Mydei was happy, truly, in the big, important way people meant when they talked about happiness. He didn't really need much to feel like his life was worth living, after all he had already suffered enough, and even trapped on the exotale, every day was as good as it could possibly ever be.
Now, despite all the good things that have been happening, there was a particular one that stood out more than the others, not that his parents and friends being alive was something lesser than all. No, it’s because it was a really big change in his life. One that sometimes made him question if he was even allowed to have it all: Phainon, the Deliverer himself, was now his husband.
A loving, maddening, infuriatingly handsome husband.
When everything was said and done, Mydei hadn’t thought twice about accepting Phainon’s proposal, he simply said yes. Why wouldn’t he? After dying thirty million times without ever daring to imagine a future of his own, there was no point in hesitating now. Even if they had all the time in the world, there was no use wasting it anymore.
But the thing was, at this exact instant of his life, none of that mattered. Because Mydei was actually miserable.
The kind of misery that came with being too full everywhere. His breasts were sore and heavy, swollen enough that every movement reminded him of their weight. Milk leaked steadily through the loose fabric of his robe, dampening it in twin crescent moons right across his chest. And to help even more his situation, the baby inside his belly had decided to be a menace just like his father and kept shifting like a really overexcited little puppy, ruining what little patience Mydei had left.
And to top it all off? His dear husband was late.
It wasn’t actually a problem, per se. Phainon had his reasons, and all of them were noble. Between helping on his family’s farm and working to piece Okhema back together, the man barely had a moment to breathe, especially now that Mydei wasn’t able to help. So Phainon tended to be late because helping people was simply part of his nature, and usually, Mydei could find it in himself to be patient. It was hard to stay angry at someone so genuine and inherently good.
What was not fine was being late when Mydei thought it really mattered. Like right now! The prince was beginning to think the only real solution was tying the Deliverer to the bed, just so he’d always know where to find that infuriatingly beautiful man.
First light had come and gone, and the sun now hovered low over the trees beyond the courtyard of their house. He’d paced, sat, paced again, tried to squeeze his thighs together, cursed and then got mad at himself for being too damn needy. He’d even tried relieving himself with his fingers, but it wasn’t enough. What he craved right now was the real thing, and nothing else would do.
For that reason, he lay sprawled across the bed with one arm draped over his face, robe completely undone. His belly rose round and heavy above his hips, his breasts bared and leaking down his sides as he simmered in a sweaty and overstimulated misery. The prince looked thoroughly ruined, exhausted, and absolutely ready to kill someone.
Right at that moment, footsteps echoed outside the door, followed by the soft creak of hinges as their chamber door opened. His irritation was so profound that Mydei didn’t even bother lifting the arm draped over his face.
“If you’re not Phainon, get out.”
“Good news, then,” the man in question said with a chuckle, his voice soft and calm.
Mydei peeked out from beneath his elbow as Phainon slipped inside, shutting the door quietly behind him. He looked windblown, dust clinging to his clothes and his hair completely wild from the dromas ride he probably took back home. Somehow, the man still looked unfairly handsome, as if the titans themselves had personally refused to let Phainon have an ugly moment. Then again, he was Phaino of Aedes Elysiae, of course he looked good.
The deliverer’s eyes softened when they landed on Mydei and then instantly darkened with hunger when he finally took in the scene right before him: Mydei’s flushed skin against the tangled sheets, the half opened robe stained with milk and the heavy curve of that beautiful belly. A heavy silence settled between them before Phainon finally spoke. “…You didn’t wait for me,” he murmured, sounding oddly like a deflated puppy that hadn’t gotten his treat.
The prince scoffed incredulously, gesturing his arms around in distress. “You, sir, were late.”
“I told you there were some matters I needed to attend,” Phainon countered, his mouth tugging into a fond smile as he crossed the room.
“And you also told me you’d be back before I even noticed you were gone!” Mydei snapped.
