Summary
“Where are you from?” Annabeth asked Percy.
He jerked his gaze from the NYC skyline to her. He opened his mouth, then closed it. He looked back out to the city and Annabeth swore there was something sad in his eyes. “Not from here,” he said softly.
“Not really an answer.”
His jaw clenched and he took a moment to come up with an answer. A lie. “My father has property in the country. It’s not really near anything. It was… isolated.”
“So why come here?” she asked. “If you were doing so fine on your father’s property.”
Now Percy turned to her, frowning. She didn’t like the way his eyes seemed to be trying to read her. Good luck. In the end he just shook his head and turned away. “Not always so nice. And I wanted to find— family, I guess.”
“Family?” Annabeth asked skeptically.
He shrugged. “Isn’t that what demigods are?”
“Family is a lie,” Annabeth told him bluntly.

Summary
“You were raised by the strongest woman alive, and the kindest one too. She taught you goodness and strength in equal measure. And she also taught you to do whatever it took for those you love. So you are going to endure all of this because it would be what she wanted. Are you going to deny your mother that wish, Percy? That you live a full and happy life? Will you deny her?”
Will you deny me? Annabeth desperately thought.
Something shifted in Percy’s gaze, some tension bleeding out as grief flooded in like a tsunami. The earth beneath them stilled as tears formed in Percy’s eyes.

I am... so sorry. Sally Jackson dies. Percy Jackson struggles to grieve. And Annabeth Chase knows both Jacksons deserve more than a mortal send off. After all, Sally Jackson was her own kind of hero. Hopefully some comfort found at the end because that’s what Sally would want. -

Summary
"The blood of your father may demand violence from you, but your mother raised you with nothing but love and that is who you are meant to be.”
Something flickered in Percy’s gaze, like she had lost him in that last line.
(She had forgotten — there had been another influence raising Percy.)
A little panicked, she added as sincere as she could. “I love you, Percy. You do know that, right?”
His gaze softened again. He kissed her. He didn’t answer.
She should have put it together. That should have been it. She had all the puzzle pieces.
But she thought she knew everything about Percy Jackson.
---
Annabeth realizes Percy never talks about his life before coming to Camp Half-Blood. She's too slow to realize why.
