Work Text:
Ava
Lucy was his best friend, soulmate, love of his life and partner. She made the whole world brighter for him. She made everything seem like it would be okay, even if it wasn’t always okay. They had been through so much together and faced challenges together. He knows that there is no one else for him.
No one.
No one in this world.
Which is why he knew from the moment Lucy told him she was pregnant that she would be a good mom. He knew from the minute that they started buying everything. Ava’s pregnancy wasn’t hard per say but it was the first and they both didn’t know what to expect. And that was fine because Tim was right there taking care of her.
And then Ava was born, and it opened up a whole new Lucy. It was like she was wearing her heart outside her body. Ava was everything to her. Her heart and soul.
Everything.
He loves watching his wife and daughter. And of course he would help out in anyway possible but—
God.
She was such a good mom. One that would do anything for Ava, and of course him. He would put himself in front of a bullet for his wife and child but that was besides the point.
There was just something about Lucy as a mom. It made her look softer, it peeled away from how her own mom treated her. She has this look about her now, and it was gleaming and glowing.
It was beautiful.
***
Ava preferred Lucy when she was sick. She was a daddy’s girl otherwise but when she didn’t feel well. It was all Lucy, Tim didn’t mind unless he was the only one around and he had to console a screaming baby who just wanted her mama.
“Shhh.” Tim says rocking the baby back and forth it. “Mama just went to pick up your medicine baby.” Ava’s lip wobbles. She’s 7 months, she’s not walking or talking yet but she has personality.
She usually doesn’t cry, and she’s usually happy. So it’s weird for Tim to be holding her and not being able to calm her down.
Lucy volunteered to go get the medicine because she was on the way home anyway. Tim picked Ava up from daycare and it just all went south.
It’s like she got sicker as soon as Tim picked her up.
He hates seeing her in pain. He hates seeing her sick.
“Mama will be home soon baby.” He whispers. He sits down and cradles her like he did when she was a newborn. “Mama will be home soon.”
Lucy comes home 15 minutes later, and as soon as she’s in Lucy’s arms she’s calm.
And he realizes that’s all she needed. She just needed her mama.
***
When Ava is kidnapped, it’s a nightmare. Tim’s not sure if he has ever seen his wife so… broken. He can’t seem to bring her comfort even when they are alone. When they get the video of Ava crying out for Lucy. Tim’s not sure how much more he can take.
When they find her, Lucy is the one Ava goes to and he doesn’t mind. He is just happy his baby is safe but then Ava doesn’t want Lucy out of her sight.
It’s hard the first few days and weeks even but Tim gets it. Ava is only two, and she has trauma that will haunt her for the rest of her life.
It’s two months after Ava is kidnapped and rescued. Ava has been getting better with the nightmares. But she had a rough day and night. Tim wakes up to her crying, and since Lucy is pregnant and tired Tim gets up.
He walks into Ava’s room, and her face falls when she sees him. “Mama.” She cries. “Want mama.”
“I know Ava.” Tim says walking over and picking her up. “Mama is asleep.”
“Want mama!”
“I’m here.” A voice says behind them. Tim turns around to see Lucy, and she walks over and takes Ava out of his arms. She walks to the chair and sits down. The toddler is instantly calm. Tim looks at them both, and Lucy tilts her head at him.
“What?”
“Nothing.” He says. “You are a good mom. You have this magic about you.” Lucy hums softly and presses a kiss to the top of Ava’s head.
“I try.”
“You are doing a good job.” He reassures her. He’s not sure it could get better than Lucy. Ava adores her and he is sure their second daughter would too.
“She’s asleep.” Lucy says. Tim nods and watches as Lucy gets up. She hesitates when she stops at Ava’s bed. And then she backs away and walks out of the room.
Tim sighs softly, he’s not surprised that has been happening a lot lately. Ava in the middle of them.
He follows them out and turns the light off. When he gets to the bedroom, Ava is already snuggled into the bed.
Lucy really did have that mom magic, and he thinks he falls for her more and more everyday because of it.
He really loves this little life of theirs. Mom magic and all.

Daisy:
When Daisy is born, it’s the same when Ava was born (he did pass out this time but not from the birth but his own stupidity.) but Lucy is on it, not only is she doting on Ava but she’s also doting on him.