Phainon reached the bedside and braced a hand on the mattress, leaning over his prince. “I’m sorry, my love. I came back as soon as I could. You know we're still quite busy getting everything back to its proper order.”
That endearment always did something to Mydei’s poor heart, but even so, he turned his head away and pouted. “You don’t look nearly guilty enough.”
A warm hand settled over his stomach as Phainon’s voice quieted, soft and full of love. “I missed you. Both of you.”
The tension in Mydei’s whole body dissipated the moment those words left the other's mouth. He let out a shaky breath and pressed his lips together, but he made no move to push the comforting hand away. He wasn’t that petty.
“Youre leaking,” Phainon murmured, brushing his thumb across a swollen nipple until the milk beaded under his touch.
Mydei hissed and swatted his hand away. “Thanks for pointing out the obvious. And don't touch if you’re just going to comment.”
“I wasn't." Phainon bent slowly, unhurried, and pressed a kiss to the side of Mydei’s belly. Then another. And another. One hand cradled its curve, his thumb stroking the taut skin where the baby kept kicking. “They missed me too,” he whispered.
He leaned up and kissed Mydei's chest, just beneath one nipple, before trailing another kiss directly onto the aching peak. His tongue flicked out to catch a droplet that escaped, causing Mydei to let out a loud gasp.
“Phainon –” His voice was ragged now. “I swear to the Titans, if you tease me –”
“I’m not teasing, my prince.” Phainon mouthed around the nipple slowly, taking it in with reverence. The milk welled, and he swallowed it immediately, groaning softly. “So sweet, I could live off this,” he muttered, voice thick. “So perfect for me.”
Mydei flushed, his ears burning with embarrassment. “Don’t say weird things while you’re – ah – drinking it.”
“You love it,” Phainon growled, suckling harder. “Your body’s begging to be emptied.” He continued slowly, his hand rubbing broad strokes over Mydei’s stomach as he drank.
Mydei tried to squirm, but the sensation was too much. His thighs twitched open and his breath quickened with every slow mouthful. He let out a low groan when Phainon whispered against his skin, “You don’t have to hold it in anymore. I’ve got you.”
Phainon moved to the other dripping nipple, the pressure unbearable. The moment his mouth wrapped around it, Mydei’s back arched like a bow. “Titans! Fuck, Phainon, I’m going to –”
“I know,” Phainon murmured against his skin. And still he drank, eyes half-lidded and unfocused, devotion so heavy it felt tangible. He handled Mydei with a reverence that bordered on worship, as though the prince himself were something sacred, carved from marble and meant only to be adored.
Mydei shifted restlessly, a hot flush spreading down his neck. He was half ashamed of how quickly the slick was soaking into the sheets beneath him, the cool dampness contrasting sharply with the fever burning under his skin. His hips rolled desperately for friction, his entire body burning under the weight of Phainon’s attention.
“This is your fault,” he gasped, fingers knotting into the sheets to anchor himself.
Phainon pulled back just enough to look up at him, visibly delighted by the accusation.
“And you love me anyway,” he murmured without a trace of shame then leaned back down, his warm mouth catching a sensitive, aching nub, suckling just enough to draw a sharp whine from Mydei’s throat.
Only when Mydei’s hands found his hair did Phainon lift his gaze again, eyes warm and searching, entirely captivated by his husband growing a life inside of him. He settled a large and warm palm gently near the round belly, letting the heat of his hand seep through the half-open robe. “Can I touch you?”
Mydei rolled his eyes, trying to hide his own breathlessness, his thighs trembling against the mattress. “You’re already halfway to making me cry,” he choked out, his voice cracking with a mix of frustration and desperate need. “Do it already.”
Phainon knelt between his thighs and parted them carefully. His fingers dipped through the heat-slick folds, and a low, gravelly groan caught in his throat.
“You’re soaking,” Phainon rasped, his thumb sweeping over the swollen lips of his cunt. “Fuck, Mydei... you’re so ready for me.”
