Work Text:
It has been a mere day. He is now in front of the mirror, putting on different shirts in front of his torso, trying to decide which one looks better. Behind him, Charlie looks amused at the whole ordeal. Leo was annoyed with him but tried to ignore it. He needed Charlie to help him with his outfit.
“So, which one looks better?” Leo finally blurts out after feeling helpless about choosing a shirt.
“You could wear a trash bag for all it matters” Charlie replies coolly.
“I’m serious! It’s my first time going on a date with him, it needs to be perfect!” Leo said annoyed at his brother.
“Red one” Charlie said.
“Are you sure?”
Charlie nodded energetically. “Red is his favorite color, isn’t it?”
That was true, Leo thought. But then again, what if Remi liked him better in blue? It was a ludicrous situation for the whole choosing an outfit for a date thing. It was even stupider that his parents asked Charlie to chaperone them on their first date. They weren’t obviously going to do anything that warranted Charlie’s supervision. They had only kissed and held hands for the few hours they had begun to be boyfriends. Nothing more, and certainly, Leo didn’t think he needed anything more. Yet, Remi’s parents were also more tranquil that Charlie would chaperone them. Ridiculous, Leo thought. The whole ordeal was ridiculous. Remi would shy away with Charlie around, as if it wasn’t hard enough for the boy to come out of his shell (which Leo found cute).
“I’ll follow your advice” Leo announced. Charlie rested in his bed looking at his phone, probably chatting with one of his many girlfriends.
“Good call” The older boy said, disinterested.
Of course, Charlie had better things to do than chaperone his little brother and his shy boyfriend. But he had a duty as the eldest, and so he was also curious to watch his little brother interact with Remi now that they had finally done the inevitable and confessed their feelings. Charlie had a feeling that Remi, shy as he was, would probably feel uncomfortable with his presence. And he lamented that he would probably ruin it for him, but he was a big brother, and his parents and Remi’s parents had asked so nicely to him, that he couldn’t help but take on this mission. Remi would have to deal with it, he thought with an amused smirk.
Remi lacked something that was useful once in a while: having a sibling. He was in his room getting all flustered about what clothes to choose. His mother had decided to help him, but being as motherly as she was, opted for his young little man to wear a formal attire that had no business whatsoever for a such a simple activity as a picnic. So, he discarded her opinion and she, gentle as ever, tried to help him pick other clothes, unbothered that her only son had disregarded (for once) her choices for him. Remi couldn’t understand the logic behind dressing for the occasion. Should he pick what he wanted? What would Leo like him to wear? Did it matter at all? Remi had so many questions. It was all blissful when the only thing he had to think about was the feeling of his lips on him. How beautiful to only feel and not think, he thought (ironically).
Finally, he chose a knitted red sweater, some black loose pants and his comfier grey sneakers. Overall, the fit was nothing special, but he felt it was most appropriate for a picnic. It was casual, he thought. And something inside him had a feeling that Leo, as gentle as he was, wouldn’t berate him for his fashion choices. Remi wouldn’t judge him too. Leo could wear the trashiest clothes ever, and he would still look as good looking as he was. His mother looked at him while he was lost in these thoughts while he sat on the couch of the living room. She had a knowing smirk on her, as if silently saying “I know what you are thinking about”. It was easy to guess with him, as he devoted a large portion of time to thinking about Leo. She was happy for them, but at the same time, she had a fragile fear in her heart. Oh, she wished that things would end happily for them, because if they didn’t, she would be so worried for her poor sentimental boy.
All was set. Remi insisted he would be the one to get the food. Leo was not happy about it; he had suggested the picnic he should have been the one to get the food. But Remi said he was better at making sandwiches and had actually convinced Leo after planting a small kiss on his cheek and asked for it with his breezy gentle tone. Leo was at the clearing sitting on the grass, playing with a small dandelion he had found on the track to the place where they would have their first date.
“Where is he?” Leo said worriedly. It was so unlike Remi to arrive late anywhere.
“He is probably not far from here” Charlie replied. “Leo”
Leo turned to look at him, worry clear in his face.