“You really are an idiot for not getting checked right away.” Lucy says as she changes Daisy’s diaper.
“I know.” Tim says and he does feel like an idiot. They rolled him off, and he barely got to see his baby girl.
(His own fault—yes he knows).
“It’s okay though.” Lucy says and she holds up the baby. Daisy looks more like Lucy than Ava did. Daisy has some of Tim’s facial features but her hair is darker, and from what he can tell her eyes are like Lucy’s. “Look what we got out of it.”
Tim smiles a little and moves closer. “Can I hold her now?” He asks. He had been taking it easy but he wants to hold his little girl. Lucy hands her over and Daisy fusses and then settles down.
“She’s perfect.” Tim says.
“I agree.” Lucy replies. Tim looks up at her, and he is amazed that they have these perfect little girls.
They made it.
“You have the best mama ever.” Tim whispers to Daisy. “She is the best.” Daisy coos a little. He looks up at Lucy and she is smiling.
The mom magic was still there. And it would only get better.
***
Daisy likes Lucy. She adores Lucy, she likes Tim too and there’s no doubt she would be a daddy’s girl but she loves Lucy.
She would be a koala to Lucy whenever possible which made Ava be a koala to him. Ava loves her little sister but it was definitely a adjustment period.
Tim loves to watch his girls with Lucy. Especially Daisy, and he knows that bond will only get stronger.
“Daisy is a lot calmer than Ava isn’t she?” Angela asks one day. Tim nods and looks over to see Lucy holding the five month old. The baby is calm, like staring up at Lucy calm. Ava never really did that. She was too curious to sit still.
“Oh yes.” Tim says. “They are total opposites which would happen to us.” Angela laughs a little.
“Yes but it will be good for Ava. Daisy is the calm to her storm.”
“True.” Tim says. Angela studies him for a second. Tim turns his attention back to his daughter and Lucy.
“I’m glad you have them. Lucy too. She is good with them.” Angela says.
“I agree.” Tim says and he has never heard a truer statement. “I agree.”

Tim is surprised when he finds Lucy in Daisy’s room the night before her 1st birthday. She is looking down at the baby sleeping in the crib. Tim tiptoes in and puts a hand on Lucy’s shoulder. She jumps a little and then relaxes when she sees Tim.
“Hey.”
“Hi.”
“What are you doing?” He asks. Lucy turns to look at him, a soft but almost sad smile on her face.
“She’s almost one.” Lucy whispers. “I wonder if it ever gets easier.” Tim gently pulls Lucy from the room and then shuts the door.
“I don’t think it does.” He says and he’s also feeling things about their little baby turning one. She was so much different than Ava. But she was growing up just like Ava was.
“She’s so sweet.” Lucy says. “Before she fell asleep, she told me she loved me.”
“She does.” Tim says and she imagines Daisy saying it in her tiny voice. “We all do.”
“I know that.” Lucy says.
“I barely got a goodnight out of Ava.” Tim grumbles. “You must have the mom magic or something.”
“You keep saying that. But you have it too. I mean the girl dad effect.” Lucy says. Tim laughs a little and he knows he has that (or that’s what Lucy tells him) but Lucy definitely has the mom magic.
With Ava and Daisy.
“It’s different with you.” Tim says. “They want you when they are tired or sick. They want you when they just need to reset. You just have a special touch.”
Lucy smiles and leans up to kiss him. “Yeah.” she says. “I guess I do.” Tim nods and then leads her to their bedroom.
Their 2nd baby girl was turning one tomorrow and they needed to rest. And there was no place he would rather be than with Lucy.
And tomorrow would be about Daisy, and he couldn’t wait to celebrate her. It would be so, so good.

Levi
Lucy is a good mom, an amazing mom to Ava and Daisy. When they found out they were adding two more, they both panicked a little but he knows it was just from the shock of expecting twins.
And then they found out one was a boy, and the other a girl. They have the girl thing down. It wasn’t always perfect but it was familiar.
Tim was freaking out about having a son for his own reasons. He didn’t realize that Lucy was worried too.
“I can’t believe I’m going to have a little boy.” Lucy says one day as they are unpacking all the stuff they got from their baby shower. It was double the stuff, and on top of that there was also a lot of blue.
