The Fall of The Guard

Summary:

Just because the war is won doesn’t mean that there’s still not a problem that needs to be solved.

Notes:

This is the last chapter of my first ever series. This will end Arc 5.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Once they got back to spawn they saw it. The army of 10,000, which looked like it lost a good sum maybe closer to 9,000 now, were standing with a naked Ash. Mane, Minute and Jaden were especially close, all being within reaching and striking distance if it came to that. Fymada saw Parrot and smiled.

“Welcome back!” Fymada greeted, “Are they gone?”

“Yeah, it's over,” Parrot relieved.

“...Look I know I lied to you all,” Spoke explained, “and my reason for doing it isn’t good. I shouldn't have thought that I knew better than anyone else. I know I’ve done some not super right things and I’m sorry I just–”

“Don’t worry about it,” 4C interrupted, “We forgive you. We know you were just trying to do what you thought was best.”

“And we're sorry,” Fymada apologized, “We shouldn’t have left you guys.”

Parrot and Spoke both smiled. Then all eyes slowly turned to Ash. What should they do with him? That was the question on everyone's minds. He had done so much to so many people. Death seemed justified.

“A vote,” Flame stated, “Let’s do a server vote to see what to do with him.”

Everyone seemed in agreement. Flame, Parrot, Lomedy, Mane, Minute, Egg, Theo, Spoke, Jumper, Mapicc, and Jaden led Ash into the prisons in Northern Counsel. The Guard besides Jamato and Wemmbu followed after.

“Wait, where's Wemmbu?” Flame asked.

“He stayed with Jamato at the battle while we all led Ash back to spawn,” Jaden responded.

“...that idiot,” Egg whispered. He didn't mean to say it out loud.

Everyone looked at Egg then to the other members of the Guard who all refused to make eye contact.

“Someone explain now!” Flame demanded.

“All the exploits in the Farlands are connected,” Firestar started.

“What does that mean?” Mane asked.

“Jamato used an exploit to save the entire army, remember?" Serpent reminded, which got a nod from everyone who was there.

“Wait, what?” Spoke asked.

“Jamato betrayed Null and Ash during the battle when Ash revealed he had a trap under the battlefield because Jamato wanted to save the server or whatever and choose the wrong enemy.” Jaden explained.

“So Jamato used an exploit to save the army. How does that have anything to do with Wemmbu?” Parrot asked.

“All the exploits got connected by accident which means they would have all gone off. The energy they created would need to go somewhere. The only other thing in the Forge that's not an exploit is the big orbital cannon. The energy from the exploits would have superpowered the orbital.” Wyll explained.

“So they went to what? Turn it off?” Theo asked.

“Well that's not the problem. The problem is that this orbital was made during the original Mafia days and was aimed at spawn to free it from the Mafia. It was never aimed anywhere else.” Serpent stated.

“So they did go to turn it off then,” Spoke said.

“Its not that simple,” Serpent stated, “In order for someone to stop it from firing the person would need to blow it up. But because it’s supercharged if anyone was too close to it when it exploded there's a 90% of dying because in the Farlands there's no bedrock and elytra’s don’t work…”

The realization dawned on the group. Stopping the orbital form exploding was a suicide mission. Flame leaned on Mane who hugged him back. They all realized there was no way to even help them. They were out in the Farlands alone.

“What do we do?!” Wemmbu exclaimed.

“There’s nothing we can do, Wemmbu,” Jamato stated, “This cannon is going off.”

Wemmbu looked through his chest and he had one orbital left, one. It was a stab shot. He held his hand over the shulker for a long time before pulling it out of his echest and grabbing the orbital. It had a different weight in his hand. It wasn’t going to be used for destruction or death, it was going to be used for helping.

Jamato was completely spiralling. How could something he created be used to destroy the server? He couldn’t even think about anything to do to stop it. He was panicking; he'd never done that before, even in all the dangerous situations he’d been in. What scared him the worst was that Spoke was at spawn. He couldn’t kill Spoke. His first friend, the one he taught to exploit. He really was the monster this whole time. He created Spoke. He never even got to say goodbye. Him and Wemmbu wouldn’t even be able to get away from the cannon fast enough even if they left now and built something to set it off.

Jamato looked over at Wemmbu who had a fishing rod in his hand. Jamato understood it as soon as he saw it. This was the only way to go down with his exploits to save the server. I guess I really will complete my goal, Jamato thought.

“I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have brought you into this. I should have come alone.” Jamato stated, knowing Wemmbu had made up his mind. There was no stopping it; they were both going down with the cannon.

Wemmbu turned and smiled at Jamato. Wemmbu sighed before stating “Can you make my communicator work? I want to leave a message for Egg.”

Jamato nodded before flicking his wrist and encoding it, making Wemmbu's communicator work. Wemmbu began typing and although Jamato didn’t know what he was saying he knew the general idea of it.

