Chapter Text
Ever since Green had stepped onto the Skeld, they've been unbelievably anxious about their place on the ship. This is just too good of an opportunity to mess up! Everyone in their life had given something, if not everything up for them to get here, so they better make it count. First impressions are the most important kind, after all! So, even when they get introduced to the one and only Captain, along with getting a chance to fly the ship, they don’t get too pressed about how White takes the steering wheel right from under Green. Even after the asteroid hit the ship and ruined everything, which was totally White's fault, along with a gross gooey alien squirming into their visor and what felt like setting their insides on fire, they didn't say anything.
Sure, the newly found blood lust and murderous intent was strange and at the very least scary, they couldn't find the courage to say anything. But when they got to the point where the thirst turned more towards a hunger, well, not many would miss White anyways. They were a stuck up prick who bossed people around, making everyone feel as if they were some lowly servants to them, even the Captain! Green thought that the hunger would be over after that weirdly satisfying yet remorseless act, but the parasite kept whispering a weird impulse under their fur. And they quickly realized that by the time Blue dragged them away to get a scan they really couldn't let it get out that they had not only withheld a very scary truth, but put a crewmate in direct danger because of it. Everything their village ever gave for them to be here would be thrown out the window, just like a worm on an I-90!
Nevertheless, one dead crewmate could be chalked up to a whoopsie, two dead crewmates had to have some sort of reason, and Green still liked Blue, Green still liked everyone! The one exception really was just White, but even then Green knows they should feel bad, even if they don't. All this has lead Green to two options, either steal the scans, which could possibly just lead to everyone being scanned again, which Green wouldn't love to do, or they could somehow, someway, convince Blue that there was nothing wrong with them, and even if there is, it's all Hunky Dorey!
... Green doesn't know if they can do this whole ‘secret alien’ thing. As they pace around the corner of electrical, they debate and debate and debate. Orange was doing pretty good at not killing anyone compared to Green! They also seemed to even be enjoying being a crewmate! And so even if Green feels this strange urge and new found squishy-ness to be unnerving, they will hold it in. But as they stop pacing for a moment, they realize there's no other time than now to do something about the scans, fully becoming aware of the corner they’ve backed themselves into by keeping this all a secret.
Green walks to the vent and crouches down, lifting the top as quietly as they could, and peaks inside. From studying some of the blueprints, Green knows that this vent will lead to one of two places, either the medbay, the desired destination, or the security room, where Purple would very noticeably find them and probably club them to death with a flash light. Green shivers at the thought of all the possible things that could go wrong, yet still finds it hard to feel any such remorse for their actions. As they get ready to lower themself down the vent, they feel their body twitch and contort, unraveling and stringing itself back together at the same time, forming something new and more fleshy than the soft exterior of the crewmates ever felt.
Green slithers into the duct, worming (hah) their way to the medbays entry point. It's still a tight squeeze despite their contortions, but they manage to not bump or mess up too many potentially important ship facilities. Green stops, surprised that they even care at all about the integrity of the ship full of crewmates he wants dead. The fact they wouldn't necessarily be able to kill them directly and also probably die from the same malfunctions was kind of a hindrance to their plans, definitely not because they didn't want to be berated by a cranky engineer for gunking up the vents. That's totally why. And before Green could come to any other kind of scarily crewmate-like conclusions, they reach their destination, right above them is sitting the gateway to being an unassuming, totally real and normal unpaid intern.
