Chapter 1: Bang it up inside

Chapter Text

I like you.”

Shocking, I know. A kavetham fic with communication? Who would’ve guessed?-

(shut up)

Kaveh stared red faced at Alhaitham, who briefly looked up from his book.

”Okay.”

He turned back to his book, Kaveh looking stunned. Just like that? No ‘me too’ or ‘sorry’? He though Alhaitham had the decency to atleast reject him with more than 1 word.

”What do you mean okay? Jesus here I am putting myself out there and all I get is a ’okay’? I mean atleast-“

Alhaitham kissed him. Kissed him. He stood there stunned, and everything felt frozen. Arms wrapped around him, like they were used to it-

like he was someone else

And toss your dirty shoes in my washing machine heart

“I got you your favourite flowers.”

Alhaitham handed him flowers, looking out of it. It was mourning flowers, red and vibrant. Kaveh smiled, but it didn’t reach his eyes.

“Thank you.”

He got out a glass vase, and placed the flowers in a dusty corner. The red bled into kaveh eyes, disgustingly blind. Alhaitham, looking longingly at the flowers, got out a book and sat down. The sun was setting, illuminating the room softly. Kaveh stared at Alhaitham, at how the sun made his hair shine and the yellow in his eyes pop out. He looked angelic, unattainable. Kaveh slowly reached out an hand, slowly, just to see if he was real, if he could really be able to-

“When are we having dinner.”

“Oh, I’ll get started.”

He quickly dropped his hand, and walked into the kitchen. Alhaitham watched as Kaveh took out ingredients, but his eyes covered by a white haze. He sighed, and turned back to his book.

The room slowly filled with the sound of pots clanging together and the soft ruffle of a page turning.

Baby, bang it up inside

Kaveh stared at his hair, noticing how it reached nearly halfway through his arm. He stared at the mirror, debating if the risk of cutting his own hair was worth the saving before alhaitham came up behind him.

”You should grow it out more.”

He ran his hand through kaveh hair, seeing how it gleamed like gold in the lanterns lighting. His eyes tightened, and he turned around.

”Hey turn back the lantern!”

”I’m the one paying for it.”

Kaveh huffed as he turned back to the mirror, maybe he should grow it out. In the dark now, his hair looked brown like his mothers, and one could easily mistake him for her. He smiled softly, and walked out.”

One night, Kaveh woke up with a very sore throat, and tiredly decided to get up for a glass of water. He turned to look at Alhaithams relaxed face, and smiled. He kissed him before quietly getting out of his grasp. After making sure Alhaitham was asleep and comfortable, he softly walked over to the kitchen.

This night, the house seemed calmer than usual. There were no loud bangs of Kaveh of working on a project and the neighbourhood was empty. He sipped his water, thinking happily about the past few months. He had a wonderful boyfriend, Alhaitham who while still as infuriating as ever had his moments, and hadn’t been happier. He had also changed a lot in the few months, his hair was longer and darker as he didn’t bleach his roots yet, and his face was slimmer. This was because Alhaitham had argued and made Kaveh tone down on his drinking. One could say he’s a totally different person.

He put his cup in the drying rack (god knows how petty Alhaitham would be if he just left it there) and walked back to the bedroom. As he sat down, Alhaitham stirred and looked up at him. Kaveh smiled and kissed him on the cheek.

”Go back to bed Haitham.”

Alhaitham, tired and half asleep, hugged him and whispered in his ear.

“Love you Bahador.”

What?

Who?

Ba-bahador?

Kaveh lay down next to him, eyes wide open and face cold. He didn’t cry, or get angry or be disgusted. He just felt- well he felt empty. All this time, all these months while Kaveh loved Alhaitham with his whole heart- he only projected onto Kaveh? Is that w-why he liked his long hair? That Kavehs hair wasn’t as blond?

No… no it was nothing. Alhaitham probably was saying nonsense. He wouldn’t do that to Kaveh, not after everything they went through.

Right?

Notes:

Fun facts:

Bahador is an actual npc in the game that I found while looking at a list of random sumeru npcs. I don’t know who he is or what he does but I liked his name and he looked like he was a scribe.
