“Please don’t do this, Yennefer.” She leans back.
“Do what?”
Jaskier swallows hard, bringing one knee up and pressing his forehead to it, his arms wrapped loosely around his leg. His voice, when he finally speaks, is soft, pain clear in his tone.
“Don’t give me hope.” He tells her, swallowing hard after he says it. “I can’t do it again.” He turns his head to look at her from beneath his fringe. “I spent decades hoping, Yennefer. And it got me fuck all besides the dressing down of my life on top of that fucking mountain and a fun little session of torture later.”
(Jaskier hoped that he could have more with Geralt once, and all it had gotten him was abandoned on a mountain. He won’t make the same mistake twice.)

Summary
There’s a steadiness to Geralt that centers Jaskier, a sturdiness and a patience that resonates with Jaskier’s energy like two tuning forks suddenly chiming in sync. He fits with Geralt, in a way that Jaskier has never fit anywhere.
And for all that Geralt may occasionally tell him to shut up or may roll his eyes or may urge Roach farther up the road to get some distance, Jaskier can be himself around the witcher. Jaskier chatters and sings and composes out loud and flirts and jokes, and Geralt takes it all in stride.
He may not always like what Jaskier does, but he never seems to expect Jaskier to be anything other than what he is.
It’s addicting, that sort of acceptance.
With each year, he grows more and more terrified of losing it.

There is one element of his time at Kaer Morhen that remains a problem, however: his room is fucking freezing.
Jaskier sets his teeth and wraps his arms tighter around himself, curling inwards as if that’ll provide him with more warmth. He’s already beneath every layer he’s been able to gather, wrapped into a ball of sheets and blankets and furs. Summary
In Jaskier’s defense, he would argue that he had very good reasons for not realizing he was haunted. Between gigs and side jobs, his days are far from standard working hours, the house is old so who would be alarmed by a few odd noises now and then, and after a lifetime of ADHD, who is he to say that he didn’t leave every single cabinet door open and rearrange his mugs in the cupboard without realizing it?
“The fucking writing in the mirror wasn’t a clue?” Priscilla asks with a dubious eyebrow raised.
(Jaskier has a poltergeist) (This is a problem until it gets his rent reduced) (Then the only problem is stopping the witcher his landlord hired from wrecking the good thing he's got going on)

Summary
Geralt tries to read the man’s face before he looks around for a hidden camera. His youngest brother is supposed to be away this weekend with his boyfriend, but this entire situation reeks of Lambert’s exact sense of humor. Geralt is suddenly quite sure there’s a whipped cream pie to the face waiting at the end of wherever his neighbor is leading him with this conversation.
“You can’t just hit it with a shoe?”
That makes the man inhale sharply and press a hand to his chest, like a church matron clutching her pearls. “The spider is an animal, but I most certainly am not! I am not trying to banish the little beast from the mortal coil. I am simply trying to evict him from the previously-spiderless sanctuary of my home.”
(Jaskier tries to recruit his neighbor Geralt to handle a spider problem) (Ciri ends up taking the lead on the assignment) (this still ends up with more Geraskier than might be expected)