“I’ve been like this all day,” Mydei whispered as his head rolled back against the pillows, fingers blindly reaching out to claw at Phainon’s shoulders.
“Then let me give you what you need.”
Phainon hooked his hands under Mydei’s knees, hoisting his legs up onto his shoulders to tilt his pelvis back and expose him completely. Leaning in, he pressed his mouth to the aching heat, dragging one slow, agonizingly reverent line from the entrance all the way up to his clit.
“You’re – fuck, Phainon, gentle – you're being too gentle – ” Mydei cried out, his hands burying into his husband's wild hair to try and pull him up.
The alpha paused, looking up from between Mydei's legs, his face flushed and his eyes burning gold with absolute possessiveness. “Then tell me how you want it.”
“Just – fuck me. Now,” the prince begged, his hips trembling, utterly undone by the ache. “Knot me. I need it.”
Phainon unfastened his cloak and let it fall to the floor, his shirt following a moment later. His cock was already hard with want, the thick knot visibly starting to show, but he still took his time. He climbed over Mydei slowly, his large frame cradling the swell of the stomach between them as he pressed a lingering kiss to the damp center of the prince's chest. Then, without breaking eye contact, he aligned himself and pressed in.
The stretch was deep and sudden, making the omega cry out, his fingers clawing desperately at Phainon’s shoulders while his thighs clenched hard around the man’s hips. “Fuck – oh, Titans – Phai – don’t stop! ”
“I won’t,” Phainon promised, his voice a low growl. Every thrust was deep and fiercely possessive, yet he never let the weight of the belly shift unsupported; he cradled it, kissed it, and praised it while driving into him with a firm and steady rhythm. “You’re my pretty omega, so fucking full with our baby.”
“Shut up,” Mydei gasped, though his actions betrayed him completely as his hands dragged Phainon even closer, his hips tilting up to beg for the friction.
Phainon buried his face against Mydei's ear, his breath hot and demanding. “Look at you. Milking me, dripping around me – Titans, Mydei, I need – ” He grunted, his words cutting off as his thrusts became shorter, harder, and rougher, his carefully guarded control finally beginning to snap.
Mydei was right on the edge, the pleasure turning into a sweet torture. His fingers locked tight around Phainon’s neck and his back arched entirely off the sheets. “I can’t – Phainon – I’m gonna – ”
“Come for me. Milk me,” Phainon commanded, driving in deep and holding himself there, pinning Mydei down. “I’ll knot you so deep, no one will ever doubt who you belong to.”
Mydei cried out as he finally broke, slick gushing, his nipples spraying again as his body locked tight around Phainon in a series of rhythmic tremors. In response, the knot began to swell, thick and brutal and final. Mydei screamed at the sudden stretch, sobbing from the sheer intensity of the fullness. “Yes – yes, gods – don’t pull out – ”
“Never,” Phainon groaned, pinning him down with the heavy, comforting weight of his body as the connection anchored them together. “Gonna fill you so full, there’ll always be a pup inside you.”
They rocked through the aftershocks together, the thick knot keeping them hopelessly bound while the sharp edge of the climax slowly melted into a warm haze of pleasure and ache. Phainon cradled his mate close, his large hands anchoring Mydei's hips as he kissed every inch of flushed skin he could reach. Deep inside, his cock pulsed in slow, steady waves, emptying himself into the omega and sealing the claim.
When the frantic heat finally subsided, they lay there together in the quiet room still joined, their breaths tangling in the space between them.
Phainon shifted slightly, burying his face in the crook of Mydei's neck before sliding up to press a soft, lingering kiss to his jaw. “The pregnancy is making you more irritated,” he teased, his voice still a whisper, “but I know you still love me.”
“Maybe,” Mydei let out a soft huff, his fingers lazily tracing the edge of Phainon’s shoulder. “But don’t push your luck, boy.”
