It’s better him than the laundry girls, barely older than ten, trembling in fear as Sir Newest Knight throws a predatory gaze like a promise.
It’s better him. He has magic, so he could fight back, if need be. No one else has magic, so they couldn't fight back. It’s that simple.

Look, Arthur understands. He’s a King now, and that means there are more people after him and that he must be careful. He was being careful! He’d taken knights with him and everything, but that hadn’t stopped a lucky group of bandits from kidnapping him.
Damnit! His husband would NOT be happy with this.
“Merlin’s going to kill me after he gets me out of this.”
Or, Arthur is kidnapped and Merlin’s very understandable reaction to someone daring to take his husband.
