And then Aang decides that he wants Zuko, the first good firebender he’s met this century, to be his firebending teacher - even though Zuko wants nothing to do with him.

Sokka realizes that fact before he even starts doing it, back in those late days of the war when Zuko catches sight of the fresh bruise blooming over Sokka’s cheek one morning and teases him about getting distracted sparring with Suki, and Sokka doesn’t know how to say that actually, Zuko fell asleep by the fire last night and the reason Zuko woke up there too is because when Sokka tried to shift him to his bedroll, Zuko kicked him in the face in his sleep.]

Sokka's calling bullshit though and Zuko would be inclined to agree. Soulmates aren't supposed to be fighting on opposite sides of a war and really shouldn't try to kill each others' friends. Well, Sokka's friends. Zuko is too awkward and honor-driven to actually have any.

Assumed dead after his banishment, Zuko takes up The Blue Spirit mask. No one has seen his face in three years, and he won't let them. It's safer this way, being alone. After a Fire Nation general hires him to bring in Hakoda for questioning, he fails the job miserably and ends up a captive of the Water Tribe. When Sokka is employed by Iroh to track down Zuko and find out if he is still alive, The Blue Spirit claims that Zuko is in fact dead, and in a fit of panic, that he was the one who killed him.
