Chapter Text
"That chemistry class is going to be the death of me," Kirishima sighed, his body dangling off the side of his bed. It was finals season. That time of the year where students across the nation weigh two options: dropping out or thugging it out.
"I think you'll be fine," Denki responded, looking up from his phone and at his friend who was currently a mess. Denki had no sense of urgency and it didn't look like he would be studying anytime soon. They both shared the same chemistry class. Unfortunately, neither of them had begun studying.
Denki got up from his place on his bed and walked over to plop himself down next to Kirishima.
"I have something we can do to pass the time though," he adds mysteriously. Kirishima groans, but pushes himself up to sit closer to his friend, waiting for his next move.
"Have you ever heard of Omoggle?" he asks with a smirk, his fingers working quickly to open the website. Kirishima shakes his head and scoots closer to his friend to get a better look. His eyes felt heavy and, sure, he was on the verge of sleep, but he wanted to stay awake for a little bit longer to see what Denki was talking about.
Denki opens the website and before Kirishima could blink, a random man pops up on the screen. Kirishima looks at Denki with confusion as weird green lines pop up on his friend's face. Denki seemed familiar with this stuff so Kirishima decided to trust him on whatever he was doing. Quickly, he started making weird face motions that made him look more chiseled than he actually was and all Kirishima could do was laugh. The man on the screen began cracking up too, leaning away from the camera to catch his breath.
Kirishima didn't understand what was going on and it didn't seem like Denki was going to explain anything either so he chose to watch whatever his friend did next. A green text popped up on his screen and Denki shouted, "I won!" laughing to himself as another person showed up just a few seconds later.
"What are you doing, dude?" Kirishima chuckled, raising a brow. Before he could get a response though, the phone was shoved into his lap and his face appeared on the left side of the screen. He looked over at Denki who just motioned him to stare at the camera for a few seconds. Kirishima chose to do just that since he didn't exactly have a choice.
"Why are kids on this fucking website?" the girl on the right side of the screen giggled.
"Kid? I'm almost 20 years old," Kirshima smirked and held the phone closer to his face to see if the angle could change his appearance.
"Right," she responds and a few second later red emerges on the screen.
"Aw, you got mogged," Denki laughs, but Kirishima is still confused.
"What are you even talking about?" Kirishima turns to his friend for clarification and Denki smirks mischeviously. One thing about the idiot sitting next to him was that he had a curse. Bad things followed him whenever he did something stupid and right now Kirishima was feeling the presence of the curse.
"Okay, so, you're randomly paired with someone on here, right?" Denki asks to see if Kirishima is picking up the pattern. He nods and Denki continues, "So you have 15 seconds to see if you mog them or if they mog you," he finishes as if that cleared anything up.
"You know what mogging is, right?" Denki laughs as he notices the confusion still stuck on Kirishima's face.
"Uh yeah," Kirishima pauses, "I know what that is," he shrugs, but before Denki could say anything more another person pops up on the right side of the screen.
They both whipped their heads towards the phone and immediately it felt as though a sunbeam had hit them in the face. Kirishima squinted at the man on the screen, processing the beauty infront of him.
"Thats all you bro," Denki whispers and moves Kirishima closer into the camera to face the man on his own. Kirishima looks at his friend and makes a slicing motion with his hands, mouthing the words, "bro no," and "what the fuck."
"Chat this guy is so scared," the other man chuckles under his breath and stares deeply into the camera as the timer ticks down at the top of the screen. Kirishima is confused on who the guy is talking to, but chooses to look at the screen as well.
It was as if the man had an aura around him; a bright outline that highlighted his image. Kirishima knew he stood no chance against the stranger. He braced for the few seconds that the timer had left. As it ticked, Kirishima attempted to copy Denki's face motions he was making previously in hopes it would save him. He wouldn't be mad if he got "outmogged," of course. He'd only loose a little bit of confidence since it was obvious the other man was some sort of lookmaxxing deity that Kirishima stood no chance against.
It was whatever.
Or he thought it was whatever until green appeared across the phone signalling Kirishima's victory.
"Yoooo," he laughed, but the other man wasn't having it.
"How the fuck," the blonde exhaled, a hand running down his forehead. Denki shook Kirishima aggressively in a form of congratulations.
"Fuck you, this site is rigged," the man spat, but he was nowhere near done.
"You think you won, but you really didn't with your ugly ass," he continued, "You and that fucked up cut, yeah, and fuck your friend too!"
Kirishima was covering his mouth and trying not to laugh to aggravate the dude even further. That guy was not normal. No way he was losing his shit over a stupid website. Denki was cracking up in the background, rolling across the bed and holding his stomach so he didn't explode.
