Summary
Swallowing, Caitlyn pressed herself to the wall. Something near her elbow clicked, and the fluorescent lights turned on one by one. As the glass cage and the creature within revealed themselves, fear tightened harder in her chest.
Caitlyn couldn’t really describe it. Only the obvious things; red skin, yellow eyes, white matted hair, horns, tail. Like it had crawled from hell itself.
Her heart pounded. Cold sweat and goosebumps broke all over her skin. She felt hot and cold all at once.
Then the creature spoke. Low, throaty and husky. Threatening.
“Who the hell are you?

“Kiramman, team blue.”
A figure brushed past Vi, interrupting her thoughts and making her finally look up. The girl Sevika had just called was taller than almost anyone else in her class, and Vi couldn’t believe she hadn’t noticed her until now. As the girl walked away to the other side of the gymnasium, back turned to her, Vi took in the long legs and the curve of her ass, lingering there for a second more before lifting her eyes to the midnight blue ponytail swaying with the movement of her steps.
Sheesh.

Vi's last year of high school starts off with the promise of being a shitty one. There's nasty rumors going around about the time she spent away, and there's this girl Vi doesn't remember who doesn't seem to like her. Mylo tries to make a bet with her. And there's rugby.

“Yeah, I was surprised, too,” Jayce says, oblivious. “Apparently she wants to impress a girl.”Vi has a crush on someone, and it’s ruining Caitlyn’s life. A.K.A. Caitlyn finally learns to ask for what she wants.

Vi rolled her eyes slightly, shrugging and still refusing to meet her sister’s gaze. “Right. So you find me a date that doesn’t know what I look like, I go out with her looking… less hot, and then if she sticks around that proves she likes me for my great personality.”
With a slightly screwed up expression that meant she was about to argue back, Caitlyn sat back in her seat and crossed her arms again, giving a little shrug.
“Fine. I’ll give it a shot. You set me up with a woman who doesn’t know who I am, and I’ll give it a fair try. See if my horrid personality doesn’t scare her away.”
Believing they keep attracting shallow dates, Vi and Caitlyn separately agree to go ‘undercover’ for their next one, hiding parts of themselves. When they’re unknowingly set up with each other, they both struggle between wanting to being authentic and wanting to stubbornly prove a point, as they’re forced to rely on their personalities to make the relationship work.

It all started with a note - written in the ugliest handwriting Caitlyn had ever seen.
"I used your bed. Funny fact, you smell like cupcakes."
In the break room, they had six beds distributed for use among shifts. But Caitlyn's bed wasn't part of that set. No, she had bought a seventh piece of furniture with her own money - with a mattress specifically made for her shoulder and lower back pains.
Everyone knew they shouldn't lie down there. Except, apparently, the new hire.
As a first offense, Caitlyn decided to let it slide, with a simple note on the bed.
"Property of Caitlyn Kiramman."
Maybe the mistake had been due to ignorance, after all. Although, three days later, to her complete displeasure, came her response.
"Good to know you have a name, Cupcake. PS: your mattress is really good."
