I've read this oneshot a few times since you published it, I absolutely love how you write both young Abi and 1914 Jack. You've made them both into such brilliant narrators and you have their voices and thoughts down brilliantly. As I said, I've read this a couple of times, but on this re-read, I was actually brought to tears by this (I'm a crybaby in general, but this is just an excellent fic). I've always had the headcanon that Jack was a risky birth considering the circumstances he was born into but contrasting that with Abigail's passing makes for such a heartbreaking bookend and this is just such a beautiful work in general.
Thank you so much! Young Abi and all her heartbreak and struggle are so special to me. That complicated closeness between her and Jack (along with their isolation from the gang) is one of many reasons why they're so interesting to me. Seeing how their early dynamic would influence 1914 Jack was so fun, so I'm glad u enjoyed!
I too am a firm believer that Jack was a difficult birth, along with that I also hc that he was a colicky and somewhat sickly baby, which only makes Jack caring for her after John's passing that much more depressing. They're so tragic to me I could write a whole book just on those years of Jack's infancy. Thank you!! Their story is so beautiful and tragic to me, I'm so glad u enjoyed this exploration of them<3
