Oh come on, automatic retroactive filtering of works that weren't sorted into missing top categories is *never going to happen*. The AO3 is going to ask users to mass-convert existing works when it's possible, in 10 years or so, and that's it. They don't care about the problems with the existing use of themeta tag for fic and non-fic and will just ask you to search either including the tag or not.