Kirishima quickly tapped on the screen to exit out of the website as the man on the other side of the screen continued to spew his hatred towards him. His blood was rushing and he felt like he had just pissed himself which was probably 80% true. His eyes scanned the screen frantically as he finally closed the site and threw the phone across the bed.
"Bro, what the hell was that?" Kirishima tried catching his breath. There were a lot of weird people on this planet, but Kirishima hadn't met such an odd guy. Yeah, the website was probably rigged and he had no idea what the rules were for "mogging" people nor how the site chose who won, but it wasn't really a big deal. Apparently, some people took it more seriously than others did.
So maybe Kirishima didn't study for an exam he definitely needed to, but he had an experience he could reminisce on in the future.
Once the two of them caught their breaths and calmed down a bit, they decided it was time to call it a night. Kirishima slept comfortably that night even though he would be in for a treat the second he walked into that exam room the next day.
Well, that was for future him to worry about.
When Kirishima woke up Denki was already gone. His bed was made for once in his life which was really out of place for him, but Kirishima didn't feel like questioning it. He rubbed his eyes and felt around his bed for his phone. When he finally found it, he opened it and saw 10 notifications from Denki.
Denki: [Dude that crazy guy on Omoggle is lowk hella famous]
That was the only text he saw before shutting his phone off. It didn't hit him that hard since he was still half awake and had a test in a few minutes which meant he had to get ready. Maybe Denki meant a microcelebrity on Instagram? Kirishima had a fair amount of followers on that app too, but he wouldn't consider himself anything. Maybe an influencer at most.
He dragged himself out of bed and made his way to the bathroom. Staring at his face in the mirror, he noticed a few pimples had disappeared and his hair didn't look as fried as it usually did. Maybe Denki's curse was actually a blessing?
It's until Kirishima finishes his shower and gets ready that he sees another text from his friend with an attachment. He decides to open it and sees that Denki was not lying. He wasn't even exaggerating.
That guy was very famous.
He had more than 10 million followers on twitch and around 30 thousand subscribers. Kirishima wasn't dumb. He knew that guy was 100% a big shot.
Kirishima: [yooo wtf]
He searches up the guys username on the internet as any normal person would and his jaw immediately drops. The guy wasn't just famous. He was basically a celebrity. He had too many interviews to count, a bunch of collaborations, and tons of articles on him. Besides that, he had a bunch of videos on him including meet and greets with fans. How Kirishima hadn't heard of him? He didn't know. He must've been living under a rock or something.
But above all, there were so many edits. There seemed to be a range of fans of this guy. Some of them looked like hardcore dude bros that just loved men, but the other group of fans were definitely head over heels for this…Dynamite guy? There were thirst trap edits and some other interesting things as well as reddit threads Kirishima felt like he shouldn't scroll through.
Kirishima closed his phone and decided he'd look more into the whole thing later. He finished getting his things and made his way out the door.
The day went pretty normal. Nothing seemed off and it didn't look like Denki's curse had gotten him…yet. He took his exam which didn't go well (as expected). Afterwards, he decided to catch a drink at the cafe down the street.
He needed something to soothe him after bombing that test and a caramel frappe was calling his name. After ordering, he sat down outside and scrolled through his messages, reading all the ones he missed. Just a moment later, a call from none other than Denki appears on his screen.
Kirishima sighs, but of course he answers it.
"Dude, you gotta see this. Open TikTok right now," he demands out of breath. It's been about 4 hours since he had found out about Dynamites media presence, but only 5 seconds when he finds out that his most recent stream had gone viral and Kirishima was in it!
"What?!" Kirishima fixes his posture in his seat and looks deeper at his phone as if looking into the screen harder will change what he's staring at on his phone.
"I know! I knew you'd go big one day! I mean, I didnt think that you had anything going for you on Insta, but look at you now dude!" Denki shouts and Kirishima doesn't acknowledge the backhandedness.
He can't stop looking at the screen.
"You should watch his stream bro. The comments are totally frying that guy. He's so mad," Denki laughs, "I think he's active right now."
Kirishima doesn't even hesitate to find the stream and open it. When he does, it was as if the timing had lined up perfectly.
"Chat. I'm telling you. That shit was so rigged. Guys-guys you know what? You know what? I'm gonna find that guy and get a rematch. Yeah. Chat, find the guy so we can have a redo 'cause that was so fucking fake," Dynamite says into his microphone. As soon as he does, the chat goes wild and people are searching for Kirishima immediately.
Somehow, they find out his socials in record time and Kirishima is already getting notifications from random people saying, "Hop on Dynamite's stream" and "We want a rematch."
"Denki, what do I do? His fans found me," He whispers into the phone, worried that someone around him is going to harass him too.
