It's been three years since Shane was kidnapped in Montreal before Sochi, and he had discovered the completely healthy coping mechanism of not thinking about it.
He had other, more pressing issues: a third Stanley Cup run, a secret marriage, a murderous fan base, and free agency on the horizon.
The whole kidnapping thing was easy to ignore now. He could almost believe it was just a story that happened to someone else.
Or: Shane and Ilya are just trying to move past it all, and the past says no.

Summary
Year one: season 2021-2022.
Hello.
I’m Luca Haas. Ottawa Centaurs right winger, Swiss, twenty-two years old, and currently dealing with what I would describe as an unfortunate amount of personal situations.
First of all, Shane Hollander joined the Ottawa Centaurs.
Second of all, Shane Hollander married my captain Ilya Rozanov over the summer.
Bummer.
Third of all, my apartment caught fire.
Actually that one probably should have been first.
Anyway.
The newlyweds offered me a place to stay with them while everything gets sorted out. I felt obliged to agree since my captains offered and the alternative was staying in a hotel forever.
So this is a literary documentation of how I somehow became a temporary roommate in the Hollander-Rozanov household.
Very temporary.
I think.
I also started this journal because Ilya said it might help with homesickness and processing things.
Currently processing: my apartment burning down, hockey, annoying newlyweds, increasingly concerning emotions about my captains, and whatever the fuck is happening to my life.

Summary
It happened little by little, and maybe Ilya thought that if he slipped away little by little, Shane wouldn't notice.
The first day he knew something was wrong was the night before when he heard a sob beside him. He wanted to turn around, to see, to just hug Ilya—but he couldn't move. He tried to, but it seemed like his body was too comfortable to move. It went on for what felt like an hour. When the cries subdued, he felt an arm wrap around his waist, pulling him close and kissing his nape.
Shane thought that maybe Ilya just missed his mother.
"Prosti menya, lyubov' moya," Ilya whispered. Shane didn't understand the first part, but he knew the last words (my love.)
