The Set Up

Summary:

Another part of my 'Inkling' series.

Set before Hannah and Garrett break up, Garrett is trying to set Logan up on a date. And some people might have some feelings about that idea.

Notes:

Happy with the love the previous installment got, I hope you enjoy this one.

The serious isn't a sequential order thing. I do have ideas on how to do the 'Call Dean' scene moment, so maybe I will do a few of these and then maybe do a everyone finding out they are dating moment as a sequel series?

Anyway, enjoy.

Work Text:

John Logan was doing his best. It wasn’t easy when the girl you’ve been pining for, thinking maybe if I can figure out all this other shit I can be good enough for her to give me a chance.

But that isn’t how it works. And now, well, now his best friend was dating Hannah Wells.

He should be happy, his friend, who has been through so much shit, and has come through the other side with someone that, well, makes him feel how he wants her to make him feel.

Which then leads us to one of the most awkward moments of John Logan’s life.

“I don’t get why you won’t say yes”

Garrett Graham is trying to set him up.

If you had asked him a year ago, hell, last semester, he would have been fine going on a double date with Garrett. But now is now. And he doesn’t.

“I’m just not looking for anything serious right now”

“Neither is she!” “I don’t think it’s a good mix, you know-”

Thank God! Logan had never been happier for an interruption and hearing the door swing open and Tucker, Dean and Beau all enter. They’re all drenched in sweat, so there goes the hope that he can run away with the hope of a work out.

“How’s it going?”

“It all burns so good” Beau exclaims, sitting on a stool as Dean clambors for the seat next to him.

Tucker makes his way to the fridge. Pulling out an assortment of in progress foods and ingredients for protein shakes. God, what a provider.

“I just don’t get the issue here” God, Garrett would not drop this.

“I dunno man, I just don’t see the point, if we both aren’t looking for anything then this seems like it could only go badly. For everyone”

“What we talking about?” Couldn't've Dean waited till after chewing his food to say that.

“I am trying to get Logan out of the house for once”

“You’re manipulating things”

“And you’re avoiding things”

“What are these things?” Beau interjects, gleefully.

“These things are Allie”

With that the conversation seems to halt. A feeling of tension goes through the room but only two people in the room could tell you why.

“What about Allie?” Dean trying so hard to tiptoe along the line of curiousity and concern.

“I’m trying to set Logan and Allie up. It makes sense! I’m dating Wellsy, Wellsy has best friend, I have best friend. We think our best friends should date”

“I don’t see it” Everyone whips to stare at Dean.

“What do you mean?” “What makes you say that?” Garrett and Logan in disbelief while Beau uses his food as a way to hide his delight in what is happening.

“Not really sure they have a lot in common to be honest”

“Which one is Allie?” Tucker interjects, forcing the conversation to move away from Dean, in relief.

“Wellsys best friend, roommate, she’s been around before. She came to Dean and Beau’s party, she cames as Jennifer Lopez”

“Ah, so that’s what it is, Dean’s still trying to get in her pants” Well, that didn’t last long.

“What’s he talking about?”

“Hold on, we danced, that was it”

“Yeah, cause she curved your ass”

“But I’m not saying any of this because of that. I’m saying this because, in the time I have spent with her, I don’t think her and Logan are exactly, what a relationship makes”

“And you would know a lot about relationships, would you?”

“I know enough to know they wouldn’t work”

“He’s right, G. Like, seriously, I’ve said, I’m not really looking for anything serious-”

“And neither is she!”

“Okay, but even if that is the case, do you not think it’s weird to try and set us up, what if I was? What if she actually is? Dude, you’re probably better off setting her up with Dean”

“Yeah, no” Garrett turns his gaze to Dean “Stay away from her”

“What? Why?”

“Because I know you, I love you. But I don’t want you getting mixed in with my relationship”

“I could date her”

“You could fuck her, sure. But then you will overpromise, get her caught up in ‘The Life of Dean’ and then you’ll move on while she gets stuck” Dean recoiled at that.

“Got it”

“What she needs is someone that is fun, cool, can maybe do more, but is chill. And that is my guy right here.”

“Oh, just blow each other already” Beau, who suspiciously has a comforting hand on Deans back, pipes in.

“Thanks for the thought, G. Look, I’ll give it some thought, no promise. But I’ll think about maybe going on a date with your girlfriends friend, no double though. I ain’t up for you seeing the secret sauce”

Logan wiggles his eyebrows and makes his way up to his room.

It isn’t until much later that his reprieve his interrupted.

Everyone has gone out, or so he thought. Dean knocked at his open door.

“You got a sec”

“Sure, what’s up?”

Thinking Dean just wants a drinking buddy or someone to go out to ‘assist’ him in his usual mission, when, to think about it, he hasn’t been going on many excursions lately.

“I wanted to ask you a favour”

“Give me another half hour to work on this and then I’ll go out and I will be the best wingman you can hope for”

“Thanks for the offer, but, not what I wanted to ask”

Weird, since when has Dean turned down going out. In fact, why was Dean now opting to sit down on Logan’s bed, usually he would be yanking and pulling him down the stairs by now.

“Before I get into it, I just want to state at the top of this, that you owe me one, a big one. A favour with absolutely no questions asked or, you know, I can tell everyone about the thing

“We said we would never discuss that”

“I said I wouldn’t ask or tell anyone, but, that is really up to how you handle this request”

“Fuck, what is it?”

“It’s about what we were all talking about earlier, with, Wellsy’s friend”

“Allie? What about her?”

“Well, you said you would give the whole date thing, some thought. I’m telling you to think no”

“I’m sorry?”

“No problem. Just saying, don’t date her”

Was Dean being territorial?

“In fact, maybe when Garrett comes back, you say you talked to her and she isn’t ready to go out with anyone yet with the whole Sean stuff”

Sean, who the fuck was Sean? How did Dean know who Sean was?

No!

Dean wasn’t being territorial, he was being jealous

A cheshire grin started spreading its way across Logan’s face. But Dean noticed immediately.

“No questions, no one must know I asked you this”

Logan swallows down the merciless teasing he wanted to bring down. God, who knew Dean could get jealous. So many girls had tried, but this was something no one had ever got the chance to see before.

Too bad Logan was always a man of his word.

“No problem bro”

“Really?”

“I thought you said no questions?”

“Awesome, love ya man”

Dean got up and sped out of the room like the floor was hot coals. Not bearing to spend a second in this moment. Logan wanted nothing more than to ask a million questions, settling on Dean must have had his sights on Allie, but he hadn’t usually had a problem with being ‘Eskimo brothers’ with anyone. In fact he usually would be gleeful about the prospect. This was something else. But no questions asked, means forget about it.

And that’s what Logan was planning to do.