“Leo calm down, I’m sure he is fine.” Charlie said sternly to his little brother. Sometimes he felt the boy exaggerated his concern for his boyfriend, and some other time he would find it endearing but today it seemed exasperating.
“O-okay” Leo said, trying to not imagine worst case scenarios.
The rustling of dried leaves was heard not far from the clearing. Leo turned to look at the source of the sound. There was Remi, carrying a large wooden basket which Leo guessed carried the sandwiches. Ever eager to help his boyfriend in whatever situation, Leo walked towards him.
“Hey” Leo said looking at him with a huge smile.
“Hi” Remi said still struggling to carry the basket.
“Here, let me help you” Leo said and grabbed it from his hands.
“I can manage to carry it Leo” Remi said looking at him.
“But you don’t have to” Leo said still smiling at him.
He then got closer to the auburn-haired boy and kissed him on the cheek. “I missed you”
Remi smiled at the soft touch. “We haven’t seen each other for a few hours Leo”
Leo grabbed his hand. “A whole night without you…”
“And you better get used to it lover boy” Charlie interrupted them. Leo turned to look at him, not amused at all.
“Hey Remi, how are you doing?” Charlie asked the other boy, ignoring the murder looks from his brother.
“I’m good” Remi said with his cheeks a bright red color.
Charlie gave him a thumbs up. Leo carried the basket to the small tablecloth he had brought along and planted on the floor. Once there, both boys sat. Charlie sat near a tree, a prudent distance away from them so they could have their own privacy and still keep an eye on them.
Both boys weren’t hungry at all, still too mesmerized with each other to care for food. Leo sat close to Remi and simply looked at him. Remi felt self-conscious at this, Leo’s eyes on him were piercing, the blue ice-cold irises directed at him made him shiver slightly. Leo was studying him, as if absorbing his image through his eyes.
“What’s the matter?” Remi asked softly.
“Can’t a boy just stare at his boyfriend peacefully?”
Remi blushed at this. Leo was so weird sometimes. “You are creeping me out”
Leo laughed at this, and the mirth in his eyes returned. “Shut up, I was just admiring you”
“Still kind of creepy” Remi said, allowing himself to joke with his new boyfriend.
“Whatever” Leo huffed. “You still chose me”
“I never had any other options other than you” Remi said honestly. “I-I mean… uh…”
Leo looked at him amused. “You don’t have to explain yourself Remi. And for the record, that just isn’t true”
“It is!” Remi protested.
“Oh really? What about Jean? What about Sabrina?” Leo challenged him.
“You don’t seriously think I had a thing for them” Remi said, his face getting a serious appearance.
“Maybe…” Leo said playfully. “Still, I couldn’t take any chances”
Remi looked at him. Did Leo at one point think he was interested in someone else? How? He had only eyes for the blonde. He thought he had made himself clear about it, if only through his emotions shown to him.
“What’s the matter Remi?” Leo said worried when his boyfriend scrunched his nose.
Leo knew that face, it was the “deep in thought” face Remi had. Leo didn’t want him to think hard; he wanted him to enjoy this date.
“Hey, hey… no thinking hard today” Leo said. “It’s our first date, Remi”
“Were you really jealous about them?” Remi finally said, after a split second of silence.
It was Leo’s turn to think. Though thinking wasn’t his best ability.
“Maybe” Leo carefully said.
“Why?”
“I just don’t like to share you” Leo said seriously.
Remi felt the intensity of those blue eyes on him again. Leo meant it, he knew that.
“You are a weirdo” Remi said pushing his boyfriend away. Leo giggled at the playful contact.
“I’m your weirdo” Leo replied. “Yours alone”
“And what am I to you?” Remi said, still playing along.
“You are my cutie” Leo said.
Remi’s cheeks were so red and so hot.
“You guys are so sappy” Charlie said, as he was standing a few steps from them.
“Don’t mind him, my love. He is jealous” Leo said grabbing Remi’s hand.
“I’m just here for my food” Charlie said looking at Leo.
