Summary
This isn’t his Steve. This isn’t Captain America, and this sure as fuck isn’t the little guy from Brooklyn who was too dumb not to run away from a fight. This isn’t the Winter Soldier either, Hydra’s mindless machine.
Whatever came out of all that, of the man who was all of those at some point in his life—Bucky’s not sure if it’s someone he wants to know.
But it’s Steve.
Steve reaches out, one bear paw of a hand reaching for Bucky’s face. Bucky grits his teeth and forces himself not to flinch. He’s expecting another blow, maybe fingers pushing into his mouth, but what he gets is a finger tracing the cleft in his chin—the spot his Steve used to love to kiss. Bucky shivers at the gentle touch, caught off guard and floundering. He’s only more unsettled when Steve’s hand settles on his cheek, big enough to cradle the entire side of Bucky’s face.
“Pretty boy,” Steve murmurs. “Should I keep you?”

Summary
“I’m compromised, Natasha.”
“He’s terrifying, isn’t he?” she says. “He always was, even as a story whispered to the girls in the Red Room. “I survived him once. And you—you did it twice. Not many people get to say that.”
“Maybe he likes me,” Bucky says. He's smiling, mouth twisted up into a bitter rictus.
Natasha shows more feeling at that than she has since before the fight. She winces.
“I wouldn’t want to be liked by a ghost,” she says very quietly. “It doesn’t tend to end well.”
Bucky doesn’t have the heart to tell her it was never going to, not for him, not since the mask came off.

Summary
“Not bad,” Steve says, eyeing Bucky calculatingly. He wipes his hand across his bloodied lips, smearing red across his jaw. “I’ve seen videos of you with that shield and your gun. But I like this better. You’re good with your fists.”
“Had to be,” Bucky says grimly. “Someone had to fish your fool ass out of back alleys and dumpsters.”
Steve’s eyes darken. He doesn’t like it much when Bucky brings up the past he doesn’t remember. Some things strike harder than others. Their Brooklyn days certainly do. The one time Bucky dared to mention Sarah Rogers, the marks took days to heal.
Steve’s boot presses down firmly, right over where Steve’s name is carved into Bucky’s stomach. Bucky grits his teeth and breathes through his nose, swallowing the pained sounds that want to crawl up his throat. He wishes he could exert half as much control on his slowly hardening dick.
He's got his wires crossed these days. It used to be different. The violence he and Steve engaged in was make-believe, play-acting. This isn’t, but it doesn’t seem to matter, and Bucky’s not sure if it’s some unspeakable perversity or sheer self-preservation.

Summary
“I am the wolf, sweetheart, and they already threw you to me.” The grin vanishes abruptly, and then it’s just Steve, blue eyes intent on Bucky’s. “They won’t kill you. Won’t lock you up. You’re theirs, aren’t you?"
“Bullshit,” he snaps. “It’s not that simple.”
"Of course not. But it’s always easier when there’s a monster to slay and a damsel to save.”
“Ain’t no damsel, pal.”
Steve crawls up the bed, sinuous and eerily graceful. Bucky flattens himself, willingly trapped under Steve’s powerful bulk. When Steve speaks, his body seems to reverberate with the words.
“But I am a monster. And that’s enough, isn’t it?”
Bucky doesn’t have a retort that wouldn’t be a willful lie. He closes his eyes and lies there, lets Steve lick a hot stripe up his neck and bite at his lips until they bleed.
Steve licks the blood off and pulls back with red on his teeth.
“We all love our stories,” Steve says, and he sounds distant now, half-smile quirking his lips as he stares right through Bucky. “Our fantasies. They told me I was a hero too.”
