Chapter Text
“We gotta talk kiddo.” Aizawa had said. Well that’s never good. The man had kept his voice relatively even so Izuku couldn’t even catch a motive other than the concern in his eyes.
“We got your Mom’s contact information from the front desk and what she had to say was less than ideal lil listener.” Mic had spoken up in a soft voice. His conversation with Mrs. Midoriya had gone sour rather quickly. At the mention of her son, she began to scoff and spew off quirkist bullshit that Mic was having none of. He quickly hung up on her. There was also no mention of his father anywhere on his records. Nezu had informed Aizawa that the Midoriyas were living in America. Real classy.
“We also know that this means you’ve been living on your own for the past two years. Is that why you’ve been working at the cafe?” Aizawa asked, still keeping his voice calm and even.
Izuku had started to well up with tears. It was one thing for Aizawa to know about his parents, but it was another for his hero to know too. He just felt embarrassed and ashamed. At the question, he nodded, not wanting to leave the Pros waiting on an answer.
Izuku’s itch came back. That itch to spill everything. Maybe it was time he scratched at it. The next words he spoke were honest and vulnerable. Something he hadn’t allowed himself in a long time.
“It’s been getting hard lately. Trying to train and work enough to keep the lights on. “ Izuku mumbled out wetly. “My mom left two years ago and my Dad left when I was diagnosed as quirkless.”
There was rage in Aizawa’s heart towards the Midoriyas but he didn’t show it. Hell. There was seething rage in Hizashi’s heart towards them too but the two of them did their best to not display it. Too bad the Midoriyas missed out on the sweetest kid in the world.
The two heroes looked at each other. A look that said are we gonna bring this up now? And another look that conveyed no time like the present. Aizawa reached for Izuku’s hand while Hizashi placed a hand on the boy’s leg. It was a heavy but comforting presence. It calmed Izuku if only a little bit. He looked Aizawa in the eyes looking for any kind of malice. There was none. Just tired, dry, and kind eyes that looked back into his.
“You don’t have to decide anything now, but Hizashi and I both have emergency foster licenses. You could come home with us if you wanted.”
And oh. Izuku had not been expecting that. He bent over and broke down. The weight of the past two years came flooding out. He sobbed and cried out. The idea of going home with his mentor and hero sounded too good to be true but he couldn’t imagine himself wanting anything more. He felt a hand running down his back in slow soothing motions and another hand rubbing up and down his leg in calm passes. Finally when he calmed down he looked between the two pros. Not trusting his voice, he resorted to his hands.
You’d really want me to come live with you? He signed.
We would be so happy to have you Izuku. Hizashi signed back eagerly. A twinkle in his eyes so bright, it filled the room with joy. The next thing Izuku knew, he was jumping into Aizawa’s arms, sobbing once more. Lord knows he was gonna be exhausted from all the crying but he didn’t care. Hands wrapped around him immediately. They were warm and safe. The amount of relief he felt was indescribable. He could have a home. He could have love. He supposed he wouldn’t need a job anymore. Not that he had one to go back to. Before he could think more about the Misakis, Aizawa’s voice rumbled.
“We have one more thing to talk about Izuku.” He waited for the kid to look at him before he continued, “We talked with the head of UA, Principle Nezu. He looked into the doctor that diagnosed you as quirkless and found multiple reports of falsified records and misdiagnosis. It’s very possible that you do have a passive quirk that you are unaware of. I can confirm with erasure that there is something there, kid. The nurse at UA, Chiyo, could do a quirk assessment and that would help determine what it is. If you’re up for it of course.”
A new kind of emotion set ablaze in Izuku’s heart. A kind of rage. He had a quirk? He wasn’t quirkless? His life could’ve been so much different if that doctor hadn’t misdiagnosed him. The cards he had been dealt could’ve been an entirely different hand had that not happened. Maybe his parents would love him. Maybe his parents could still love them. Did he even want them back?
Izuku’s hands gripped at the hospital blanket. Monitors began beeping more rapidly as his heart rate sped up. He was angry and exhausted. Life was funny that way. They way it continuously screwed him over. No. You can’t think that way Izuku. This is a new start.
Yeah. Yeah this could be a new start. Izuku looked at the heroes in determination.
“Let’s do it!”
——
It hadn’t taken long to get Izuku discharged. He was feeling a lot better after another nurse had come in and used their quirk on him. The hurting in his chest dissipated and he no longer felt weighed down and heavy. He felt really good! He was practically jumping out of the bed. He had a quirk! And they were gonna find out what it was! Aizawa reminded him to take it easy and he calmed down some.
They, of course, went to check in on the Mrs. Misaski and Kamiko. The latter was doing so much better since he last saw her on the floor. Many of her bruises had disappeared and she, and Kamiko, both had a huge smile on their face when Izuku came bounding in, Aizawa and Yamada right behind. Izuku wasted no time recounting what all the pros had told him.
“I have a quirk Kamiko! We’re gonna go find out what it is!” Izuku exclaimed. Joy lit up in Kamiko’s eyes. She jumped at the chance to grab for Izuku’s arms. The two of them bounced around in tandem with each other. Izuku was gonna miss her so much. With the shop destroyed, he wasn’t sure how much he was gonna see her, but he always had her phone number.
“That’s so exciting Izuku! I’m so happy for you!”
