One moment, I was sitting in our Volvo PV. I was in the passenger seat and John was next to me, driving. War raged on all around us, the whole of Europe bled, but in our little country, we enjoyed a neutrality, making it possible for us to spend the Christmas Eve of 1944 with my parents in blessed ignorance of what actually went on around us.