Ping

Wemmbu whispered to you: Hey Egg, I’m sorry that this all had to happen like this. I love you, dude. You were the best chungy I could ever ask for. Have Firestar go into my echest and give out my stuff. Flame, Parrot, and Spoke can split all the armour and pvp stuff I have in my echest. Mane can have Gambit and Jaden can have Crucible. Use the orbitals as you see fit. I know I already said this but I love you, dude. Live a long life even if it's without me. Oh and have Minute also split some of the stuff in my echest too for helping you so much. Stay safe. And remember to forgive and forget. Love, Wemmbu.

Egg started literally shaking when he read the message. Jaden saw it and came over to comfort him before looking at the message. He hugged Egg back before slowly starting to cry along with Egg. Parrot put his hand over his mouth before hugging Theo who just held him. Flame and Mane were now fully in an embrace. Both were able to hide their tears due to the blindfolds, but the weight held heavy in the room. Firestar embraced Serpent and Wyll joined the hug. Minute went over and joined the Egg and Jaden embrace. Egg was fully sobbing now but no one still had said anything.

Ping

This message came from Spokes communicator.

JamatoP whispered to you: I’m sorry Spoke, I’m so sorry.

Spoke just hugged Mapicc tighter and Jumper came and joined the hug.

It's now or never. Time to save the server even if it's the last thing they both ever do. Wemmbu walked towards the cannon which was literally over charging itself. They didn't have any more time for stalling. Wemmbu began walking closer to the cannon.

“Wait,” Jamato said

“Hmm?” Wemmbu questioned.

“We want the best chance at survival right? So this cannon is going to launch us so we’ll need to be on a ledge or something so it at least flings us up.” Jamato explained.

Wemmbu nodded before looking up and seeing a ledge for a torch above them. Wemmbu pointed up at the ledge before using an ender pearl to pearl up.

“Come up,” Wemmbu stated, throwing a pearl to Jamato.

“What? But I–” Jamato stated.

“I don’t care, you also betrayed Ash and saved 10,000 players so get up here,” Wemmbu ordered.

Jamato pearled up right behind Wemmbu. They both barely fit on the platform but it was the only one around them. Jamato then held two totems and Wemmbu off-handed one with his orbital still in his right hand. Wemmbu looked back to Jamato who gave him a little nod before he turned and hit his orbital dead center of the cannon. Wemmbu quickly put a totem in his other hand before everything went black.

Just then all the members of Guard chestplates broke. The realization sat heavy. Egg got up and started walking out.

“Egg? Where are you going?” Minute asked.

“He’s not dead, he wouldn’t leave me!” Egg exclaimed.

“Egg,” Jaden said.

“No! I’m going to the end, he'll come!” Egg proclaimed. Egg then walked out on his mission to wait for his best friend. Minute and jaden followed. Slowly so did all the other members of the group. Some in pity, others still held out hope. Tnt wouldn’t kill Wemmbu, Flame thought, it couldn’t.

“Ugh…where am I?”

“We survived…”

Wemmbu’s whole body hurt. Both his totems were gone, if he didn’t have one of them he’d be dead. Wemmbu tried to get up but his whole body still ached. He needed to get to spawn. He had to tell Egg he’s alive.

“Wemm…” Jamato stated weakly.

Wemmbu gave Jamato a half smile as a result. Jamato wasn’t rocked as hard as Wemmbu because Wemmbu had been standing in front of him when the cannon blew. Jamato couldn’t help but feel pity. Wemmbu had done all this to fix his mistakes. He had to help Wemmbu; he probably wouldn’t live much longer. He was losing a lot of blood and it looked like he hit his head on the landing.

“C’mon lets get you to spawn,” Jamato stated, helping Wemmbu get to his feet.

Wemmbu was surprising light. This was because he was an end hybrid; all end hybrids are naturally light. Jamato started leading the both of them to the closest end portal which he was praying was already filled. The journey felt like it was taking decades and with Wemmbu coming in and out of consciousness Jamato knew they needed to get there quickly. Lucky for them Jamato saw the end portal ahead. Jamato smiled and nudged Wemmbu a little to look which got him a smile out of the end demon.

The end portal was luckily filled already which meant Jamato and Wemmbu just had to jump in. Jamato’s legs felt like they were about to give out and buckle. Wemmbu may be light but he still had to practically carry him after being launched thousands of blocks. This wasn’t like a normal tnt cannon that launched people though this cannon launched them at super speeds. He pushed Wemmbu into the portal then his legs gave out and he fell in after Wemmbu.

The hum of the end was as it always was but there was something else in the air, something heavier. The group was standing in the middle of the island giving Egg some space. Egg was sitting by the spawn in area of the end, waiting. It was silent for a long time as no one knew what to say.

“Wemmbu!” Egg screamed.

