Inevitably, Will wondered how Hannibal was coping with the trauma.
He had no doubt that Hannibal was handling it elegantly.
He said he wouldn’t abandon you, a vile thought twisted through Will’s mind. But there was no answer to that accusation. There was no way for Hannibal to hold true to his promise to see Will through this darkness. Maybe if they had never been lovers, his psychiatrist would help him now. Maybe in that world, Will could peel away the cloying tar from his skin and rebuild a home beneath his ribs. The winter might warm and expose the earth beneath, and Will would go digging for the bodies buried there, excavating and tilling the soil so that he was not just death.
There will yet be a spring for us, Hannibal’s voice came. For you, myself, and Abigail.

Will Graham is imprisoned in the BSHCI and believes himself to be the Copycat Killer. He has killed Abigail, and though Hannibal survived Will's murderous psychotic episode, their relationship has not. Will may no longer be sick, but his life is over.(Or so he tells himself, hands over his eyes.)

Summary
Will knows he sleepwalks, that his body does things without the presence of his conscious mind. He dreads that he will snuff the life from someone while his body drifts on auto-pilot.
He never expected that he would do the exact opposite of taking a life.
From this prompt on the Hannibal Kink Meme: So there's a kind of sleepwalking called "sleep sex" wherein the sleepwalker has sex with people while asleep and doesn't remember it in the morning. Will is one such sleepwalker, and of course he doesn't know it. He starts staying with Hannibal at some point (house fire? Renovations? Hannibal's just that persuasive?) and starts having sleep sex with Hannibal almost every night. Hannibal either knows or doesn't that Will's asleep. This continues for some time until either Hannibal tries to have sex with him awake or something happens to make Will realize he's been having sex without knowing it (maybe a pregnancy? *hint hint*). Ending up to writer!

Hannibal inclined his head. "The methods we use to protect ourselves from monsters can become monstrous in their own right. Your mind seeks to protect you when you are overwhelmed, and maybe you see yourself as a victim in order to prevent yourself from actually becoming one."
"Or to prevent myself from becoming the killer."
"The two become one. If you destroy yourself, you cannot hurt others, and similarly, no one can hurt you."
