Shane and Ilya had mutually agreed to keep their whatever-they’re-doing out of Sochi. It was an easy decision to make: this was bigger than any MLH rivalry and definitely bigger than a few hotel hook-ups. There was no room for distractions, not with Olympic gold on the line.

Shane looked up curiously.
“So being boring is genetic?”
He expected laughter. Or the way Shane would roll his eyes even as he melted, the way that made all the teasing feel welcome.
Instead, Shane’s smile disappeared completely. Like a light switched off.
“Yeah,” Shane said, clearing his throat and forcing the word out before it could crack. “I guess so.”
He took a step back, anxious for space that felt suddenly necessary, like he might suffocate if he drifted any closer. Every instinct in him screamed to leave. To put distance between himself and this feeling and the source of it before it swallowed him whole.

When an injury puts Ilya in a coma during the Ottawa Centaurs third game in the Stanley Cup final, Shane must decide whether he can handle the pressures of leading the team to victory with the worry that at any moment Ilya's condition could go from bad to worse.

Shane didn’t want to go home. It was one thing to be in another country clinging to the unfamiliarity of the people and the places to try and rationalise that this was a strange nightmare. But when he had to wake up in his bed alone and walk streets with people wearing Ilya’s jersey that pathetic hope would be extinguished.
It wasn’t supposed to be this way. The next game was the 11th, and if they hadn’t won by then they would have done by the 13th. Either way, by the time Ilya turned 32 on the 15th he was supposed to be a two-time Stanley Cup winner. They would spend the summer at the cottage, bathing in the joy of success and each other and forgetting that there was a world out there that demanded things of them.

Nami has met people who keep a tally of everyone they’ve killed like notches on a bedpost. Zoro marks his in bounties, in berries saved in a coin purse hidden beneath the floorboards under his bed, which Nami has been pilfering for weeks. Nami, though, has no real count of how many people she’s killed. Never bothered to keep track.
Death to her is just that: you’re alive until you aren’t, and then everyone else carries on.

As he rocketed through the air, Shigaraki’s scream of fury at his back and blood roaring in his ears, Bakugo has only eyes for the mismatched mass of bodies held together by fear and determination reaching for him, calling him amongst crackle of green lighting, a shark-toothed grin and a desperate cry. As he reaches his classmates in the sky, he’s too busy joining hands with a redhead to look back at his captors watching his ascension.
Because of that, he does not see.
He does not see All for One’s face, impassive and unmoving behind the black mask as he watched Bakugo get away. He does not see the villain roll his shoulders, he does not hear the low, satisfied hum coming from the man’s lips, as if happy with a task well done. He does not see All for One turn away to face All Might, ignoring his League of Villains scrambling all around him to try and get the blond back in their grasp.
He does not see, and everyone pays the price for it.
(In which All for One lets Bakugo get away for a reason.)

Summary
Katsuki was quite possibly the most stubborn child to ever walk the planet earth. While his unwavering nature could cause issues, it had also saved his life several times. His determination was boundless when well directed, driving him to reach greater and greater heights.
Problem was, this wasn’t a height Katsuki wanted to reach. He'd gotten up here accidentally and he didn’t know how to get down. Or if he even should get down.
In which Katsuki’s kidnapping goes ever so slightly differently. His classmates don’t show up to help him escape, All-Might is caught up in fighting Nomu and as a result takes longer to reach Katsuki after All for One teleported him away. Little things add up, and Katsuki's path as a hero is forever altered, for better or for worse.
