Summary:

The rain came down in torrents, droplets sliding down my office window like the tears of Fódlan's people that never stopped. And never would while the Nabatean Party remained in office. They had a hand in everything, pulling strings from the shadows, turning us all into puppets.

Work Text:

The rain came down in torrents, droplets sliding down my office window like the tears of Fódlan's people that never stopped. And never would while the Nabatean Party remained in office. They had a hand in everything, pulling strings from the shadows, turning us all into puppets.

I wasn't expecting anyone to come in through the downpour, so the knock on the door surprised me… though not nearly as much as the woman herself. Byleth Eisner strode into my office, all long legs and toned muscle, and that empty gaze that made people in the business call her the Ashen Demon.

"Detective Hresvelg." Her eyes, a deep cobalt-blue snared me.

A roll of thunder set the lights flickering, casting the room in jagged shadows for a brief moment. "That's what the name on the door says." I didn't have time for games, not with someone who might be working for the Nabateans.

               "I need your help."

               "Is that so?"

"Yes." Eisner was unfazed—no surprise there if her reputation was anything to go by. What she said next, though, fazed me more than a little.... "Someone is trying to kill my father."

Some days you just can't catch a break.
