Summary
Shadow wanted to be good. He wanted to be able to look at world and not see something to hate. Something to destroy.
He wanted something that Sonic had in spades. He wanted to understand it, he wanted to have it, he wanted to wanted to keep it alive.
But he couldn't understand it if Sonic died. If they died. So Shadow pulled them away. Away from the Professor's Machine and the consequences of his actions. Sonic would understand. He just had to.

During the laser scene Shadow realizes that they won't be able to hold the laser off long enough for the knock off death star to be move sufficiently away/directed away from the earth. So Shadow teleports them away, as far as he can take them.
They end up in the MCU. I'm sure that won't cause any problems.

When Tails woke up suddenly he was back in Green Hill Then after he ran through Green Hill he was on Starfall Island. He didn’t know what was happening, everything had turned into a blur and for some reason, his memories felt mangled in a way that made his skin crawl.
His friends had gotten stuck in cyberspace, something that he was too dumb to figure out for some reason, he knew vaguely what it was that happened. From what he learned on the other islands. Amy tried to help him learn about how the ancients acted and Knuckles helped him learn about their culture meanwhile he tracked down emeralds and defeated titans.
It was terrifying

Well, it's not like a bit of emotional turmoil (read: complete and utter upheaval of Peter's barely-hanging-by-a-thin-thread life) ever stopped Peter Parker from helping others as Spider-man.