Phainon smiled against his skin and slid his hand down. He settled his palm back over the gentle curve of Mydei’s belly and brushed warm and soothing circles with his thumb against the bare skin.
“You hear that?” He looked up at Mydei with a grin before glancing down at their baby, murmuring with pure affection, “He said maybe.”
Mydei huffed out a laugh, breathless and ruined and painfully aware of how loved he felt.
“Shut up, Deliverer,” he muttered, giving Phainon’s chest a weak, half-hearted smack. “You’re going to make me horny again.”
“That’s the plan,” Phainon grinned widely, an unapologetic look on his face. He was still buried deep inside Mydei, the heavy knot anchoring them together. His hair clung damply to his temples, and his eyes were dark with lingering emotion, softened now by quiet satisfaction. The chaos of the moment had faded, leaving only warmth and the steady rhythm of their breathing.
Mydei, however, was already feeling the familiar drag of exhaustion. It crept in slowly, made heavier by the weight in his stomach and the heat still pulsing through his body. He was far too comfortable to even think about moving.
“Well,” he slurred, pressing his face into Phainon’s collarbone, “your plan is stupid. It involves me being very, very tired. And very, very sore.”
Phainon hummed softly, hands roaming with practiced care over Mydei’s sides: his ribs, the swell of his breasts, skin that felt too sensitive. The alpha’s thumb caught gently under a milk-crusted bud. “No, my love,” he said quietly. “My plan involves you feeling good.” His touch softened even further, massaging the tender breast under his palm. “And it involves making sure you’re comfortable.”
He lifted his head then, and Mydei met his gaze. Titans, that look. The one that split him open every time. Fierce and gentle at the same time, overflowing with reverence, all of it gathered into a beautiful pool of blue and gold.
“I know you’re miserable,” Phainon admitted, voice a low rumble. “I was late when I should have been here.” His eyes traced the faint stretch marks that bloomed across the omega’s body, unable to contain his softening expression. ”I know you’re extremely uncomfortable right now, and that every single thing feels like too much” He swallowed. “But you are the most beautiful and miraculous thing I have ever laid my eyes on. And I swear, Mydei, I would drink the entire ocean dry if it meant easing your body and mind.”
Mydei’s breath hitched and his eyes burned instantly, warm moisture threatening to spill from his eyes. He hated how easily Phainon could turn him into a puddle, that loving bastard.
“Stop,” he whispered. “You sound like a romantic idiot and I’m going to cry.”
“Let me be an idiot for you, then.” Phainon shifted carefully, hands slowly reaching down to unbind his cock from Mydei’s soaked body. The sudden internal release made the prince whimper, his hands tightening reflexively in Phainon’s shoulders.
The alpha pulled Mydei carefully into a tight embrace, their damp bodies immediately sticking together. He pressed a warm, deep kiss into the golden tumble of his omega’s hair and covered both of them with the blanket.
“Sleep, my prince,” Phainon murmured, sliding an arm beneath the curved belly, supporting its weight as he shifted them onto their sides. Then, he tucked Mydei’s back firmly against his chest, his body a solid, immovable barrier. “I’m here now. I’ll make sure you get everything you need.”
“What about the council meeting tonight?” Mydei mumbled, already drifting to the dream world, pain dulled by the warmth of his mate and the sheer exhaustion of his own body.
“Castorice and Hyacine have it handled. I gave them enough scrolls and material to keep everyone occupied for a week,” Phainon replied with a blinding smile, his voice a reassuring vibration against Mydei’s ear. “The Deliverer is off duty. For you.”
Mydei sighed a long and quiet sound of surrender. He didn’t have the strength left to argue or even feign annoyance. He was safe, held fast by the infuriatingly beautiful man who had ruined his solitude forever. His entire body still ached, but now it was a sweet ache, wrapped tight in the certainty of a bond stronger than anything else in the universe.
He was happy, truly.
And in this moment, finally, utterly content.
