It seems like there might be a lot of overlap with Fanlore, I wonder if there's a way to link the meta posts with the Fanlore pages, or suggest people add things in Fanlore, or something.
Overlap in what way? As far as I can see meta is discussed and linked on fanlore like any other fanwork would be, but not hosted. So I don't see why it would need special treatment. If people want their meta essays linked, they can easily do so. It's an open wiki after all.
I may be totally be misunderstanding you though... Sorry. ^^;
Sometimes meta is about an event or specific time and place, and it would be nice to have it on Fanlore. And other meta might be very enlightening to be linked. And there are fanlore user pages that are fine for personal statements.
But people don't think of it because they are focused on AO3, so if we could make some way to say, 'hey, could this be part of fannish history on Fanlore?' that just brings it into their consciousness.
Ah, I see. I suppose there are still quite a few people not even aware of fanlore (and probably also people who aren't interested in a place like it anyway) and I suppose it would make sense for the OTW to do something about it and point their Ao3 users over if they're interested.
I'd feel uncomfortable, though, if I would encounter a message or link on every meta essay, or if meta were seen as more important for "fannish history" than other fanworks, just because it's non-fiction and commentary. (Also it would probably be good if there were a statement addressing the concerns of fanartist voiced in the last two meta discussion posts.)
Maybe there should be something like a fanlore awareness week or something that works in the way the membership drives or the way the survey was promoted? As long as I can dismiss the message after encountering it for the first time, I'd be okay with it.