"I dont know, join his stream maybe?" Denki suggests with no care in the world for what's happening right now.
"This is big! You could go big!" His friend is on another planet clearly and Kirishima is weighing his options and the best way to go about this. He's just an average guy, even he knows Dynamite is on a whole other level of beautiful. This must've been part of Denki's curse. Now he's being forced to talk to that guy again. As if cussing Kirishima out wasn't enough, now he wants a rematch?
His head was filling to the brim with thoughts and all he could do was stare at his screen while Denki shouted at him to join the stream. Kirishima's eyes moved to the chat box and before he knew it, his username was everywhere. He had no clue what he was about to do, but the urge to find out was driving him. He hung up on Denki and told him to wait for him at the dorms.
He made his way to his car and waited for Dynamite's next move. The man looked intrigued as the chat began spamming "ADD HIM." The look on Dynamite's face was full of deviousness and Kirishima didn't like whatever he was brewing up. He looked out of his car window, making sure nobody was actively lurking around and hunting him down.
He was scared. Scared as hell.
"Should I add him chat?" The man asks as his eyes look elsewhere. He seemed preoccupied with searching for something. Whether that was Kirishima or something unrelated, he didn't know. On the other hand, the chat box was buzzing and people were eager to see Kirishima.
He felt a beat of happiness in his heart from how much people wanted to know who he was. It made him feel slightly seen and a little excited. He always wanted his own fanbase, not as big as Dynamites, but a size he could communicate with whenever he felt like it. The traction he was gaining from this situation was a bit more than he would've liked, obviously, but he wasn't opposed to participating.
Kirishima suddenly gets a request from Dynamite to join the stream and his blood freezes. Now that it was actually happening, the reality of everything started to hit him. His life would probably never be the same after this. Who knows? Maybe he could drop out of college?
A few seconds later, Kirishima is added. It's quiet at first as he adjusts his camera so his entire face is in frame. He sees the chat is still going crazy and Dynamite is waiting for him to finish messing around with his phone.
"…Hi," Kirishima's voice cracks and he can see how Dynamite fails to hide his smile. Kirishima's face is pink all over and he already wants to leave this mess.
"Hey," the other man starts, "You're Kirishima?" he asks. He can tell that Kirishima isn't familiar with him with the slight shock on his face. Dynamite expected him to be squealing or overly excited, but all he got was a squeak.
"Yeah," Kirishima responds. He tries to fix his bangs a little, realizing how many people were probably recording this moment.
"Okay…Kirishima, we need a rematch 'cause that shit last time was not real," he begins. Kirishima didn't think he was being serious at first until he saw how the man's demeanor wasn't changing. He felt personally attacked from Dynamite's words. Sure, he wasn't as pretty as him, but he wasn't that ugly...
"Really?" Kirishima laughs a bit, not caring about how passionate the other man was about this. He didn't understand why a website needed to determine his beauty. If someone put the two side by side, they'd see pretty clearly that one was more striking than the other. Kirishima liked games though, so he chose to play along.
"Yes really," Dynamite responds.
"Why are you so obsessed with me bro?" The words were casual at first, a simple tease to the other's ego. But Kirishima quickly realized he shouldn't have spoke that sentence as his eyes flicker over to the chat box. Everyone starts sending question marks and messages that suggested the two were closer than people thought. Maybe a bit too close…
"Excuse me?" Dynamite asks, but it was too late. The damage had been done and Kirishima wouldn't be able to erase this off the internet.
"I mean, we can battle again if you want, I'm just wondering," Kirishima smiles awkardly trying to save this situation. Within seconds, a donation appears on Dynamites screen saying, "You got something to tell us?"
It was clear the blonde was trying to ignore the chat and whatever his fans were spewing. His eyes squinted and he rubbed his face as he tried to figure out what to say next.
"Shut the fuck up chat," he shouts and aggressive typing can be heard in the background. Kirishima can see the view count of the stream going up rapidly and he wonders if what he said might've been a good thing. That thought is quickly thrown out the window as edited images of him and Dynamite began appearing in the chat box.
He raises a brow, his eyes scanning the many messages people are sending of the two, hinting at a possible relationship between the both of them which seemed very far out of proportion, especially for someone Kirishima had just met.
"Come on shitty hair, let's go," Dynamite catches Kirishima's attention with the insult to his hair, but he chooses to leave it alone. He types in the Omoggle website and waits for Dynamite to add him to a battle.
This was definitely a weird use of Kirishima's time, but sometimes he needed a side quest. He'd probably look back on this and laugh so he continued following along. He hadn't had this much fun in a long time and he was in need of something to make him smile. Dynamite wasn't a very cheery guy, but he certainly was entertaining.