“You deserve the best Izuku son.” Mrs. Misaki sat up in bed and spoke. “You’ve done nothing but work hard for me and my daughter. You truly deserve a good life my boy.” That made Izuku tear up again. He gave his pseudo mom a huge watery smile and went to hug her.
“Thank you Taiyo-san. I’ll miss you.”
Little did Izuku know, that while they didn’t want him working, a huge anonymous donation would be made to the Misakis so that they could rebuild the cafe. And if that anonymous donation just happened to be Eraserhead and Present Mic? So be it. That cafe was the butterfly that allowed the two to meet Izuku and finally help him out. They wanted to repay its kindness.
“Alright Zuzu, let’s get to Chiyo’s.” Said Hizashi, lovingly using the new nickname which Izuku rather liked. He waved goodbye to the Misakis, hoping that he’d get to see them again soon, and the boys were on their way to the car. Izuku settled into the back, Yamada in the driver’s seat, and Aizawa in the back with Izuku. It made him feel more comfortable. He was honestly bouncing with anxiety and excitement. A comforting hand stayed on his knee the whole way to UA. When they made it to UA, they all climbed out of the car and made their way to the nurse’s office.
It was funny seeing the heroes in such casual clothes. They had seemingly swapped out of their hero clothes and into civilian clothes while Izuku was knocked out. Mic’s hair was half up in a bun and his signature orange shades were swapped for a simple pair of red frames causing his green eyes to pop. He had on a soft red shirt, black jacket, and light wash jeans. Aizawa on the other hand had his hair up in a small bun, pieces of hair sticking out and framing his face. He also sported a deep navy blue sweater and sweatpants. Sue the man, he wanted to be comfy. He did just acquire a kid after all.
Izuku was still in the same clothes as the previous night’s endeavors, with the promise that they’d stop by Izuku’s apartment after the quirk assessment. He was feeling a little gross but he had gotten a quick shower in before they left the hospital earlier so it was ok.
The three made their way through UA’s hallways. Izuku looked around in awe trying to take in everything and remember every detail. They passed by the cafeteria and the teachers lounge before finally reaching the nurse’s office. Chiyo was already behind the door running around getting things ready. Aizawa opened the door and led Izuku in, Yamada taking up the rear. Chiyo happily looked up at the boys.
“Hello Izuku dear! I’ve heard lots about you, come take a seat up on my bed will you?” Chiyo chirped out. Her voice was frail but sweet. Very grandmotherly. Izuku liked this lady. He flushed a little bit at her mentioning she had heard a lot about him. But regardless, he went over to the nurse’s bed and hopped on up. Aizawa and Yamada followed suit and brought up chairs next to the bed.
“What color kid?” Aizawa sounded. He was concerned the kid was getting overwhelmed and wouldn’t say anything. He had seemed to be in amazing spirits even after being told he had a quirk. Which, after Zashi’s conversation with his mom and further confirmed by Izuku, that was the reason his parents had left him. He took it like a champ. Izuku seemed hopeful even. It calmed Aizawa’s nerves but he still wanted to make sure the kid was ok.
Izuku looked over his shoulder with a sunny smile and a thumbs up.
“Green all the way!”
The pros easily smiled back at the boy. It was refreshing to see him so smiley and happy. Not that he had even been depressing and sad, but happiness was a good look on the boy and they planned to keep it that way as long as he would let them. If the two had their way, Izuku would be staying with them well past fostering.
“Alrighty, let’s get started deary. The test will be just like a standard physical and then I had this machine that will scan a piece of your dna and give us an official quirk and description if there is one. Sounds good?” Chiyo chimed in.
“Sounds good Granny Chiyo.” And Izuku gave her a smile too. He was so excited.
She proceeded to walk through standard tests. She put on a blood pressure cuff and a tiny heart rate monitor that clipped onto his pointer finger. The pressure cuff became really uncomfortable. It had been a long time since he had had vitals taken and he didn’t remember the cuff squeezing so hard. He involuntarily whined out a little bit in pain and Chiyo looked at him apologetically. Soon it was taken off and the heart rate monitor clip was removed from his finger. Everything looked good it seemed.
Chiyo tested his reflexes, tested his ears and eyes, the works. It then became time. The reason they were here in the first place. Nerves were working their way through Izuku’s system. His hands were clammy as Chiyo asked him to spit into a vial. She capped it and put it into the machine’s system. The machine began to whirl and whine as the vial ran around in circles in its main compartment. The whirling slowed down and a countdown started on the screen. The room stilled as everyone looked at the screen.

Quirk Identified. Quirk name: Identification. When the user looks into someone's eyes, they immediately learn their name, any known alias, age, and quirk. This information is later stored in their brain later and can be accessed at any time.
Cheers erupted throughout the room. Arms wrapped around Izuku from behind. Mic was squeezing him for all he was worth. Aizawa’s arms followed suit although it was a lot more gentle of a squeeze. There was love in these hugs. Giggles sounded from Izuku. He couldn’t feel more happy.
“No wonder you remembered Hizashi. Either that or you're just like a huge fan boy or something.” Aizawa joked. Izuku turned his head into Aizawa’s chest and mumbled something unintelligible which just caused the two heroes to laugh around him.
Izuku Midoriya had a quirk, AND new family. Best. Day. Ever!