The group on the main island froze until Flame darted towards the spawn area. Everyone followed after him. Once they got there they saw Egg holding onto Wemmnbu for dear life. Wemmbu looked awful. He was covered in blood and looked completely unaware of his surroundings. Soon after Jamato fell through. He didn’t look much better, maybe a little better but still bad. Wemmbu was shifting in out of consciousness but before the dark could fully consume him he managed to whisper out,

"Don't kill him please.”

Spoke ran out to where Jamato was lying on the ground now. Jamato flinched away from Spoke fully expecting a sword to his throat. I mean I deserved it, Jamato thought. Instead he was brought straight into an embrace by Spoke who was crying.

“...Wemm?” Egg stated, poking Wemmbu.

Flame noticed neither had any totems. Flame ran over to where Egg was holding Wemmbu and pushed a totem into Wemmbu's hand. Spoke followed the motion, when he saw it, putting a totem into Jamato’s hand.

“We need to get them somewhere better. Where we can heal them, they won’t live like this.” Minute stated as the voice of reason.

“My castle!” Parrot stated.

The group nodded and Flame took Wemmbu out of Egg’s hands and picked him up. Mapicc went over and helped Spoke get Jamato up. The group brought them back to northern counsel where there were hospital beds and health potions.

Immediately Flame and Mane began patching up Wemmbu while Minute patched up Jamato. All three of them were basically professionals at healing people with all the fights and practice on themselves but this time it was different because they were saving someone else. The preciseness of their movements remained the same as they were able to quickly patch them up.

“Mmm…ugh”

“Wemm?”

“Mmm…Flame?”

“Hey, hey you're awake. How do you feel?” Flame softly asked.

“I feel like I got launched thousands of blocks by a supercharged cannon.” Wemmbu responded, voice raspy.

Flame chuckled. Same old Wemmbu, Flame thought. Wemmbu started chuckling after Flame. Wemmbu felt his eyes grow heavy again. Wemmbu sat up slowly as Flame watched him from the doorway looking for any discomfort in Wemmbu. Whether Flame wanted to admit it or not, Wemmbu was really important to him.

“You were out for three days Wemm.” Flame explained.

“Oh,” Wemmbu said, shocked.

Flame smiled before getting off the wall and walking out to go get Egg. Egg came running in the hugged Wemmbu immediately. Egg jumped next to Wemmbu in bed and just started sobbing. Wemmbu attempted to calm him down but he was never good at those types of things.

“You better not ever leave me,” Egg stated in between sobs.

“I won’t,” Wemmbu promised, trying to hold back tears of his own.

In the other room Spoke was lying next to Jamato who had woken up around an hour earlier. They both had so much to say to each other but for now they just enjoyed each other's company. The way it used to be before the Mafia when they were just fulling around and having fun. Mapicc watched and smiled. He was glad Spoke was happy he really deserved it after everything they had been through. Mapicc walked out to the group of people outside the building where Flame was informing them that Wemmbu had woken up.

The group seemed relieved and the air had lost its heaviness. Mane looked like he was contemplating going inside Wemmbu’s room. Flame looked at him and nodded. Mane then walked into the room where his old student lay. When he walked in he saw a very domestic sight which made him smile. Egg was fast asleep lying against Wemmbu while Wemmbu was preening his wings.

“How are you feeling, Wemm?” Mane asked softly.

“Meh,” Wemmbu responded, “Could be worse, could be better.”

Mane chuckled before walking over and taking Wemmbu’s free hand into his own. He put Wemmbu's hand on his face over his nose and just held it there. A lion instinct, Wemmbu thought. Wemmbu let him hold his hand over his face before stating,

“I forgive you y’know.”

“Ya, but it doesn’t make what I did better, bro,” Mane muffled against Wemmbu’s hand.

The vibrations from Mane’s voice made Wemmbu start giggling. Mane let Wemmbu’s hand go and smiled at the sight. He’d miss this whether his past self would admit it or not. He enjoyed having Wemmbu around and training him. It was nice having company. Maybe he’d have to come back to the main server again.

Wemmbu and Jamato would make a full recovery over the next couple of days. Eventually all groups would split up once more but this time there was something different. Jamato had used exploits and hacks to make everyone's communicators work again. Which meant for the first time in 2 years the members of District 13 could communicate with each other. A bunch of group chats were made after this such as The Pirates which included Jaden, Wemmbu, Egg, Loppezz, Codmaster, and Youngy; UU quartet which included Wemmbu, Flame, Spoke, and Parrot; BAT which included Mapicc, Spoke, and Jumper; The Guard which included Wemmbu, Jamato, Serpent, Firestar, Egg, and Wyll; District 13; and many more. The group had never felt so at peace before and the server seemed to calm down a little in the aftermath. As people went on their own mission they never forgot the journeys that got them there and the people that supported them through their highs and lows. District 13 is the biggest it's ever been and with so many people looking out for large factions trying to take over the server it would make it almost impossible for any more large factions to rise.