Remi grabbed the basket and took out a sandwich and a juice box. “My mom made this for you”
“Thank you, Remi,” Charlie said grabbing the food. He then proceeded to munch the sandwich.
“This is great” Charlie said chewing and speaking at the same time.
“Gross” Leo said looking at him. “Leave us alone big bro”
Charlie ignored him and went away, to sit beside the tree where he was before. Leo looked at him, irritated. It was so frustrating having to be chaperoned by his big brother. Why had his parents decided this was a good idea? And why had Remi’s parents agreed? Didn’t they trust them?
Remi grabbed the basket again and took out a sandwich and a juice box for him and handed Leo his. Leo unwrapped the sandwich, surprised to see it was his favorite. How did Sophie know? He never told her about his favorite sandwich. Remi looked at him.
“Aren’t you hungry? It’s your favorite” Remi said.
Leo smiled at him. “Aww you prepared it for me?”
“Shut up” Remi said embarrassed.
“Aww you did” Leo continued teasing him.
Remi turned away from him and munched his own sandwich. Leo kept laughing a bit. After a few minutes of silence, Leo spoke.
“How did you figure I liked the bacon with a bit of maple syrup?”
“Your mom makes them that way” Remi said.
Leo was still puzzled. “You asked her?”
“I am observant, that’s all” Remi said turning to look at him, dignified in his own response.
“Oh really? Observe this”
Leo grabbed his hand and yanked him towards his side. He then planted a kiss on his lips and with his other hand placed on the back of Remi’s head deepened the kiss. After a few seconds they broke apart.
“You-you can’t j-just do that” Remi protested, flustered by what just had happened.
“Why not? You didn’t like it?” Leo said looking at him with a knowing smirk.
“I didn’t say I didn’t like it” Remi replied humbly.
Leo giggled a bit. He then hugged his boyfriend from the side. “I like it when you get all flustered”
“Why?”
“It’s cute” Leo replied simply.
Remi shook his head. His boyfriend was seriously weird.
The rest of the date they talked about all kinds of things. From time-to-time Leo stole kisses from Remi. And the boy replied with his own caresses to the other boy. At one point they were lying down on the grass, looking at the sky. Leo told him about his debacle with deciding which shirt to use and how he finally decided. Remi laughed at this, relieved to know that he wasn’t the only one to struggle with how to dress for the occasion. Remi confessed that Leo did look better with blue, even if red was his favorite color.
“I knew it!” Leo said triumphantly.
“What are you talking about?” Remi said as he was laying down on the grass still.
“I said to Charlie that I should have probably wore the blue shirt, but he said no that you would like me better in red because that’s your favorite color”
“I do like red” Remi pondered. “but blue may be my second favorite color”
“Why?” Leo said intrigued.
“Uh well…” Remi said a bit ashamed. “It’s just that…. it’s the color of your eyes” Remi said the last part almost whispering.
Leo stared at him. “Really?”
“Y-yeah… it’s kind of stupid right?” Remi said lamely.
“No” Leo said immediately. “I just… you can be so kind sometimes Remi…”
Remi stared at the ground. “Well, I do love you”
“So do I” Leo said. “I love you Remi”
Leo laid on the grass and got closer to Remi. “I…” He said staring into those brown warm eyes. “Remi…”
“What?” Remi said holding his gaze.
“It’s just that… I am so happy to have you” Leo said his voice wavering a bit.
“Are you going to cry?” Remi said trying to tease his boyfriend.
Leo, however, didn’t change his serious expression. “I’m so lucky to have you”
Remi got closer to him and caressed his cheek. “Don’t cry Leo”
“I’m just so glad that we solved our issues Remi” he said wistfully. “How awful would it had been if you weren’t here anymore”
“But I am here” Remi said cleaning a small tear that was running on Leo’s cheek. “I am here for you”
Leo gave him a kiss on the lips, but it was so soft and tender. It wasn’t simply an affection; it was his love poured from his heart to his boyfriend. And Leo was truly happy they were together.
