Chapter Text
Anne startled awake, chest heaving and sweat pearling on her forehead. The layered sounding voice seemed to evaporate away in her mind. Slowly entangling herself from Sasha and sat up straighter. She pinched the bridge of her nose and tried to get a hold of her breathing.
Once she calmed her breathing just enough she slumped deeper into the sofa and was ready to try to sleep again but a warm hand settled on her shoulder. With a side glance she quickly realized it was Sasha.
“Weird dream.” Sasha said, voice still raspy from waking up.
“Did I wake you?” Anne said, taking Sasha's hand into her own.
“No.”
Anne sighed and scooched closer to Sasha resting her head against his shoulder. He put his arms gently around her. They sat in each other's company while Marcy and Avery kept on snoring like vacuums.
“Anne.”
“Sasha.”
Both said at the same time and Anne sat up just enough to look into Sasha's surprised eyes.
“You first.” He said and Anne who really wasn't in the mood for one of those cartoony back and forths answered.
“I am h-have…” She said,
“You have?” Sasha said. Anne took a steadying breath and tried again.
“I have feelings for Marcy.” Anne said, already having a pit of dread and anticipation festering in her gut as Sasha stared at her blankly for what felt like eternity.
“Yeah me too.” Sasha said and then smirked.” If it wasn't obvious already.”
Anne was stunned for a moment until the implications set in and she held onto Sasha even tighter. Sasha grunted in surprise but padded her back sweetly.
“What now?” Anne said looking at Sasha's earnest smile.
“The obvious.” He said. ”Let's talk to her tomorrow and see what happens.”
“Yeah, let's do that.” Anne said and then grabbed her phone from somewhere on the sofa and checked for any new messages. Dread spiked like never before when she realized her parents did not see any of her messages nor tried calling her back.
Her frantic eyes met Sashas concerned ones as she told him what was going on. His eyes widened in horror and both of them got up and out of the living room in order not to wake Avery and Marcy.
Again she pulled up one of her parents' contacts and called. Whenever it did not connect she called again, growing more and more panicked as she tried over again and again.
Sasha and her both kept on pacing in front of the entrance door in hopes of Anne's parents showing up at the last minute so all this tension could evaporate in the air.
Ding Dong! Ding Dong!
Anne and Sasha froze in their pacing. A sliver of hope bubbled up but quickly evaporated when they realized that Mr and Mrs Boonchuy wouldn't ring the bell.
Exchanging a look and then slowly approaching the door the air froze around them. Sasha held a hand to Anne's shoulder and she slowly opened the door.
In front of them were two police officers with tired grim looks in their eyes.
“We’re sorry to disturb you this early in the morning but there…” Officer #1 said and looked over at their partner.
“There has been an accident.” Officer #2 said and whatever came next became nothing but buzzing to Anne, the warm hand on her shoulder feeling more and more distant as they kept talking.
“...we are sorry…”
Anne dropped the phone she kept in her hand and sank to the floor not even feeling the impact her knees made with the floor hot tears running down her distant feeling face.
She didn't even register them leaving as everything began to crumble around her.
Not even Sasha's usually warm embrace could save her from this.
…remember…the box
