“Right,” Jon said. “You can stop now.”
Martin, who had been trying and failing to cut through the rubbery meat on his plate, looked nervously up at Jon. “I…what?”
“All of your bizarre attempts to flatter me by implying interest. You can stop. We both know that this is a horrible date.”
“We…do?”

Summary
(title from Vincent by don McLean)
Martin was changing. He got a haircut, which was unprecedented. Jon hadn't seen it so short since they met. It was flattering, though, the shaved sides made his earrings stand out so much more. Still, there was something very un-Martin about it. He swam in his recently worn jumpers. It looked as if he'd just bought more, and in a size up. But the real nail in the coffin game when Jon saw Martin without his glasses.
The red rimmed specs were a significant feature of Martin, and now they were gone. Jon really shouldn't have gotten worked up over it, but how could he not? Martin was stable, he was unchanging. He brought him tea every day and looked the same week by week. Without the glasses, Jon felt as if everything was going downhill from there.

“…oh no, wait, we might be alright. Jon, you with me?”
Jon doesn’t come to, exactly. He didn’t really go anywhere in the first place, except a wonderful, chalky, throat-scratching sea. He had been bobbing contentedly on a splintering piece of driftwood, as the gentle breeze carried a siren song of 'shit, should have adjusted the dosage, jesus you look insane -'

Summary
After the Circus, after the knowing and the Unknowing and after everything went so deeply to shit—after four people went into the wax factory to die—five people came out.
“So how about this,” This Sasha says. She leans forward, business-like. “You tell me something you remember about me, and I tell you whether it’s true or not."
