up in his head.
He moved away from the wall and used one of his hands to unclasp his cape. From there he positioned the cape so that it was lying over his son like a blanket. Hopefully it smelled like him enough to help the boy relax.
Until then he went back to comforting him.
Relocating the cape had apparently been the right idea.
Swaddled in his father’s scent Dark Choco settled down, and eventually his breathing evened out.
And that was enough for the king. Shifting once again he rested his back against the wall and looked down at his son as he continued to run his fingers through the boys hair. This was a temporary fic, but it would have to do until he learned of other ways to help.
He just hoped his son’s first heat didn’t last too long.
