"Do you... always spend your heats alone?" Clark asked quietly, not quite expecting a reply, but needing to know all the same.
"There's no one else." The words were soft and hollow, and the air around Bruce smelled bitter.
That should have been the moment Clark accepted Bruce's answer and let the subject drop. Bruce wasn't angry or disappointed that Clark had found out something that was meant to stay hidden, and that alone was enough to ease the weight pressing on Clark's chest.
Still…
"I… I'm an alpha," he heard himself say. "If you ever need someone to help you through your heats, you can rely on me."
