His hand closed around the neck of a bottle and he threw back a mouthful with a cough. Eurgh. Firewhiskey at—he squinted at the clock on the mantle—1:56 am?
“But the trumpet…” A nonexistent breeze wrapped around his shoulders. “Please, Harry, enough with the trumpet…”
Because the thing is… The thing is, he had brought the trumpet the day before. And he’d played for the veil, a stuttering rendition of Tennessee Waltz that leaned flat, and it was all wrong in every single way.