15 seconds appeared on the top of the screen as the two started the mog battle. Kirishima prepared himself mentally for whatever the outcome was. Part of him was hoping he lost just so the Dynamite guy could leave him alone. But another part of him was hoping he won so this act could continue a bit longer. He wondered how long this could drag out and what would happen to him if he did win. Would Dynamite rematch him again? Would he send hitmen to kill him? Kirishima stopped theorizing as the time ticked, focusing on the screen intensely.
"You're going down asshole," Dynamite muttered, but before he could say anything more, a green screen appeared on Kirishima's screen. His eyes grew wide and his heart started beating at a rate that definitely wasn't normal.
"Are you fucking kidding me?" the blonde shoved himself away from his camera and stood from his chair, slamming his headphones onto his desk. Kirishima jumped at the reaction and looked over at the chat box. He saw people congratulating him and complimenting him on his looks. Kirishima blushed at some of the messages, but they quickly began slandering Dynamite and making fun of his reaction.
Kirishima agreed, it was really over the top. The streamer must have some sort of anger issues to be making such an outburst. Kirishima couldn't help but laugh.
"What's so funny to you? You think this is over? I'll flame your ass, just you watch," Dynamite shouted, grabbing his camera to face Kirishima directly. There were memes being spammed in the chat and weird sounds coming from his donations.
Before Kirishima could say anything else, he's kicked from the stream. He's just as dumbfounded as he was last night as he processed what had happened.
He exits the app and opens his social media apps to see that the clips of him in Dynamites stream were already being spread across the internet. People were reacting to it and making videos talking about everything as if what happened was revolutionary. Kirishima saw the clip of Dynamite crashing out already blowing up and he couldn't help but chuckle to himself. It felt wrong finding humor in someone's anger, but the man was so over the top that it was hilarious.
He decided he'd call Denki later about this, assuming he hadn't seen anything yet.
When Kirishima arrived back at the dorms, he was already beat. Denki had been waiting for him on his bed and as soon as Kirishima closed the door, Denki was all over him about the stream.
"Dude! Did you see your follower count on Insta? You gained like 40k!" Denki exclaimed. He looked like he had 15 energy drinks.
"Oh, yeah I hadn't checked that yet," Kirishima responds while he kicks off his shoes.
"There's already edits of you guys all over TikTok too, you're like…trending right now," Denki opens the app to show Kirishima several videos he had saved. There seemed to be a popular depiction of the two going around. People liked the idea of seeing Kirishima and Dynamite romantically. It didn't bother him, but it seemed like quite the stretch.
"This is crazy! He's probably gonna hit you up for another match again," Denki chuckles and moves back over to his bed.
"You think this is the start of something insane?" Denki asks, more excited for Kirishima than Kirishima was himself.
"Maybe, but all his fans have my information now so I don't think I can stay hidden anymore," Kirishima rubs his neck and sits down on his bed. It would be nice if he could get some money out of this, but as of right now all he had was weird TikTok edits circulating.
"This is actually so stupid," Denki laughs, scrolling through his phone as he likes a bunch of videos on the current situation.
Kirishima shakes his head and opens his phone to go through the numerous notifactions he was currently getting. His popularity was only going up and it was kind of scaring him seeing so many people finding his social medias. He was getting texts from his other friends asking what the hell he was doing.
Suddenly, he sees a notification pop up from someone who had more followers than the average person. In fact, he looked like he was another popular streamer. These people just kept finding him, huh?
"Some guy called Sero just sent me a DM request," Kirishima said and Denki jumped.
"Some guy? Some guy??? That's not just some guy! Kirishima, bro, that guy is like the king of streaming," Denki explains as if that was helping Kirishima understand any better. He was far from familiar with the streaming universe and he didn't know the rankings of any of these people.
Denki moved over to Kirishima's side of the room and grabbed his phone, opening the message.
Sero: [Hey dude! Saw ur stream w Dynamite, I was wondering if u wanted to collab on a vid I'm making soooon? Lmk and I'll fly u over!]
Kirishima shakes his head. This had to be a joke. He was just an average guy so why were people so obsessed with him?
"You'd be flying over to Miami, Florida," Denki takes forever to blink which scares the shit out of him.
"Yeah, no," he responds, attempting to take his phone out of Denki's hands only to be met with resistance.
"You're going! Exams are over! You have all summer to get your money up and this is your chance dude!" Denki begins typing a message to Sero and Kirishima struggles trying to get the phone back.
"What are you talking about? I don't have the money for that!" Kirishima shouts, but it was already too late.
Kirishima: [yo thats crazy! I'm so down!]
"I didn't say that," He says and Denki shrugs.
"You kinda did."
