the stairs and nightmares seem to imply lanyon is somehow in jekyll's head. like, literally. these nightmares specifically don't belong to him - he didn't /see/ the maggot-dog carcass, for instance, at most just heard about it from jekyll. plus, the stairs. i have a feeling he pushed through the light into jekyll's conscience similarly to how hyde does, except jekyll was asleep, so it just resulted in him entering jekyll's dream. for a minute i did wonder if he was gonna temporarily control jekyll's body there XD
also! before it was revealed that it was moreau dancing with him, i assumed it was hyde! that was incredible. moreau will never cease to haunt him. rip.
shout out to the will wood titles btw. calling it rn that in parallel to this chapter's title, another chapter will be called "I'll stay awake tonight". i really like these two lyrics and how they tie dr sunshine and cotard"s solution together!! i'm having fun imagining that the dreams coming true refers to last chapter's gay dream, in parallel to this chapter with the nightmares. very fun 10/10 we love william woodiam in this household /silly
the reccurring barrier theme hirts 3 /pos
oh, oh! little details i noticed: lanyon's head lolls to his shoulder when they're in the garden, like it did several times last chapter as a result of the haziness of the trip, which confirms (if it wasn't clear enough) that lanyon is definitely Aware and invading jekyll's dream at the ball - he was trapped with the nightmares for hours, presumably when jekyll was awake because he couldn't manifest outside of secluded spaces in the dude's brain while he was conscious. also, he's distracted and distant.
oh god where's lanyon's body at this point :((( worried about my man
oh oh! note! when it points out that jekyll feels temporarily disconnected from his body, i pictured it depicted in the same way i imagined lanyon's disconnection for most of last chapter. it's specific, but: static silhouette that shows the bones in a faint gray and the outlines of main muscles in a light red, maybe with some veins poking through.
big fan of all the motion in the way the fic's narrated btw. the motion sickness is real and it's peak i adore it. i keep taking longer than usual to read these chapters because i can envision them as elaborate animations so clearly <3 the sensory details mixing and mashing and cobtrasting are delicious also
