Summary
For as long as Marco has known him, Ace has been standoffish. He's never deliberately cruel, but he's always been closed off from the rest of the crew. The walls he's built around himself are something they've all come to accept. The sky is blue, the sea is too, and yeah. Their youngest member is a little defensive and mean sometimes.
Or at least, he is until Monkey D. Luffy crashes onto their deck, all rambunctious laughter and stretchy limbs. Ace may be a pirate now, but he was a doting big brother first.

A more dutiful female Luffy, Monkey D. Ruby was the crown jewel of the Navy. That is until a few years after the execution of Portgas D. Ace when the Revolutionaries started making their move and the entirety of the Navy turned against her as Akainu proclaimed her own heritage for the world to hear. She died, vowing revenge, and for the first time ever a D died without smiling, and the fabric of reality warped, leaving a five year old Ruby alive again with a decision to make, this time Better Be a Pirate.
