And so the traitor Agravaine lay dead, and the witch vanished, leaving the wreck of war and strife behind them. Arthur Pendragon, son and heir to Uther and now king, took to wife Guinevere and held in company his noble knights. His faithful servant, Merlin, remained close at his side as was their wont. And with these companions, Arthur set forth to rebuild his kingdom, facing not only the doubts of those who misliked his youth and choice of wife, but his own qualms, for he knew that he had been taken in by the sweet words of his uncle and sister and had not seen their treachery until the hour was almost too late. Ere peace could come to his kingdom, he must find a way to heal the wounds that had cut so deeply into his own heart.

It isn't Arthur's fault he's a villain. He was just raised that way. People should be feeling sorry for him, really, have you seen the mask and costume combos Morgana's been making him wear? Sympathy please. And of course, because the world hates him that much, he would be sent to Camelot, where the only living warlock with any power left studies, apparently destined to be a superhero.
The battle of nature vs nurture flares; will they choose to be Merlin and Arthur, fated lovers, or Emrys and The Dragon Prince, rivals to the bitter end?

Summary
Arthur is a pampered prince who has reached the point where he is tired of his father making every decision for him, including who to marry. When he is betrothed to the horrible Vivian he manages to convince his father to allow him to set off away from Camelot to "sow his royal oats."
His sister Morgana on the other hand decided that this would be the perfect opportunity to actually find himself another bride.
So along with his best friend and "bodyguard" Gwaine he heads to the small town of Ealdor. He's skeptical about finding true love here. But when he's robbed he meets an unlikely savior that could turn out to be exactly the person he was looking for.

Arthur has lived and died twenty-one times. Merlin has been there for all of his lives and deaths, he had been walking the earth since their first one. Arthur only remembers his current life. Merlin remembers everything.
This is the twenty-second life. Things are going a bit differently. Arthur is American for one, but that really is the least of this life's strangeness.