Blue onesies. Dinosaur onesies. Shark onesies. There were matching pink ones for their baby girl of course. Tim’s not even sure if Lucy plans on dressing them matching.
“I know.” Tim says. “It’s crazy right? He holds up a blue and green blanket.” Lucy doesn’t reply after a few minutes. He looks over and sees her sitting against the dresser.
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing.” Lucy says. “I only know girls. I don’t know anything about boys.”
“I’m a boy.” Tim says cheekily. Lucy glares at him, and he holds his hands up.
Not in the mood for jokes.
“It’s just how different is it going to be?” Lucy asks. “He’s a boy. We—”
“You will do great with him.” Tim says. He’s worried about how he’s going to handle having a son, it’s not that he’s not going to love him.
He will.
So, so much.
“You will be a great dad to him.” Lucy says. “I know that. I mean look at our girls. It’s just—”
“And he’s going to be a mama’s boy.” Tim says. “It’s going to be different but we will figure it out babe.”
Lucy nods and he kneels down in front of her. “We will figure it out.” She says. “Together.” Tim nods. Absolutely they would figure it out together.
Together.

“Your son loves his mama.” Angela says. Tim looks over at Lucy and Levi. The little boy is curled up in her arms. It’s amazing he’s not crawling off of her.
“He does.”
“He’s a mama’s boy.” Angela says. “It’s a good thing to have.” Tim nods in agreement. Levi attached himself to Lucy right away. He really did calm down when Lucy held him. He was 7 months now, and very active but as soon as Lucy held him.
“He doesn’t do that with me.” Tim says. “There’s just something about Lucy.” Angela just smiles at him.
“She’s a good mom.” Angela says. Tim nods in agreement, yes. Yes. she was a very good mom.
A very good one indeed.

Levi gets hurt at daycare, and doesn’t want anyone but Lucy. His daycare teacher tells Tim that he keeps saying mama. So Tim makes sure that Lucy is the one who picks him up. Tim is waiting for them at home.
“Is he okay?” Tim asks. Lucy gives him a look, and he knows Levi is just being dramatic. He just wanted his mom which Tim doesn’t blame him. Sometimes he just wants Lucy too, and honestly that’s how him and Levi are alike.
They both love Lucy.
A lot.
She just has that mom magic, that magic touch that does something to Levi and all their kids really.
And he is so, so thankful for it.
He’s so thankful for Lucy and their little family. Their kids. Everything about their little life he’s so grateful for.
He’s grateful that Lucy is on his team and by his side because there’s no way he could do this without her.
***
Lucy is more of the strict one when it comes to discipline. Tim is tough, but he’s also a little hesitant. He doesn’t want to come off cruel like his dad did. Levi is the one to get in trouble at school, whether it’s because he’s standing up for his sister or he did something reckless.
“Levi climbed a tree at school today.” Lucy says coming into Tim’s office.
“He got exercise.”
“They weren’t suppose to climb the trees and sit on a unsteady branch Tim.” Lucy says. “Come on, we have to go get him.”
They get to the school and find Levi waiting outside the principal’s office. He’s swinging his legs back and forth it.
“Levi.” Lucy says sternly. “What were you thinking.” Tim takes a step back and watches. Even when she’s stern, she’s gentle. She just has a way about her. Maybe that’s why it feels like she’s tougher.
“It was fun!” Levi says. Lucy shakes her head and bends down in front of him.
“It was dangerous buddy. And reckless. What if you had fallen?” Lucy says her voice still stern.
“I have nine lives.” Levi says cheerfully.
“That’s for cats bud.” Tim says from behind Lucy. Levi just shrugs.
“I’m sorry mommy. I’ll only do it at home.” He says. Lucy blows out a breath but she seems satisfied.
“Go on and get your stuff Levi.” Lucy says. Levi scampers off and Tim turns to look at Lucy.
“You have that touch even when they are in trouble.” He says. Lucy manages a smile, a exasperated one but a smile.
“He’s a good boy. He just doesn’t use his brain sometimes.” She says.
“True.”
“I might have the touch but we have to think of some kind of discipline for him.” She says.
“Okay.” Tim says as Levi comes back. Lucy takes his hand and leads him out of the school.
She really does have that mom magic.

