Summary
Steve’s right hand leaves his hip and curls around Eddie’s arm, pulling it closer to study the black bats swooping down his forearm. He traces the swarm, and then slides his hand up to Eddie’s bicep, running over the wyvern curled on the underside of his arm. His touch moves up to brush Eddie’s hair away from the spider tattooed just under his clavicle. He glances up and sees Eddie staring down at him, biting the inside of his cheek.
“Can you try something for me?” Steve asks.
“Yeah.”
“Close your eyes,” Steve instructs. “Please. Just focus on how it feels. Don’t think about how it looks.”
Or: Steve has nightmares; Eddie has scars. They work through that together.

“Steve, man, I couldn’t ask you to do that.” Eddie said.
“Good thing you’re not asking. This is what we do, we take care of each other. Because if we don’t, nobody else will.” Steve said.

Eddie said getting millimeters closer to Steve's face, he was tempted to give him a kiss on the cheek, but when he noticed that the younger guy made a confused face while blushing and holding his breath decided not to make another move. Eddie liked the guy, he didn't want to scare him.
Still, for a second, thinks he has him, did he make the king of Hawkins himself nervous? but all excitement was lost when he heard the other reply, "haha, that's so gay, dude." in an uneasy manner.

Summary
During their freshman year together, Eddie decides to play a harmless prank on Steve. He slips an anonymous love letter into Steve’s locker to make the pretty boy think he has a secret admirer.
Seeing Steve’s smile and flushed cheeks as he reads the letter makes Eddie’s heart skip a beat and somehow he finds himself writing another letter, as a joke, obviously.
But 2 letters turns into 4, then 10, then 20. For the entirety of their high school years together, Eddie slips anonymous letters into Steve’s locker, not quite sure when they stopped being a joke.

Steve smiled, pressing a sweet kiss to Eddie’s jaw, “Well, me too. But no, I meant the jacket.”
“Why should I? From it's fancy little bag, I assumed you wanted to like, preserve it or something.”
Steve shrugged, or as much as he could lying down, looking over at the closet, “Nah, that was my mom's idea. She said I needed to have it ‘in safekeeping’ or whatever. But I never wear it and it just reminds me of shittier times. At least this way, it means something.”
