Ilya opened up his hidden folder, the one he’d never admitted to having, and sobbed the moment Shane’s face smiled up at him. He spared a glance out the window and saw green and brown terrain rapidly approaching and fuck, he was going to throw up or pass out if he looked, so he looked back at the picture, breathing through his panic until a shaky smile landed on his face, his tears drying on his cheeks from the heat. A dull sense of calm settled over him even as each breath burned his lungs and his ears had long stopped processing sound from the screeching and alarms and screaming. Shane, he thought as he stared at the picture, running his thumb over the curves of Shane’s mouth, over the freckles bridging his cheekbones, over the temples he’d pressed kisses against more times than he could count. I love you.

The room comes to a stop, the buzzing energy of a win quieting, but Ilya barely hears him, still too caught up on Shane messaging him through Instagram. They have barely talked since their fight. What could he have to say on Instagram of all places?
… What did Barrett say?
Ilya blinks.
A plane went down. The Metros plane?
That cannot be true. Ilya must have heard wrong.
_____Instead of Ilya’s plane going down after their Boxing Day fight, it’s Shane’s. Ilya breaks down in the locker room, assuming the worst. When he finds out Shane is alive, his next assumption is that Shane will be mad at him for outing their relationship to the Centaurs. The team helps him get to Shane though, and all of his fears are put to rest.

J.J.’s eyes settled across the parking lot, where Shane had hung up the phone but was still crouched, his silhouette dark, head down, hands at the back of his neck. Fatigued, trying to make himself smaller, hide how exposed he clearly felt. Because he and Roz were a thing. Not a one way thing but an actual… thing. Shit.
J.J. hated Florida. The humidity fucked up his skin, and they had those giant snakes that weren’t even supposed to be there but some idiot Florida men had set them free and the swamps there were so fucked that they thrived. J.J. set his jaw, determined, before he responded. “Tell Jackie to get three tickets.” He reached into his bag and confirmed his passport was there. “It will be harder for Coach to punish all of his captains. I’m going with you.”
He nodded his head definitively.

After the Centaurs' plane almost crashes, Shane, Hayden, and J.J. go on an increasingly ridiculous road trip across Florida to get to Ilya and his increasingly suspicious but always lovable teammates.