June
Tim watches Lucy with June, as she carefully changes her diaper. Their youngest daughter and child was a tiny little thing. She’s the one that almost gave them a scare before she was born. She was one of the reasons for the emergency c-section. Tim is changing Levi’s diaper, but his son is not happy being away from his sister.
“You got it?” Tim asks Lucy from across the room. “Your boy is not happy about being away from his sister.”
“They just spent nine months together.” Lucy says giving Tim a smile. “They will be okay.”
“Hear that Levi?” He asks his son. “She said you will be okay.” He finishes changing the diaper and then puts Levi’s onesie back on. Levi just stares at him, a somewhat angry look on his face.
Across the room, Lucy is walking around with June cradled in her arms. June is calm as can be and nothing makes Tim happier than seeing Lucy with their kids.
Their babies.
She definitely still has mom magic.
***
“I can’t believe you have four kids.” Angela says. They are at home, the twins are already 3 months old.
“We got two this time.” Tim says. Wesley is holding Levi, and Lucy is right next to him with June. The other kids are playing on the ground. Tim honestly can’t believe they have four kids sometimes.
It still surprises him.
“She’s doing good with two at one time?” Angela asks. Tim nods, it had been rough for awhile but they got through it. It was a lot going from 2 kids to 4 kids. Plus Ava and Daisy still needed them.
“It’s been a little challenging.” He admits. “But we are getting there.” Angela nods and Tim can’t take his eyes off of Lucy and June. The baby is fast asleep in her arms, and Lucy is just talking to Wesley. She lost some of her spark after the twins were born but she was getting it back little by little.
She was still so good with the girls and the twins. She did make sure Ava and Daisy were getting enough attention. He would of course make sure to take the girls out so they could get out of the house but Lucy would make sure to spend time with them when the twins were sleeping.
And he loves her so much for it.
She was such a good mom, and it made everything so much easier. But they were a team and a good one at that and that’s all that matters.
***
Tim loves watching Lucy with their girls. She just seems to bring the best out in them. June, has been especially clingy lately. She is always attached to Lucy, it makes the first day of kindergarten hard.
It makes separating her from Lucy even harder when she goes to an overnight camp. She is with Levi, but of course they are in separate cabins. Lucy is worried sick as they drop her off.
“It’s going to be okay baby.” Lucy says. “You will be with Levi all day okay?” June’s lip trembles.
“Don’t leave.” She cries. “Please mommy.” Lucy turns to look at Tim, a desperate look in her eyes.
Tim knows what she’s thinking and he’s thinking the same thing. But they have to do this. June’s therapist said it would be good for her. She couldn’t be by Lucy’s side 24/7.
“Baby,” Lucy says. “It’s one night. You have your favorite lovey. You have the letters we wrote you.”
Tim looks over at Levi who looks upset. He technically didn’t have to come but he wanted to for his sister.
(Also he didn’t do good without her either).
“No. I want to sleep in my own bed.” June says. Her brown eyes are filled with tears.
“I know Junie. But this will be good for you.” Lucy says. She gives June a hug, and then steps back to where Tim is. Levi goes to stand by his sister.
“Mommy.” June cries.
“I love you both.” Lucy says. Tim puts his hand on her back and turns her around.
“I love you both too.” Tim says. “Have fun!” He leads Lucy back to the truck. He hears June crying and Lucy’s shoulders are shaking a little.
“Luce.”
“I know. I know. It’s just hard. She’s so little.” Lucy says.
“She’s six. And this will be good for her.” Tim says. Lucy nods and opens the truck door.
This would be good for her.
June would be okay.
***
June does fine at the camp, but when she runs into Lucy’s arms he knows she’s been waiting for that. It’s like it was all worth it just to see her mom at the end of it. Tim understands the feeling, when Lucy gets hurt or he gets hurt or they are in danger. It’s just the thought of seeing his wife and kids again that makes it worth it.
He can see it on Lucy’s face too, and he knows this was so hard for her. She barely got any sleep last night because of it.
She is so loving and so amazing. She would do anything for him, and their kids. She has that mom magic that June clearly missed.
“Hi daddy.” June says running up to him. Tim scoops her up making her giggle loudly.
And whether it was mom magic or the girl dad effect or glow. They had it all and that was worth everything.
