Summary
The sun rises over Oakhurst, warm rays glinting off the fresh laid snow blanketing the small town. The fields beyond its walls nearly seem to sparkle, blinding those who dare look upon it.
It’s beautiful. Gorgeous, really, if only Apo could find it in herself to truly appreciate the sight.-
Apo celebrates the Winter Solstice with the Militias whilst thinking about Cherri back home, and appreciating who she has now.

Triumphant, Em pulls out and presents a sprig of mistletoe from an inner coat pocket, holding it up in the air over him with a terribly cheeky grin.
Apo feels herself groaning, exasperated and amused, in time with Renhardt and Martyn.

Summary
The blood moon rises over Scott's castle. Chickens cease their endless clucking, hopping onto perches to sleep and hope they aren't the next ones taken. Cow bones lie abandoned along the courtyard, discarded along with the bloodless husks of their owners. Bats flutter away into the woods in search of insects to eat. All the living things in the old Goldsmith Castle are there by force.
Apo is a dead thing in the dark dreaming she's alive, and has nothing in common with them.
She has a lot in common with Pyro, though. At the beginning, back before she made a devil's deal, they'd bonded over finding Truffle. That had been a beautiful time, a time when Apo had begun to think this might not be so bad. A time when her biggest problem was that her supposedly abandoned outpost would have tourists in it who wouldn’t shut the fuck up about vampires and Bigfoot, and she could send letters to Cherri without lying. A time when she could stand to send letters to Cherri at all.

He smiles, almost says something, thinks better of it. Half-bows, and offers her his arm. “Care to dance, my lady?”
She hasn’t forgiven him for cooing when she fled. He’d encouraged that awful deal, he’d bitten her, he would’ve helped to hold her down. She doesn’t regret burning their house down. She doesn’t, she doesn’t, she doesn’t. She hasn’t forgiven him for meeting her horrified eyes with red ones.
She takes his hand.

Because it was Apo who stood in front of him, in that same nondescript military uniform with the top button hanging loose, but the coldness in their eyes, the easy poise of her posture, even the words that fell so casually from their mouth—they all screamed Scott.

Summary
Apo still hates being a vampire. She's home, she's BEEN home, but she still can barely stomach drinking what she needs. But even though it's early, even though she doesn't feel like she deserves it, Cherri is here for her. She always will be, guiding Apo back to love.

A part of them wanted to curl up here and rot but they had already gotten blood on the carpet.
So what was a few drops more?
"Apo?"
She cringed into the ground. Hearing the creak of the whisper quiet hinges, she sat up.
"G'morning, Cherri. Did I wake you?" she murmured.
Ignoring the etiquette of the time before the rooster crowed, Cherri spoke at full volume. "I heard you fall."
"For you?" Apo joked wryly and without conviction. Studying the carpet, there were no visible bloodstains, but that was surely because of the reddish design.Bookmarked by copperfurredfox

Cherri's last words hit Apo's chest like a wooden stake. "I failed Oakhurst," she cried.
At that, Cherri scoffed. "From everything you told me, it was doomed no matter who was sent. What, you were sent to dirt and sticks, then had to wrangle the biggest group of idiots ever? You did a great job. You did so much for them." Under their breath they muttered, "Too much for them."
