Work Text:
Piper always saw the words on her forearm as nothing but adorable. “Oh, goodness me!” That was such a cute thing to say, in Piper’s opinion. She also chose to ignore her best friend when he would claim that her soulmate was an old man. Of course they aren’t old, Leo, shut up!
Piper chose to ignore what these words meant. It seemed that she would either have to wait years upon years to meet her soulmate, when they were both old and wrinkled, or she’ll somehow have to make a relationship with someone years and years her senior work out. She wasn’t sure which to hope for.
“Piper?” She was snapped back to reality as Jason called her name from the other side of the cafe table.
“What’s up?” she asked, slightly startled.
“Why are you all up in your head today?” Jason looked concerned.
Piper smiled at his care for her, “Nothing much.” However, the way she glanced down at her arm gave it all away.
Jason’s eyes softened in understanding. “I can ask Leo to stop if the teasing is too much,” he offered.
“Ok, mother hen, lay off it. Really, the teasing is all fi-” Piper began, only to be cut off.
“A black coffee for the guy with the hottest soulmate, and a mocha for the girl with the pedo soulmate!” Leo grinned at Piper, setting her drink in front of her.
“Speak of the devil and he shall appear,” Piper muttered, taking a sip of her drink.
“Awww, you were talking about me! How sweet,” Leo leaned into his boyfriend’s side.
“Yeah, talking shit on you,” Piper retorted, smirking at the fake betrayed look on her best friend’s face.
“You know I’m your favorite~”
“Keep dreaming, pretty boy.”
“Aw, you think I’m pretty?”
Piper would never admit that bantering with the boy she loved like a brother was one of her favorite pastimes. “Shut up,” she replied.
“What a comeback!” Leo announced, imitating a game show host with a mimed microphone. The two laughed together, just as biological siblings would.
Jason stared at them both, confused. Piper smirked at him, “Only child.”
“I have a sister!” Jason only became more puzzled.
“You’ll never understand,” his boyfriend told him.
Jason just shook his head in exasperation and laid it down on top of his boyfriend’s. Leo smiled softly, dropping his signature smirk. He would never confess it, but Piper knew he was soft for Jason. She knew him too well, maybe even better than she knew herself.
Piper would never tell, but she envied the two of them just a little bit. Their words were cute and funny, and didn’t really have a hidden meaning like Piper saw in hers. Jason had, “Go, white boy, go!” This led Leo to have, “Excuse me?” Piper thought this was extremely fitting for her two friends.
“Well, sorry Pipes, but we do have a date planned, so we better go,” Jason explained, smiling back at his boyfriend.
“Yeah, people who aren’t gonna be single until they’re old get to do that,” Leo poked at Piper. “You know, go on dates while we’re young, and not get mistaken for half-dead people or a parent and their teenager.”
“Yeah, yeah,” she replied. “Have fun, you two.”
“Bye!” Piper’s friends called as they left the cafe.
“Bye,” she half-heartedly responded, sitting back in her chair.
Piper sat in the cafe thinking about her soulmate for maybe ten more minutes, before deciding she should be at least a little bit productive. She was still lost in her head as she exited the cafe, walking down the street toward her apartment. It was a beautiful day outside, so Piper decided to stroll past her apartment and go on a walk. She had her eyes closed and was looking up at the sky, letting the sun hit her face. Next thing she knew, Piper was on the ground, as was an adorable girl in front of her. She had gorgeous golden eyes and beautiful dark skin. Her cinnamon brown hair curled perfectly around her pretty face. Piper was only snapped back to reality when she heard her voice, which sounded as perfect as she looked.
“Oh, goodness me!” the beautiful girl exclaimed, and Piper’s mind broke.
Piper stumbled over her words, somehow trying to say “I’m so fucking sorry!” and “Are you okay?” at the same time.
“ARE YOU FUCKING SORRY?!”
The girl looked at her with wide eyes as Piper quickly stood up, offering her a hand. Those pretty gold eyes stared up at her in confusion before Piper realized what she said.
“Oh my gods, I’m so fucking sorry, that’s not what I meant to say,” Piper rushed to get the words out of her mouth, apologizing over and over again as the girl took her hand and Piper helped her to her feet. She giggled, and Piper thought it was the most perfect sound she would ever hear.
“That was not how I expected this to go,” the golden girl smiled at Piper, and Piper melted.
“Yeah, me neither,” she replied, still gazing at her dreamily.
“Hi, I’m Hazel.” Piper decided that Hazel was the perfect name for the perfect girl that she was so lucky to have as her soulmate.
“Piper,” she replied, shaking Hazel’s hand that was offered. “You have gorgeous eyes.”
Piper was not ready for Hazel to somehow get even more perfect when she blushed. “Thanks,” Hazel replied, face tinted pink. “Could I… get your number, maybe?”
“Of course,” Piper stated instantly, fumbling for her phone. She nearly dropped it as she opened her contacts for Hazel to add hers. Hazel giggled again, and Piper could swear she nearly passed out.
When Hazel gave Piper back her phone, she saw that she saved her name as “Hazel with the pretty eyes.” Piper looked back up at Hazel, to which she said with a small smile, “I didn’t want you to forget.”
“I could never,” Piper replied, smirking at her.
She watched Hazel go red and hide her face behind her hands, which was the cutest thing Piper believes she could do, if it hadn’t hid her face. Piper smiled widely, pocketing her phone.
Hazel turned around to leave, but Piper, selfishly, didn’t want to let her go.
“Wait!” Piper exclaimed, causing Hazel to turn, eyebrows furrowed in confusion. Piper thought that was adorable. “Do you want to go on a walk with me?”
Hazel thought for a moment before nodding. “Yeah, I’d love to,” she smiled at Piper.
The first couple minutes of their stroll were rather awkward, to put it lightly. Until, that is, Piper began a conversation.
“You know, I thought you would either be a creepy older person or I would have to wait a long time to meet you,” Piper stated.
Hazel’s brows furrowed again, “Why?”
“Your first words to me were, “Oh, goodness me!” which is adorable, but it sounds like something an older person would say.”
Hazel giggled lightly, “Oh, I guess it does. I mean, I thought either I did something very wrong to you, or you were not a very nice person.” She showed off her arm with the lovely words, “ARE YOU FUCKING SORRY?!”
Piper squeezed her eyes shut in embarrassment, causing Hazel to snicker. “I’m actually so sorry you’ve had to live with that,” she said sheepishly.
“My brother and his boyfriend find it pretty funny, actually,” Hazel admitted, “and so do I.”
“My friends find mine funny as well!” Piper exclaimed. “I’m quite happy this is our situation and not what we thought.”
“Me too,” Hazel agreed.
As the two passed by Piper’s apartment again, Piper realized it was approaching dinner time, and turned to Hazel sadly. “I should probably go home, it’s about time to eat.”
Hazel looked down at her watch before nodding, “Yeah, me too.”
The two looked at each other for a couple seconds longer, neither wanting to leave, before Hazel got on her tip-toes and kissed Piper on the cheek. “Bye!” she smiled before walking off.
Piper stood frozen for a few seconds before sighing dreamily and entering her apartment. She jumped onto her bed and texted Jason and Leo, giggling and kicking her feet the whole time.
After she ordered her dinner, Piper finally remembered she had Hazel’s contact information. She spent the whole time she was waiting for her food trying to figure out what to text her soulmate.
A couple buildings down, Hazel was sitting with Nico and Will, telling them everything when she got a text.
