Work Text:
After a long day chasing around a pack of vampires a few hours from the bunker, team free will was exhausted. The vamps nest had been a difficult one, just as they thought it was done one more sprung out.
After grabbing some appropriate snacks (popcorn, 4 beers and a massive cherry pie) Dean had immediately gone to his room, flopped down on his bed with the memory foam mattress (a fact he was very proud of) and picked up the Tv remote from his bedside table. A click of a button Turned the tv on, it still amazes Dean how they have any wifi in this place.
He goes onto Netflix, clicking his profile that instead of having his display name be ‘Dean’ it’s actually Jimmy Page. He puts a hand behind his bed, crosses his outstretched legs and flicks through the dozens of Tv shows without much catching his eye.
He ends to stopping on a Tv show called ‘Heartstopper’, normally Dean would scoff and move on, romcoms really weren’t his cup of tea. And there is no exception to that rule.
But he’s bored, and Theres not much else to watch, so he clicks on it. The opening credits play just as theres a hard knock at the door, Dean immediately recognises that it’s Cas, Cas always knocks the exact Same way whenever he enters a room. “Yeah?”
The room creaks open, Cas enters the room, hands by his sides awkwardly. He still has a split above his collarbone where one of the vamps had come at him with a stolen Angel blade, his coat is ripped slightly. Dean speaks through a mouth of popcorn. “Why hasnt thst healed yet?”
“Angel blade wounds take longer. It will with time,” Cas says, monotone. He looks at the rip in his coat before turning to the Tv, head tilted slightly. “What are you watching?”
“Heartstopper.” Dean says, he cracks open one of his beers and takes a drink.
“This is a medical program? Like Doctor sexy?”
“No, no nothing like that…sit down I’ll explain…” Dean pats the vacant side of his bed, Cas hesitantly sits down. He swings his legs up to rest on the bed.
Dean offers him some popcorn. Cas just stares at him, “you know angels don’t eat.”
“Wouldnt kill You though to just try it? Whatever it’s your loss” Dean sighs. “Anyway…it’s about these two dudes who fancy eachother I think.”
“I don’t understand what that has to do with cardiology”
“Nothing, Cas, forget the hearts for a moment…it’s a romcom, romance, but instead of hot chicks it’s two guys…”
Cas nods slowly, he looks back to the Tv, “and you…enjoy this?”
“Dudes? Hell yeah. Romcoms not so much. But I dunno…it’s worth trying I guess? I don’t think it’s like those cliches like…Titanic, When Harry met Sally, the Notebook…” Dean takes another sip of his beer, he offers a bottle To Cas.
“I don’t know any of those.” Cas takes the beer and effortlessly Cracks it open.
“Good, they're all rubbish,” Dean scoffs, he looks back to the Tv.
“Do you mind if I watch this with you?” Cas asks after taking a long sip of his beer.
“Yeah, of course man,” Dean smiles, “always nice to hang out with you”
“Thank you, Dean” Cas turns back to the Tv, he watches the interactions between Nick and Charlie with intense focus, trying to read and analysis their body language, tone of voice…as he does with most humans in the real world. Somehow he does all that and still misses social cues.
As the first episode comes to an end, both Dean and Cas found themselves getting closer until they were completely side by side, thighs touching, shoulders pressed together. Neither of them comment, they don’t need to.
Dean clears his throat. “Hey Cas?”
Cas looks to him. “Yes Dean?”
“Listen, you ever breath a word of this to Sam-“
“-you’ll respond with an act of violence or aggression. I understand.” Cas interrupts, by now he knows Dean well enough to predict the majority of everything he says.
“It’s like you read my mind…” Dean huffs a laugh, shaking his head, “I’d never hear the end of it…”
“Your secret is safe with me.”
They fall into a comfortable silence, watching as Nick and Charlie work through their slow developing feelings for eachother, while attending school. Neither of them say a word, they binge the first season until Dean falls asleep, that’s when Cas decides to pause it so he doesn’t miss anything.
Cas sits with Dean while he sleeps in complete silence, he’s found that his presence often keeps the endless torment of nightmares away from Dean, so he refuses to go anywhere.
